Anyone who sees my phone (xiaomi 12x) talks about how beautiful the curved screen is. And it really is, but my next phone would not be a curved screen phone, because they are bad to handle and you would have a lot of miss touches.

A phone is a utility product. It should have utility over beautifulness.

If i was rich, i would probably not use a case and repair the screen and sell the phone once it cracked.
But no, I'm not and i should protect my 12x for at least 2 3 more years.

Anonymous, 25 Apr 2025Of course they do, beat up old phones are less appealing to... more...And add to that, that they also got a fat profit on repairs when stuff breaks...

I hate cases and screen protectors. However, there's a first: the Tecno Camon 40 pro case looks better than the phone. I kid you not. So I use it. The screen protector came off and I'm not going back to it. I hope the corning gorilla glass 7i will do the trick.

Trade-in, in every form of the word, is a marketing approach to reduce a concessionary discount off of a new device by means of exchanging, which in turn, increases e-waste due to their poor handling of the devices sent into exchange. And yes, I never pay in full for new devices, as a discount after few months after launch is typically a bigger amount than what greedy businesses ask for, alongside their terms and conditions of refusing to provide a concessionary discount simultaneously with their later price.

Never use case or screen protector in any smartphone I used, Note 8. Note 10. iPhone 14, S22, S6, S25. All still in good condition without any scratch.

DarlingYext, 25 Apr 2025"..opening up a food packet, taking a bite out of it, ... moreYou can maintain a phone as good as new for as long as you can, I won't disagree with that. My Nokia 8 is almost 8 years old at this point, and looks like it was bought yesterday. But that's not part of the discussion, as physical condition doesn't correlate to residual value.

Used to be caseless until phone manufacturers put glass backs.

If people start doing this because of an ad, then we are truly lost as a people.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that analogy. A food item with a bite taken out of it is something most people wouldn't eat, so the item has lost all the functions it had. On the other hand a smartphone or other electronic gadget, once opened but never used is still as good as new.

Iphone users protect their investment because they buy their phone with intention to sell it at some point in future. I use my Androids till they stop functioning for whatever reason.

Those can easily slash flagship prices by 50% or more, even with a very old device, just to get those juicy bonuses. My wallet prefers those real savings over your abstract theory, thanks.

The US sometimes sees insane offers, like literal free upgrades from last year's top model (trade-in S24U to S25U) plus goodies thrown in, but this depends on the manufacturer and country. And Apple devices retain more value than brand devices, that's a true fact.

Remember guys, always use a case. Phone makers make such claims all the time but they won't provide any sort of warranty on a broken display. The claims about the phone being drop resistant, are merely for marketing purposes

Surviving just one drop on a wooden floor from waist height is not impressive at all, any budget phone can handle that

Doesn't matter what they advertise until they back it up with a ni questions asked warranty.

I use the cushiest possible rugged cases with my phones will continue doing so.

It gives protection and helps with grip for my large hands. I get cramps and fatigue holding phones without a case.
