It's not a Big Deal . I have already commented at time of Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch that Samsung Should hire Aston Martin, BMW, Swatch personnel for deign creation.

This is a smart hire, as the person is very familiar with the consumers of the watch world. Tag Heuer is also not the most luxurious brand, but at the same time have a reputation for build quality and accuracy, which suits Apple.

Apple has experience with the electronics and UI side which, but not much on the Watch side, so they hire someone experienced.
I don't know, but sounds like a smart move to me. Just FYI, in 1999 Apple hired Drexler to the Apple Board of Directors, he was the CEO of Gap clothing, and Ron Johnson from Target in 2000.
They then launched the Apple Store in 2001. The rest is history.

It's so funny how all of you guys comment as if you guys are all experts of the universe and have launched world changing devices or inventions. Some even try to be world economist and project the losses even before a device is launched that's great projection.
Try and understand this is fairly new segment all together. Give these guys time.
Also when you comment, please comment with some respect, whether it is Apple or Samsung or Sony or any other loved brand because there are lots of aspirational people like you and me who work really hard day and night work on shifts and create these awesome devices, just to try and change our world and help us do our things in the best possible manner. And they are all human minds so nobody can be perfect. But there is always somebody, somewhere, sometime will make something better than what already exist that's evolution. And we should respect each and every phase of it.
After all once upon a time we were all monkeys... and we have evolved to what we are today and we are still evolving hopefully for something better if all goes well. Thats way too much gyaan(education/information).
And this act by Apple just goes to prove the even the Best in the market needs assistance. An there shouldn't be any ego in asking for it. And its a good gesture by them.
Now lets see how you revolutionise the watch industry...haha! Best of Luck. Cheers!... :)

Apple only thinks about the elite class of society, rest of the people are crowd for Apple, more than 70% of people can't even wish for an iPhone their products are so heavily priced.

Same applies to watches. And that will remain in a domain of a 100% mechanical watches. Partially in a domain of highly exclusive quartz movement watches like Seiko SpringDrive. Everything else are just everyday gadgets.
When smartwatches will be a standalone gadget, then they will make some sense, but for as long as they are just an extension of a smartphone, i feel like they are totally pointless. Wear a smartphone in your pocket and give you wrist a proper quality watch it deserves.
