magnaroader, 09 Apr 2025Quite frankly, I never understood the race to have the late... morein my opinion 10 was peak, when i uses to use 10 god it was stable, fast and good, but yeat i guess 12 is now peak for most, if i could downgrade my phones to 10 i would, but none of them ever shipped with 10

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2025I think that 5 years is long enough and definitely no longe... moreA lot of people tend to keep their "older" phones as backup devices, at least in the East.
And many people, as I have seen, replace their batteries after a certain amount of time. Beats having to go and buy another device for emergencies.
What's better - paying 50 bucks for a battery replacement, or 200-500 bucks for a decent device for backup/travel use?

Quite frankly, I never understood the race to have the latest Android updates, unless you need security patches due to using your phone with banking apps or company credentials.
Android 12 was the peak of Android OS changes, and everything since then has just been small changes here and there.
I continue to use my Android 13 phones/Tablets without any issues, as Android 10 is still supported by Google.
The S20 series is still surprisingly great, and if anyone needs a secondary or cheaper phone, getting them second hand is not a bad idea.

It's not the end. S20 is now called s25 bit with less ram and higher price.

A lot of phone makers these days promise longer and longer software support windows for their flagships at least, which is a welcome trend, but we do have to wonder how long is long enough. We'd love to hear from you - how often do you switch phones? And thus, what number of years is a big enough software support window in your view? Do let us know in the comments.

honestly 2-3 years is more than enoug because no company gives more warranty than 1 year outside of EU and 2 years inside the EU.
Having a 1000-2000 eur phone with only 1-2 years of warranty means comany dont trust their devces and it will have poor resale value when warranty ends.
Bigger warranty gives another mark to a marketing, adds lot more price to anyone who wish to selll it later and every user know they buy froma reliable, stable company which put trust to its devices.

So having 4-5 or even 100 years of updates is meaninggless if you have only year or two for warranty.
Once your warranty goes of and your device dies or breaks by accident or some other coincidence user have to pay very expensive repair.
Dunno like everywhere else but here in Slovakia new screen for S25 Ultra or 15 Ultra by xiaomi is 300 eur plus another 200 fee for replacement work.

Apple 16 pro and Pro max for example is 200 eur for new screen plus 200 fee for work.

At those prices everybody rather buy new deivce with new warranty and maximum updates than invest to fix their old device.

So once again as long as no company provides equal warrany as years of updates the said updates are useless to have more than 2-3 years.

I can definitely understand the flagship from any brand can easily last even 5-10 years without any issues but no manufacturer will guarantee it with its life so having more years of updates without having more years of warranty is completely useless , obsolette and meaningless to have.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2025I think that 5 years is long enough and definitely no longe... moreThe batteries should be easier to replace. For people like me who work with their phone (and don't play), an S10e would be more than enough, but the battery is dead and you have to charge it twice a day. That's why I ended up with an S25. But it's not as ergonomic. Samsung is now offering 8 years' support for the enterprise versions of its flagships, which sounds good to me, given the investment and the environmental impact. I didn't consider the XCover range because the screen and processor are mediocre, there's no inductive charging and you just have to buy a case and screen protector to get the equivalent.

I´m using 5 year old Android One phone (Mi A3) with A11 on it. Still going well, all apps still getting updated by Google Play Store. Don´t understand why people are obsessed with latest updates. The most important is that the last Android update that the phone will receive doesn´t mess it up because there won´t be more updates coming after it to fix it.

Looking at the fastest chipsets and improving battery tech the 10 year support should be native in next 10-15 years.

For many people, a smartphone is basically a computer, or literally their only computer. How long does Microsoft support Windows? A very long time. Do you want Microsoft to just drop Windows support for your PC in 5 years? Imo 10 years should be the minimum, and the normal.
