Theoretically, the effective lens diameter of the periscope camera should be roughly 10.2mm large. Currently, the Magic7 RSR periscope camera holds the record (9.89mm) for the smartphone camera with the largest effective diameter (including main cameras). Many smartphone periscope cameras only have 5-6mm.
The larger the effective lens diameter, the better the maximum theoretical resolution of the lens regarding distant objects due to diffraction. You also capture more light per exposure time from a distant object and bokeh balls are larger.

About new King of Ultra phones, Vivo X200 Ultra.
Source: Digital Chat Station at Weibo site. Today.
The X200 Ultra is built around the industry’s only ultra-large-bottom ultra-wide-angle lens, alongside an equally large main sensor and an impressive 200MP telephoto lens with upgraded light intake. This configuration makes it the first smartphone to achieve a “big three-element full-focal-length and full-bottom solution.” DCS has described this as a “Holy Trinity” setup, covering all focal lengths with large sensors, a feature traditionally reserved for professional cameras.
Adding to its credibility, Vivo has integrated a customized 35mm native focal length for the main sensor, further bridging the gap between smartphones and professional photography equipment. The device also comes equipped with two self-developed imaging chips, alongside a customized set of external professional photography kit, marking a significant leap in smartphone video performance. DCS even claims that the Vivo X200 Ultra could surpass Apple’s video capabilities for the first time in Android history.
Vivo’s commitment to high-end imaging doesn’t stop there. The company recently registered the “V-Single” trademark, hinting that the X200 Ultra’s imaging performance may rival professional cameras. Additionally, leaked reports suggest that the device will feature a dedicated camera control button on the lower right side, designed for intuitive photography and videography.
Based on earlier reports, the camera system will include a 50MP + 50MP + 200MP configuration with customized optics, large sensor sizes, and proprietary chipsets, achieving seamless hardware-software integration. This level of optimization positions the Vivo X200 Ultra as one of the most advanced smartphone cameras ever created.
With its full-frame, all-large-sensor setup, professional-grade 35mm focal length, and cutting-edge imaging chips, the Vivo X200 Ultra is not just another flagship phone—it is a statement. By pioneering a photography-first smartphone design, Vivo is making it clear that mobile devices can compete with, and even outperform, traditional cameras in certain scenarios.

So it seems like the rumor from a few months ago is correct. Three finish options, ceramic (white), fake leather (leica), and glass (black).

I'm amazed to see Xiaomi can still manage to give three-digit effective focal length for the huge telephoto camera. I know 100mm is not as long as 120mm in the 14 Ultra or even 13 Ultra, but not even Vivo can do it! Vivo really needs to step up a gear for the X200 Ultra if they want it to be on par with this Xiaomi phone.

Darth Caesium, 25 Feb 2025Absolutely agreed with the Google processing. The more I... more"you WILL get heavily processed, artificial shots and you WILL like it" - Apple/Google/Samsung.
Now I'm not saying these phones take bad shots but they're all essentially failing at the task of what a photograph is, which is the capturing of a moment. These phones aren't capturing the moments you see, they're capturing the moments that THESE PHONES think you want to see. Feels quite helpless/hopeless, you can't do anything about it. Which is what i used to love about android compared to iPhones, the choice, the freedom.
Hilariously, now Apple provides more choices with their styles. Filters are applied on the image AFTER it's processed, Apple's styles afaik work on the image alongside the processing so the results look far superior. It's just disappointing man, Google and Samsung are washed now.
I just hope Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi somehow make their filters available as styles so that the processing happens after the filters/different color science is applied. But despite that, their photos just have so much soul man. Even then, Oppo has Master mode alongside their vibrant default mode, Vivo has Zeiss Natural, Vivid and Textured modes and Xiaomi has Leica Vibrant and Authentic. The choices are drastically different yet amazing nonetheless so it's not like they dont have any freedom i just wish they were able to "one up" Apple with their own styles and stuff.

jiyen235, 25 Feb 2025i dont mind the 3.2x, it's an excellent lens with exce... moreIf Samsung makes a 1/1.95"-type version of the JN5, and the Xiaomi 16 Ultra uses that for its ultrawide, it would be perfect. Doubly so if they also use a version of that version made specifically for telephotos, pairing it with a periscope lens with a 57.5mm focal length (to replace the telephoto with a 70mm focal length on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra), keeping its f/1.8 aperture and improving its minimum focusing distance to 5cm (like Huawei does). Even better if Xiaomi also used ALoP on their second periscope and gave it a 115mm focal length while keeping the HP9 sensor on it, and reintroduced variable focal apeture on the main camera (10-step instead of the ridiculous 1,024-step one on the 14 Ultra).
I'm sure it's unrealistic due to cost, but they could even go further and use ALoP on both periscopes instead of just on the one with a 115mm focal length. Not only would it give the smaller focal length one better optical clarity, but it would also make it take up less space, which can be used to have more floating lens elements to improve minimum focusing distance.

jiyen235, 25 Feb 2025I know but the Oppo's Find X7 Ultra takes beautiful sh... moreAbsolutely agreed with the Google processing. The more I've used my Google Pixel 7 Pro, the more I've felt its limitations, and the most obvious problem with it (apart from the terrible sensor and lens combo for the 5× telephoto) is that the processing often makes the final picture look too dark — unless you're using Night Sight, in which case the picture is ridiculous bright and looks very artificial.
I can get very good results regardless, but where it doesn't work, it doesn't work well at all. Back when Ultra HDR was first introduced, my phone had huge issues with trees that either had orange leaves (because autumn) or had flowers blooming on them. The problem was that it would apply aggressive amounts of HDR to the picture, and it would clip the highlights and suck the life out of the leaves' colours. It was especially bad if it was cloudy. These days, they've toned it down a bit, but I still can't get the picture I quite want in such an environment no matter what I do, because the processing works against my wishes.
