New Chinese flagships at the end of the year to have at least 7,000 mAh batteries

10 April 2025
Some will even go to 7,500 mAh, while mid-rangers with 8,000 mAh cells will become commonplace.

EskeRahn, 10 Apr 2025Well sort of yes, but you are describing the problem too...... moreyou're essentially complaining about the modern day notification/tech usage system and the easy fix is the ultra battery saving mode, if you're not a heavy user at all it's perfect for you. Just turn it on and have a happy life.

But yeah i agree on the huge difference between modern usage and battery saving mode part. I wish for a day when we get sliders between those two things where we can chose between different levels of battery "optimisations". That way anyone, from a 60 year old grandma to a 15 year old tiktok kid could be happy. More choice for everyone.

But companies wont do that, they just want to suck out more battery so that the battery degrades and then nuke that stuff with updates for that chip/phone model due to them being older. All that just so you upgrade.

v1nce, 10 Apr 2025I'm all to shit on samsung but as long as they have lo... morechinese phones use inferior display tech in general. Samsung saves the best for themselves, Apple and Google and only Asus uses it on the side.

I think even Realme uses it, at least for the GT7 Pro, which is why it's such a battery champ.

Oh and dont forget, Apple, Google and Samsung ALL throttle far harder than others and even lower screen refresh rate from time to time. I use a Samsung and have tried iPhones, you dont REALLY notice it but if you try to, you will see it.

You can't really choose to have a smoother or better experience either, so which would you rather have? companies having all the power and taking stuff away from you when they think it's good for you or you having the power/choice of turning on the power saving mode/lowering the screen refresh rate when you desire? I think that's where the Chinese are superior. Look at gaming or benchmark tests, those 3 brands throttle super hard and use less power. But also give far worse performance.

On a phone you either use more power and generate more heat to get better performance OR sacrifice performance for battery/less power/a cooler experience.

We've reached the peak of smartphone battery optimisation and companies are just choosing to be more aggressive wherever they can be to improve battery life. Go look at iPhone/Samsung battery comparisons, they dim the screen as well faster than others. These companies have easily fooled the masses and even the "enthusiasts" here.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2025Its very important to have good Software. I am using oneplu... morethe oneplus cant keep up with the samsung? yeah right bro keep yapping

The only cases i can think of are :

extreme gaming where the samsung throttles and uses less power but also gives worse performance.

VIdeo recording where oneplus is inferior in efficiency.

Finally, thankyou. We've been stuck on 5000 mAh too long

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2025Well battery size isn't the only important thing. Chip... moreI've been saying that for years but people still choose wasteful hardware and software together with a huge battery.

I'm interested in phones like the Samsung S25 which has a very long battery life despite being only 160gr. That's the direction we should be going.

Gsmarena really should provide an efficiency index. Like hours of screen-on-time per Ah. They already have the data.

Another problem is the software at launch. I noticed that for my Samsung, I got 50% better battery life after updating to a later software version.

we still don't know how many cycles si/c batteries can withstand. i haven't seen this has been adressed and it is an issue because of silicon swelling. there are different strategies to counteract the si expansion but it is still uncertain what number of cycles a si/c battery can run through before hitting 80% mark.

Well battery size isn't the only important thing. Chipset must be efficient. Software must be optimized well. Unnecessary settings must be disabled. If these all are ok then even 4000mah battery will be good.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2025Samsung: 5,000 mAh: 🤡 Samsung: 45W "fast charging": 🤡Next year Samsung needs to move to 6,000maH
According to rumors they've already tested 5,500maH but they're looking forwards to pack more
They better packpre though or else guess what vivo will win

Apple has to test these new battery technology. In 2 years from now they will announce new iPhone with Si/C battery and call it a breakthrough innovation.

EskeRahn, 10 Apr 2025Well sort of yes, but you are describing the problem too...... moreTrue.
Most people commenting here are unaware that Google itself works a huge lot behind the scenes. For example, GPS being permanent on is due to Google Maps' thirst for data about the world's roads and streets.
You remember a youtube video about, how a guy took 99 android phones in a cart, ran it through a street, and minutes later, Google Maps showed the street as having "too much traffic" while it was almost empty?

I don't think many of us know much about this "back end". It could be using a combination of accelerometer (introduced after those motion sensing games), gyroscope, microphone, GPS, telecom signal data, combined with the internet as a channel to gather data about the world, not only about us as users. Maybe these assistants are an excuse to keep mics running forever?
Maybe deep down, they even scan device memory, camera inputs and fingerprint scans (Realme's privacy policy once admitted it does).

I'm afraid, if Whatsapp notifications are taking so much battery, it's easily notable by uninstalling it... But no one gets huge battery life on Android, the best I've seen a 4000 mah Android do is 2.5-3 days, in older times, not even today.

There ARE ways to keep this down, I have a guide on that here https://eskerahn.dk/?p=4681

Save my nostalgia? Only 1 example I gave is from older times, what about iPhones and action cameras then?

As for everything gimped out, the way I use my phone, there's only one thing in the name of backend consumption, Whatsapp. Should I pay so dearly that my week long phone lasts for 1 day at max?

I think it's safe to conclude that with passing times, Android is getting heavier and complicated, and the performance benefits are somewhat negated due to this.
Ask me, I've remained happy on a Snapdragon 410, 2GB device in 2014 and it had Android with everything you need. But today, a low end device is death, simple as that.
Also, I'm an Android user, I never ever had an iPhone..
