How do you counter the millions or billions of dollars other companies spend to market their competing products? How do you develop your brand? How do you decide which markets and segments to compete in? How do you develop your pricing strategy?

Why do companies with the best products like Tag Hauer, Rolex or Omega need marketing departments then?

Just admit it. Most of the butthurt going on around here is just because this is an Apple story. Companies hire away people at these levels all the time. You guys should stick to reading spec sheets and online recipes on how to root your phones and leave the conversations about business strategy to other people.

People rather buy 200$ Casio G-Shock then a LG/Samsung/Moto smartwatch!

    1. Battery life.. Watches have to have batteries that last for years.
    2. Style
    3. Size - for ladies or men..

If iWatch manage to solve it, it might change current watch makers' world. And the rest of the smartwatch will follow.. as they would copy like they always.

Maybe if they can make a shock proof, temperature proof watch water resistant to 200 meters and with 10 year battery life. As for luxury watch brands, there's still a waiting list for Patek Philippe, so don't worry.

Eventually CASIO, SEIKO, CITIZEN, SWATCH will close shop they don't adopt Android!

Their watch business will be taken over by Apple, Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC.......

No dummy no suggestion/leaks how it looks. I guess its develop and made in USA.

Its gonna be awesome when it release, and change how we look at watch forever..

It might forced all watch makers to take sides with androids... like Casio .. and even Omega.

Seems like Tim Cook repeatedly makes the same mistakes over & over again!

are they trying to compare an iwatch to the likes of luxury watch maker tag heuer? i just bought a tag and i would never cross-shop with an electronic watch that depreciates after 6 month. Tags, like all mechanical hand made time pieces made with craftmanship, only appreciate over time.

These watches doesnt compete against, they both have their own markets, moto 360 for android users, iWatch for iOS users, both have potential, but i think iWatch have a lot bigger potential and it also going to outsold moto 360 very easily.

How is hiring the TAG sales manager going to impove design? He sells things, he puts a spin story to convince you why you should buy something .... Sales managers do NOT design.

So I have no idea why you think this will better the iWatch design.

Few people would pay that much for a smartwatch, since they dont age well.
A smartwatch is a client, so the main device needs to keep support for the old hardware. That will not keep on for that many years.
And to be able to do as much as possible, it need a central processing unit, and powerbackup to keep it going. Todays smartwatch cpus are way to underpowered to offer any kind of futureproofing.

Sure there are people who buy premium mobiles, like tag heuer, but they are far to few for apple to target. Apple dont do luxury device, and doesnt have the market for them.

And the gear and pebble are not that bad, combine them with a suite and they will look pretty high class. They wont stand out as jewelry like some premium watches, but they are good enough. And if you are in a situation where those look too cheap, well, then you are in a situatuion where you would not use a smartwatch at all, and would looking at your cellphone would not be suitable either.
