AnonD-814624, 22 Apr 2025Just tried it out in two different stores, one in fairly to... moreGood news for me, because with my Vivo X90 Pro+ i mostly shoot with 35mm (1.5x crop, still excellent quality, but i suppose X200 Ultra is much better at 35mm). UW is much better than X90 Pro+ (and i don't care to crop UW to 23mm, i only care 14mm FoV) and zoom also much better. For me it seems it could be a serious upgrade. Will wait for further rebiews.

I would buy this if it had the next year's generation Elite 2 chipset. I think vivo released this a bit too soon. They should have released the greatest phone camera ever with the next gen state of the art chipset. A simultaneous release like that would lend to massive popularity. If they did that, I doubt vivo would be able to keep up with consumer demand.

        Conclusion:
For generating an image with a 35 millimeter equivalent field of view:

Module 1 (native 35mm, f/1.7, 1/1.28" sensor) gathers the maximum amount of light, establishing the 100% baseline.

Module 2 (native 23mm, f/1.8, 1/0.98" sensor), when digitally cropped to a 35mm FoV, gathers approximately 65.8% of the light gathered by Module 1, representing a 34.2% reduction.

Module 3 (native 23mm, f/1.6, 1/1.28" sensor), when digitally cropped to a 35mm FoV, gathers approximately 48.7% of the light gathered by Module 1, representing a 51.3% reduction.

Just tried it out in two different stores, one in fairly tough lighting. Only really focused on the cameras as that's the only real reason to consider this phone

                    Positives
The main camera is excellent as expected. Actually better than I expected
The video quality on the main camera is really top notch for sharpness and lack of noise. I think the video hype they focused on in the presentation has substance (but I couldn't test stabilization so not sure how good that is)
The ultrawide is way better than most for photos

                    Negatives
The cropped zoom from the ultrawide doesn't cut it so if you want to take photos around 24-34 mm they are really not good and can't match some midrange phones. This phone thus is possibly the worst ultra phone for using focal lengths that aren't optical until the 85mm HP9 kicks in. I was hoping they'd find a way to get better digital zoom from the LYT-818 but they haven't

The actual video quality on the ultrawide isn't as good as I expected.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 22 Apr 2025Actually, I don't use Meta apps and ditched most of Go... more"Actually, I don't use Meta apps and ditched most of Google apps, plenty of alternatives exist (yes, you can use those on Chinese phones, too)"

Of course you can, you can use any app on China only devices, as long as it's not a Huawei or certain Honor made devices. All these need is downloading the Gmail app from the App Store that's on the phone, and with the comes the Play Store, after that you are free to go and download anything.

"Anyway, it is not worth spending €1000+ with zero official warranty, zero local support, no trade-in value and potential incompatibilities for a niche, non-global, not even a very innovative phone from a brand that doesn't even offer good software update policies."

It absolutely is worth that much for those who appreciate the real features it has and aren't paranoid for no reason and for those that ARE NOT looking into buying a small phone, like YOU, because this clearly isn't one, thus it's clearly isn't for YOU, but it absolutely is a great phone for OTHER people, because in this world thankfully YOU AREN'T the only that exists, try and accept these facts and maybe talk after that.

Whether you or any Western government believes so is beside the point and, as a matter of fact, just so grossly xenophobic.

I can understand the point about the lack of warranty. Caveat emptor applies.

After a little searching, the bigger worry with China is not phone OS/apps potential spyware, research points to surveillance risks directly within their state-owned network infrastructure itself, border (per iVerify analysis / along with 11+ countries starting banning Huawei and ZTE 5G equipments).

Anyway, it is not worth spending €1000+ with zero official warranty, zero local support, no trade-in value and potential incompatibilities for a niche, non-global, not even a very innovative phone from a brand that doesn't even offer good software update policies.

All of this applies only to imported phones, not those sold in physical stores.

Yeah, and that applies to EVERY PHONE out there, not just imported ones.

I understand your concerns, but there are well known and trusted places to import from and they do have 1 year of warranty, I know that's not the 2 years that is usually given in most places, but things could go wrong right after said 2 years ends, not exactly better.

Importing any device that isn't officially sold in your country or region is ALWAYS a gamble. That it has been working for you doesn't change that.

Phones could come defected. They could develop faults. Updates could mess them up. They could even die before warranty ends and you'd be stuck because no warranty. I imported Mi 11 Lite 5G from China, the motherboard died before the 9th month (the fingerprint sensor stopped working even before that time) and there was nothing I could do about it. Xiaomi service center here even refused to register it for out-of-warranty repair, because it's not sold in my country, Nigeria. They don't have the parts. I went as far as sending it to the UK (I gave it to my brother during one of his travels), it had to be returned same way because cost of replacing the board was very close to the amount I bought it for. It's still here in one of my boxes. Still looks very neat. I bought 5 protective cases (different designs) for that phone. And about same number of tempered glass protectors. Luckily, I was able to sell most of them to 2 guys I met using Mi 11 Lite 4G.

So, yes, importing a phone not sold officially in your country is always a gamble. Things could go wrong, but that doesn't mean that they will. You may not have any problems, but someone else might not be as lucky.

What I meant was that the per-pixel quality of a shot from, let's say, Oppo Find X8 Ultra at its native focal length (23mm) should be better than that of Vivo X200 Ultra (at 35mm).

Of course, at 35mm, there is no question at all that Vivo X200 Ultra would be much superior to Oppo Find X8 Ultra.
