Carol-, 10 Apr 2025Yeah, they improved software, now even with 7000mAh battery... moreAnd that's the reason why bigger batteries don't necessarily mean better battery life, if the software and hardware aren't optimized well for that.

I know I'm spamming the comments but
Don't people understand the privilege we are in currently with batteries ???
If your like me watching news on batteries like from channels like" undecided with Matt Ferrell"
So many battery types with big promises that never make it to real products
And we have Si/C battery available in smartphones in the palm of our hands never in human history have battery technology developed this fast EVER
And people are out here complaining not understanding the bigger implications of the future

Bigzlla, 10 Apr 2025expect 300g phones soon. Disgusting world we live in.Think about it your smartphone... It doesn't get any lighter at 100% Vs 5% battery
Because it's holding energy not MASS
7 peacock feathers do not weigh the same as 7 chicken feathers
Look how the number 7 remains the same but the implication of the weight changes.. it's the same for batteries
Bigger battery MAH doesn't mean 300g it DEPENDS on the MATERIALS in the battery that is doing the storage
Give battery technology a chance it's still new so it not close to delivering it's full promise yet.. just give it a little time

Maybe with that, they are finally able to properly beat the 5000 mAh in the S25 Ultra. Cause as is, their larger batteries last only somewhat longer, if that.

A feat of an individual smartphone being efficient and light weight is just pure isolated achievement
Versus bigger batteries getting more attention they are then able to be mass produced at scale which then can be used to increase the battery life of million other product
We get better at the energy density and the weight where we might get 7000mah at 170g
Plus bigger battery size means longer battery life because of better depth of discharge

Energy and mass is not a 1:1 ratio
The chemistry of the battery will determine the thickness and weight
The whole point of si/C batteries is when compared to regular li-ion /li-po batteries they are lighter and slimmer at the same mah number

EskeRahn, 10 Apr 2025..."the easy fix is the ultra battery saving mode"... morehave you even used the ultra battery saving mode? idk how it is on other phones but for whatever you're saying, the samsung ultra battery saving mode is perfectly fine. I use my phone far too often and with different apps to be able to use that mode but since you're not a super power user and stuff, you should be fine with it. It is by no means as silly as switching the phone off.
And yeah, the compromise still isn't enough for people like you. The battery would still die out faster than you'd like. The compromise isn't that bad actually if you actually used one of those modes.
Also, i never said companies are good and arent destroying battery life with updates, i've always preached that. But what exactly is the issue here tho? Chinese flagships are trying to circumvent that by giving us genuinely larger batteries that last longer, which would lead them to being easily caught if they try to nuke batteries with updates. I dont really get the problem here. A solution is being given but you're being doom and gloom and complaining about other stuff like a little crybaby.
I gave a nice solution but you didnt even acknowledge it and i even agreed with your point but you're just crying more for no reason. I dont understand your problem man you guys just want to complain for the sake of complaining.

