LOL if this is a Xperia rip off then the Xperia is a HTC rip off.
After all, the Xperia is made by HTC, and runs WM just like HTC.
The N97 uses Symbian.

don't make life complicated, if you dont like the Nokia N97 then go buy another phone that can satisfy you... Nokia didn't force you to buy their products...

Damn, this phone is just sick... I've been contemplating getting rid of my N95 9GB and getting an N85 but wasn't really finding much reason to change since my N95 is still serving me perfectly well for a year now. I guess I'll just wait it out and get this baby. It has everything I've ever wanted in a phone. The only thing I've been missing is a physical QWERTY keyboard and there it is! I wish it would be out on the market already though... I hate it when they announce phones 6+ months in advance :(
And I don't understand all the people complaining about the phone. It's not another 6 months before it comes out. How the hell can you already judge something by a few pictures and a few lines of text about it. And if you don't like it, go buy something else - there's quite the list on the left. If it's the price then just suck it up and go renew you contract and get a new free phone and shut up.

I love it when Nokia haters and poor people rave and rant about the Nokia N97. They secretly covet for it but they know that they will never have it, but instead chose to lose negative comments as if that will change anything. In fact, they do it so that they feel better about themselves. Awwww poor beings!!!. Get your act together, get a well paying job and maybe one of these days you may afford the Nokia N97. By the way there is always the Omnia or the X1 or the Lg's to consider. Leave us alone to appreciate one of the most powerful phones ever made.

i think nokia is finally stepping in the Pocket PC market. Windows based mobiles have dominated the pocket pc world. Lets see what nokia gives us, although the operating software is not wm6. I am sure it would turn out to be better than the iphone 3g. plus its got, tv out, 5 mega pixel camera, a 3.5 inch display with 16 million colors, the usual gps with nokia 3.0 (the one with 3d buildings) radio, wifi
The videos upload on various sites have so far shown that the touch interface is finger friendly. Plus nokia has got about 6 months to launch the device and i am sure with the cons discovered on the 5800 xpress music, those would be covered.

Personal i think they should develop the E series with a fluid touch screen that would really get things going . if you look at the E71 and imagine it without the keys and a bit of more styling to it i think it would be an excellent piece.

How could people possibly be comparing the N97 to the Xperia? The mere fact that the N97 runs on S60 makes this Nokia 100x more attractive to most people out there. WinMo is a complete failure, as is the Xperia.
Also, expected pricing is different, camera is different, and design is completely different.
The only thing I can see in common is the QWERTY keyboard, which IMO looks better on the N97 still.

Nokia purchased Trolltech, an embedded Linux company, earlier in 2008 and Trolltech/Nokia have consolidated the Trolltech brands into a singular brand labeled Qt. Qt Extended 4.4 was recently released and shows how far Nokia has come with Linux. Using something like Qt in a high end Nokia phone does not appear to be far off and we may see Nokia competing with the Google Android OS in the near future.

How the hell are some of your retards gonna say that is a xperia rip off. Just because the keyboard slides open. 1st of all it blows the heck out the xperia and any HTC phone. 2nd symbian is alot more stable than WM.

rip off? yes but its packed with bunch of sweet hardwares. full keyboard + accelerometer + tv out + standard 3.5mm + 5mp camera (though SE's camera have proven to be better) + sweet 32gb with micro sd. damn, its just just putting all the other phones together. all this time having a hard time picking since phones out there they have a lot, just always seem to be missing something. if only it can be running winmo, got too used to it.
