DarlingYext, 21 Mar 2025That ultrawide is huge and so is the telephoto, but the mai... more35 mm is a far more apt focal length than the measly 23-26mm lenses we were getting. A 1/1.28" sensor is a worthy compromise. Look up ZTE's 1 inch 35mm phone and see if you like the camera bump.
And even then, i don't really see any reason for them to go for such a dramatic shift in just one year. Not only are they going for a 35 mm main lens, but they're also shifting to a 1/1.28" UW cam. If they made the huge jump for everything then i don't think they'd have much for the future.
Also, it could be that we're reaching the peak of the space constraints of phones, Xiaomi's 15 Ultra has a JN5 UW cam, a standard 1/2.51" 3x cam and a 4.1x telephoto cam, all that and they couldnt afford to put in a variable aperture. Oppo doesn't have the largest sensor for the 6x, just a 1/2" one and they ditched the 1/1.56" UW cam. So on every phone you have concessions.

Aierlan, 21 Mar 2025The problem is though after they updated the phone it doesn... moreSo there two downsides, tighter less usable focal and not fully used sensor...
I see that in pro mode focal lenght is wider when I switch to 4.3X than in normal mode, it could be 4.1X, but pro mode takes huuge quality drop, 6400 ISO image in normal mode with 1/32s exposure time(handhold)looks better than 50 ISO image in pro mode with exposure time of 4 seconds(on tripod)!

If Samsung doesn't put a 200 MP sensor on the 5x telephoto camera, it's going to be bye bye Samsung!

I think the problem with the Vivo x200 pro is that 2x cropped zoom with the LYT-818 just isn't very good probably due to 2*2 ocl. Not the x200 ultra is using the same sensor for the ultrawide and relying on a crop from the ultrawide to get 24mm and a 2x crop from the main sensor to get 70mm. If they can't find a way to get better quality with the cropped zoom then the focal lengths which rely on the crops from the LYT-818 sensors may not be very high in quality. It would be difficult to match something like the Oppo find x8 ultra at lower zoom levels as the LYT-900 can achieve a very good 2x crop and the find x8 ultra will also have a top quality 3x periscope with a 1/1.56" sensor and fast aperture. The big focus on the x200 ultra though seems to be video quality. They are claiming a big improvement in video quality so will be interesting to see if that will really be the case. I think the x200 pro already performed not bad for video especially at night with very good control of micro jitters when there are lights in the scene compared to the likes of the Xiaomi 15 ultra which can't handle a lot of bright city lights in the scene. I hope to see continued improvements

At long last a phone manufacturer (after more than a DECADE of hesitation) has decided to put an almost big enough sensor behind its ultrawideangle lens.
Their paucity, scale, small-size and low megapixel count put me off buying any such phone for that entire ten years, simply because these lenses superwide area of view demands the highest possible megapixel count on the very biggest sensor to even begin to equal the quality possible from todays standard wide phones cameras.. I just pray the lens is sharp and has none of the dreadful distortions most are prone to. But will I buy if it cannot be used to do panoramas like only the iPhone can now do? NO!! They must ALL now make available to all purchasers of phones that include Ultrawide lenses, software to enable good panoramas to be made with them.Built-into the camera as is the software for pans on the "main" lens.

As long as Vivo was able to solve the lens flaring issue, I believe this will top smartphone camera of the year especially with a 35mm main lens. Vivo has done wonders with the x200 Pro.

PatDat, 21 Mar 2025I would like more 4.1X instead of 4.3X which is already too... moreThe problem is though after they updated the phone it doesn't allow you to switch anymore to the periscope at 4.1x for photos (at least in the Chinese variant). Therefore you can't even use the periscope at the 4.1x optical zoom level

Larger sensors require larger optics, resulting in bulkier devices. Phone manufacturers must balance user experience. This is where innovation in computational photography and AI can help, not bigger bulges.
Anyway, those bulky, camera-focused phones have become too niche and expensive compared to more established brands offering better support, longevity, deals, and a better overall user experience.
At the end of the day, it's just a phone, the average consumer just wants nice photos of their cat for social media. A real photographer, needing true image and color quality, will use a real professional camera. So, who are these bulky camera-phones for? Wannabe "professional photographers" who somehow think a pointless brick-sized phone replaces an actual proper camera?

Eduard33, 21 Mar 2025Just like you're obsessed with VivoI'm not defending vivo like you're defending oppo. I'm pointing out critics as well. I just posted in the previous post regarding color and criticized their color/design choice.
You were the one defending oppo in another post like it's going to beat vivo's periscope with that set up.

Wow, vivo is not messing around when it comes to cameras. Samsung should take a note or two.
