Anonymous, 28 Jul 2014Android icons are boring and dull.Icons are icons and elegant. How exciting do you want?? On the other hands, tiles are just too overwhelming making the screen messy looking.

Bring the price of xiomi devices to the level of 1520 and see how many devices they sell. price does matter here. xiomi cost 14k INR while the 1020 cost 42k and the 1520 cost 40k INR. not every country in the world offers contract at $99 or $299. people have to pay $700 to $900 for their phone. microsoft strongest market like India have no subsidized phone. reason why samsung S4, s5 and iphone don't sell well in India as the Galaxy grand, lumia 520 or moto G. moto g and moto E sold around 1 million devices in india which is quite strong considering that it is not sold in retail shops

Have you used WP 8.1? most apps have transparent tiles theses days. and you can set a background wallpaper for for the home screen. i have 3 Windows desktop PC in my office. i think i know the pros and cons of windows 8 desktop. Remember ubuntu Unity? how people hated it. users don't like change ...... the truth is unity kills multitasking like Win8 desktop. Those who don't like WP 8 shouldn't buy it. I dont think windows 7 is the way to the future. imagine year 2027 MS releases an OS which looks and feels like Win7 with slightly better themes running a touch screen device. wow that would be finger friendly! BIG ULGY tiles save u trouble of having to be accurately when tapping the screen. or you prefer 10x10 pixel icons. BTW people hated windows 7 and they hated windows xp too. every new version of windows has drawn flak from its users. some OS have truly failed like Win ME and Win Vista.

"80% smartphones sold are under $200&q... moreS5 and LG G3 are android devices. why wont they sell? install WP 8.1 and sell them and see how many devices they sell LOL. High end segment for MS has been poor. it difficult to justify the prices since Samsung crap undercuts Nokia's pricing. same boring s crap design over and over again! Microsoft is trying to capture the low end market. if they dont have a customer base how will they coax developers to develop for WP. Apps have been a problem for MS. another problem is Microsoft doesn't have phones under 7k INR price range. lot of phones sold are in that price range. Moto E and Asus Zenphone (4inch) are sold under 7k. They dumped the x series and asha so they can get some lower end wp devices. 630 is a crap phone i would never buy it when i can get a 720 for slightly higher price. quad core don't matter to me if there is no ram left for system to play with

"80% smartphones sold are under $200" are not working well for Microsoft / Nokia either! Their market share are still under 4%! It shows that doing warehouse sales is NOT going to work at all man! Make high end phones. Make better flag ships and people will get them. Not like a 930 with last year snapdragon 800 without even a SD card slot. People will rather get a S5 or LG G3 for now! Stop making those low end budgeted devices like 630 which don't even comes with a FFC, Microsoft!

Specs or not, like you said, people will just flock at it. Especially when it is coming out with a bigger screen now. And that said, due to its smaller screen, iPhone sales are currently dipping because consumers LIKE specs. Android are having so much more variety with specs and bigger screens. And for that, Specs DO MATTER. Windows Phones? The OS are just so alien to the consumers! Chess looking messy tiles? No thanks!

Oh BTW, those chinese oems who are using tiles? They don't sell well at all. You see XiaoMi selling phones like hot cakes? Those are non-tile UI phones. That means, tiles are just not what people wants. All the check boxes UI concept are just not what they want.

Is because tiles are not what people wants on PHONE either! All the squares blocks are not beautiful to them at all. And with such big squares, they find them messy and look like a chess board. BTW, those bloatware are not Google or Android fault. Is the work of the OEMs. They are selling their brands and services, of course they need to have some kind of their developed apps to stand out from the crowds. Do you think OEMs will like Windows Phone where almost every model is looking the same with tiles? How can their phones stand out from other??? Also, consumers will know a particular Android phone model when they see TouchWiz, HTC Sense or Sony UI. That's what makes Android interesting, not the boring flipping tiles which are looking almost the same from every device out of the box.

My mid-range Lumia 625 is looking sleek and expensive right about now lol. Excellent update with the WP 8.1 + Lumia Cyan combo. Love the wider options for customization and the drop-down notifications which I admittedly missed when I switched from LG Optimus L7. Thank you, Windows!
