For everyday use I have my phone "naked"
On travels or when Im out in the dirt, I put on a case for these situations.
A case with a built-in stand for travels
A complete case + shield and rubber plugs for work in the dirt

Yes, until it falls flat on the screen on concreate that has a random small stone there and it shatters your screen (been there, done that - with additional screen protector no less, it broke both the protector and the screen).

The case is the phone's clothing. Using a smartphone without a case is like being naked. No one walks around naked so why to use a phone without a case?

Anyone who sees my phone (xiaomi 12x) talks about how beautiful the curved screen is. And it really is, but my next phone would not be a curved screen phone, because they are bad to handle and you would have a lot of miss touches.
A phone is a utility product. It should have utility over beautifulness.

If i was rich, i would probably not use a case and repair the screen and sell the phone once it cracked.
But no, I'm not and i should protect my 12x for at least 2 3 more years.

I hate cases and screen protectors. However, there's a first: the Tecno Camon 40 pro case looks better than the phone. I kid you not. So I use it. The screen protector came off and I'm not going back to it. I hope the corning gorilla glass 7i will do the trick.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 6 hours agoNever learned economics anyway. Reality is, I don't pa... moreI have no reason to ignore trade-in deals, because no retailer or company offers such deals here. You have the right to choose what you prefer with your phones. Trade-in, in every form of the word, is a marketing approach to reduce a concessionary discount off of a new device by means of exchanging, which in turn, increases e-waste due to their poor handling of the devices sent into exchange. And yes, I never pay in full for new devices, as a discount after few months after launch is typically a bigger amount than what greedy businesses ask for, alongside their terms and conditions of refusing to provide a concessionary discount simultaneously with their later price.

DarlingYext, 4 hours ago"..opening up a food packet, taking a bite out of it, ... moreYou can maintain a phone as good as new for as long as you can, I won't disagree with that. My Nokia 8 is almost 8 years old at this point, and looks like it was bought yesterday. But that's not part of the discussion, as physical condition doesn't correlate to residual value.

If people start doing this because of an ad, then we are truly lost as a people.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that analogy. A food item with a bite taken out of it is something most people wouldn't eat, so the item has lost all the functions it had. On the other hand a smartphone or other electronic gadget, once opened but never used is still as good as new.