Sam N8 808 owner, 10 Apr 2025How large? how much high res? I don't use bluetooth.
... moreThere's a lot of things at play here and i dont want to repeat what i've said before so read my previous comments on this thread, uploaded right before this comment. Replies to V1nce and EskeRahn.
Anyways let's start.
You used the Nokia 808 as an example. The Oneplus 13 for example, with a 6.82" screen has a 70% larger screen. The Nokia 808's screen is 360x640 whereas the Oneplus 13's is 1440x3168. 4x more pixels in the width and 4.95x more pixels in the height. OLEDs are NOT as efficient as LEDs, so each pixel being there adds to the power needs SIGNIFICANTLY. Thus just keeping the screen on is a dramatic use of power and in a lot of instances the screen is the main juice sucker. That's why you see tablets running OLEDs with such horrendous battery life. And why are you even forgetting the 120 hz part? These new screens are refreshing at DOUBLE the rate of other older phones. That's a significant consumer of battery as well. You can save like 15-40% of battery just by switching to 60 hz.
To illustrate the refresh rate point further, let's take a look at the iPhone 16 Pro compared to the iPhone 16. In the browsing test the 16 Pro lasts for 13:58h whereas the iPhone 16 lasts for 16:12h, the 16 pro is likely using better display tech as well. 16% better battery life on the iPhone 16.
And about iPhones, look at the iPhone 16e, 4000 mah yet it has inferior browsing times to the iPhone 16, inferior display tech matters a lot as well. So how exactly is a 2.xxx mah iPhone "managing"? I see iPhone kids with portable chargers on their iPhone 13s, you're telling me an iPhone SE user isn't charging it twice to thrice a day? Give me a break, i knew someone two years ago who used an iPhone SE that looked like the iPhone 4S and he charged it at least twice a day. Yeah they're "barely managing".
Additionally, you're talking about action cameras eh? Let's see.... SDR filmography machines whose main purpose is recording SDR videos with an absolutely tiny viewfinder. Hmm. Okay let's see how long a very popular one, the GoPro Hero13 Black lasts, taken from their own website :
"The new Enduro Battery for HERO13 Black is a higher-capacity, 1900mAh battery (compared to the previous 1720mAh) that gives you longer runtimes in all conditions, from hot to freezing. It provides more than 2.5 hours of continuous recording at 1080p30 or over 1.5 hours at 4K30 and 5.3K30. NOTE: Enduro for HERO13 Black is not compatible with older GoPros."
1.5 hours of video recording for 4k 30. On a tiny camera whose only task is SDR video recording. Are you kidding me? THIS is your go-to thing? Modern day phones have such large displays, an ISP in the chip and a chip that's processing multiple different things. Using AI and other algorithms to analyze the scene and process it differently. Phones take multiple shots/multiple exposure shots in both photography and videography and then process them, if an Action cam lasts 1.5 hours with a 1900 mah battery, don't you think it's basically a miracle that phones do all that yet last hours upon hours? They last disproportionately longer. Think about that.
Was just replying to your older comment till here. Gonna tackle the last point later on.
Well, if you're unwilling to gimp everything out with the ultra power saving mode yet you're crying about battery life not being enough with tech, i think you should simply shut up and stop being immature. You can't have everything in life. EVERYTHING has compromises. You either have exceptional performance with good battery life OR exceptional battery life with ok performance, you can't have both. Opportunity cost.
Since you're not even using your phone all that much, your phone isn't even being gimped, at least you won't think it's being gimped, the ultra power saving mode in modern phones is perfect for you. I dont see your issue. You dont need notifs ASAP, you just need whatsapp to have notifications at somewhat relevant times. I was just talking about yk, being locked into only a few apps with low screen refresh rate, that was my issue.
And that's the thing with modern day stuff, you dont really choose anything, the phone tries to choose it for you. The algorithms and all that they're made the companies thinking of how to best trick you and stuff and make you use your phone longer/make you more dependent on your phone/make you switch your phone and stuff. That's why they destroy battery life with updates and stuff.
Additionally, don't forget that modern day apps are far smoother to look at, run/load faster and do more tasks. Like you're just looking at stuff with rose tinted glasses. EVERYTHING was far worse, ran slower and looked worse back in the day. The performance isn't worse nowadays, the performance is the same but the requirements of the newer phones is higher. I dont really get it, what's the point of all that performance if it isn't used? Wouldnt that have been a waste? Would you really like to stay behind in tech/innovation?
Like yeah, Google and stuff make their OS/apps heavier so people get FOMO and all that but you're genuinely a crybaby. You're just not looking at things correctly. What if people said "haha why do we need phones in our pockets, silly things back in our day we used to have a telephone!".
Times may change but the aversion of older people to newer tech will always stay the same.
You further proved my point about nostalgia with your comment about that snapdragon 410 phone. Stuff just wasn't that great back then and the experience was even worse on the older phones, i've used a galaxy alpha and galaxy j7 and then later on s7 edge/s8, so i know what im talking about. Now the disparity between better and worse phones is far higher, companies dont look into the budget market at all basically. BUT, it's still not like using newer budget phones is "death". If you're gonna be glazing the older phones and you're saying newer phones suck, again, just nostalgia.
I've tried a Realme C3 and if you think an iPhone SE is manageable then the Realme C3 is amazing. It's not that bad but the difference between that and a 1500 dollar phone is so huge that you feel far worse while using it but you also have to keep the price difference and the time difference in mind as well. Use your head.
So yea bro keep yapping. You just want validation for stuff. I get it, Google and stuff are all doing shady stuff behind our backs, artificially limiting performance and nuking batteries and all that. But what's the problem with just increasing the battery life to compensate? We're seeing genuine innovation here that's pro-consumer and you're like "wow back in my day we didnt need that".

jiyen235, 10 Apr 2025you're essentially complaining about the modern day no... more..."the easy fix is the ultra battery saving mode"
NO! That is about as silly as suggesting to turn the device off and only turn it on when needed...
I'm talking about compromising between the frequency of updates on one side and battery stamina on the other side.
But SURE the companies want you to wear down your hard-to-replace battery, to lure you into buying new devices.
Back in they day of user replaceable batteries, they had much less interest in killing your battery.
Back then, they 'only' used the method (still in use) of adding stuff via software 'upgrades' to get your functional device seem sluggish, and thus lure you to buying a new device.
In both cases done with a balance to not have you swap brand.

since the batteries are getting bigger, doesn't that mean that phones' thickness will increase and charging time will be a bit longer + won't these huge batteries need better cooling methods like bigger cooler champers?
