most important is security updates rather than os updates on older phones.
else
now a days if you want latest phone than you have to buy mid to low end phone with least 2 years updates then from 2nd year onwards start looking for a good exchange deal and get a new phone with earlier steps and keep repeating.

You know what I really miss about the old android updates? Fun easter eggs. The new updates have nothing fun in them

Tbh i haven't seen any improvement/benefits from Android updates or patches since years.. all advertised "new features" are useless and half -working mess, while important goodies never arrive (example that DoA direct wifi thing, which was supposed to replace Miracast)..
Also android TVs are stuck on old and outdated software, watches on wear os are stuck with weird and halfway usable os and interface...
Google is just a bad spyware imho, it's slowly getting on my nerves and I'd gladly delete the few stupid and useless Bank apps (i don't need them on the go) that require Google services and get something else for an os..if i could, that is..
That being said I'm also pissed off by Samsung - artificially delaying and delivering invisible or overrated AI/assistant junk , instead of focusing on usage and improving trash stock android experience...

On Samsung galaxy s23ultra I'm still on android 14
But on my old xiaomi poco I'm testing android 16
Samsung seems doesn't care they're customers, can't update for 2 year's, and 2 year's have left of updates. Damn

This is a prejudice the die hard android fans keep up. That’s why no normal person (independent from which phone OS they use) wants anything to do with them.

Jemek, 26 Apr 2025Apple users aren't enthusiasts. Probably don't kn... moreOh but they are enthusiast, they are the most indoctrinated flock ever in existance, so yeah, why would they care about GSMarena? they already have the 'best phones". Why would they care about androids? "this pesky devices that allow user to sideload viruses and dangerous pdfs, and so many wrong stuff according to apple". So yeah, they enthusiastically talk about iphlone 1 to 17.

SShock, 26 Apr 2025Still waiting for stupid OneUI 7 that was released 2 weeks ... moreMost phone manufacturers do this, i presume it has something to do with crashing bugs on the cheap. While a few years back there were beta releases and so on which engaged the user to work for free in finding and announcing bugs, these days all users are beta testers, more or less, and the device reports the issues automatically (well more or less), so my assumption is that not releaseing to all at once, gives them more time for "better software". And apple does this too. As far as i know, they do not release to all at once, at least not these days.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2025This only becomes an issue if some dumdum devs require mini... moreAnd thus, there will be devices that are powerful enough to run, but their Android/Software update is so lacking that they can't install it just because they are running an older version of Android, despite the phone can run it well
You can change software, but you're going to have to unlock bootloader, root, magisk, bypass safetynet, and bunch of other stuff, and that one stubborn banking or important/goverment apps. Or there little to no custom rom devs for your phone (If its bootloader unlockable to begin with)
So the more Android upgrade generations, the better

Is there a difference between 14 and 15?

I updated both my phone (poco f6) and tab(mi pad 5) to latest v15 using custom rom.
Brand should give us user to able to unlock bootloader but google is also slacking on custom rom and root .
It's just increase overall e-waste as these devices will going to lose support of latest app.
(many banking App now require above v11 which consist of so many legacy device due to linux 3 kernel which is not supported on v12)

Android 11 user here. I remember 4 years ago checking the software update section of settings every day/week for new updates. I couldn't be more happier now that it stopped coming. What a pain in the ass it is to have an anticipated update delayed. Better to have no more updates.

My phone is running on Android 14 OneUI 6.1 and is able to calculate "6×6=36" correctly every time so imo it's absolutely fine 🙂 👍 👌
