Andrew Tan, 20 Jun 2009Thanks for the information, but I hardly seen others brand ... moreWell,

the build quality of that china phone were not really good, but for some low income ppl, this phone is a dream come true.

I'm a middle-upper class. I have 3 phone number and 3 hand phone. my dad have 4 number 4 hand phone. my mom got 2 number 2 phone, my wife 2 number 2 phone. cousin/aunt/uncle/friend... most of them have at least 2 number 2 phone. some have as much as 5 phone.

    BUT....
I have 3 domestic helper (it is very common in Indonesia to have a domestic helper), 1 driver. the driver have 2 number 1 phone. He exchange his card if he want to phone to his friend/family. My domestic helper each have more than 1 number, but only 1 phone. 2 of them using those china phone, and she's very happy with it. The other domestic helper (that were using Huawei brand, 1 card only though...) were intend to sell her phone and change to that 2 card or 3 card china phone in the future.

So, these china made 2 or 3 card 2 or 3 on at the same time having their own market.

      I forget to add this.

mms is very popular here. I'm using a prepaid and got free 1000 mms each month as long as my card were in active period.

so, The inability that a good iphone to send mms is making iphone brand becoming a bad brand.

Andrew Tan, 20 Jun 2009I do travel to Indonesia. As what I seen, Indonesia only se... moreHi there,

lg, samsung & se were also quite popular in indonesia. Nokia just have around 40-45 percent market share. Never reach 50 percent.

the unknown brand in indonesia is a rebrand chinese phone. This factory here basically just bought the phone from china in bulk and do the packaging here. These lots of unknown brand is now accounting 15percent market share due to a very low price and dual sim card dual on or triple sim card triple on. A dual gsm/gsm or gsm/cdma were sold as low as 70usd. A triple card/ triple on that have dvb tv were sold around 200usd. If you wanna a winmo dual card it cost you around 300usd. It's all a rebranded chinese phone.

and i'm not saying that iphone is not popular because it's touch phone. It's unpopular bcos it need us to be post paid user, and the monthly fee were too high for average user, and it will lock us to single provider.

fyi, 40percent of nokia comunicator were sold in indonesia, so indonesia do have lots of user that were willing to shell out lots of money for good product, but telkomsel only manage to sell less than 1000 iphone in 1 month....... Go figure

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2009Hi all, I'm the dude that still waiting for any klingon ... moreI do travel to Indonesia. As what I seen, Indonesia only sell (90%) Nokia, you hardly seen any brand (Example SE, Samsung, LG) selling at Indonesia. (Do have some unknown brand to me - I assume is local Indonesian phone)

Others phone already can't sell / get in Indonesia, don't mention about iPhone then.

iPhone is not as what you said that difficult to use. It is not a brilliant phone, but it not that bad. Beside iPhone, more and more people go for touch phone. You travel a lot to Malaysia and Singapore and I believe you do seen surrounding you is having a touch phone now.

Anyway I am from Malaysia. Malaysia iPhone also can't sell due to few reason below:
              - Malaysia the only operator "Maxis" that bring in the iPhone but in wrong timing, they just bring in iPhone 3G last two months.
              - The 2 years contract by Maxis is over price, We still need to paid RM 1K(euro $200) to RM 2K(euro $400) after subscribe to the over price contract which cost monthly payment of RM 300+ (euro $60) but no unlimited data access (internet).

With above contract, how many people will go and take iPhone? Some more average monthly use in our country is around RM 100 (euro $20) to RM 200(euro $40).

                Hi all,

I'm the dude that still waiting for any klingon language support on any phone.

I'm really surprise to see that this thread can go a mile longs. This iphone vs. nokia vs. bluebery is becoming a religus war. :(

                Anyway.
I'm a nokia user located in Indonesia.
I want to share my opinion and etc with you all.
                1. Why nokia winning a battle in anywhere else (not usa). The market in anywhere else is different than in USA. In my country there were a 11 celular provider, and lots of user have MORE than 1 handphone. because on-net (that using the same cellular provider) call are cheap as dirt but off-net call is very expensive. And the inablilty for iphone to change sim card daunting the success of iphone in Indonesia. Here, no one really care about iphone. The sale of iphone is very bad that telkomsel (the only provider that sold iphone) is very shy to speak about it.
                2. In asian country, SMS were very popular. There were a lot of pre-paid card (98% of Indonesian use pre-paid card because they don't like to be tie with a single provider) that gives lots of FREE SMS every day/month. And SMS is dirt cheap. And teenager here is texting their SMS while not looking at the phone screen. Therefore, no body care about iphone. Because iphone touch screen phone is troublesome to use.
                3. A ARPU (average use per user) in Indonesia is between US$ 1 - US$ 5. With iphone pricing model (US$199 but must subscribe to the post-paid) we ended up paying US$ 30-US$80 /month. So, no one really care about iphone here.
                4. Most of the middle class in Indonesia do travel to singapore, malaysia, and other place quite a lot. With iphone, you must use the roaming, which is not an option for middle class. Therefore, middle class don't care about iphone too.

                So,
That's why iphone is not a big success in Indonesia like in USA.
And there were lots of Europian that have a country side by side with another country and must travel to other country. that's why iphone is not a good seller.

                  [deleted post]You posed this question:-

"So what problem exactly does a touchscreen UI supposed to solve? Nothing."

Nothing except over 40 International keyboards on the one device, including Arabic, Russian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Greek, Hebrew, Thai and a lot more, which can be flicked between in less than a second.

That list that was made in 2007 is now very outdated.

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2009"How many people needs Dual Sim?- People who trave abroad."... more"What the point having it if the touch is so great.- Not great enough for long and lots of email" Long emails? Dude, I didn't buy the iphone to replace my laptop. Lengthy emails is a pain on any smartphone. Use your laptop.

What's the point of your emailing on your laptop if you don't have any internet connection around? Do you carry your laptop everywhere, e.g. shopping, family gathering, etc... Cos I hardly see anyone around that does that. A phone is a much lighter/faster/longer lasting (boot time of laptop and battery) alternative.

"Who needs stylus? Designers and architects for drawings". Dude, designers and architects do not use their smartphone to create their work or designs. They use real computers, or at least a laptop for pete's sake. Plus a hardware keyboard is faster, and more efficient than software ones, crucial to certain individuals.

Well it's a great alternative or much more efficient than keyboard, many people who wish to write characters, e.g. alphanumeric, asian characters, etc.

Lack of multitasking, or the minimal multitasking that's available is a huge disadvantage.

Not saying iPhone is bad or anything, yes it shines above various phones in certain aspects but falls short in others, however, it's not the world's best phone as you argue it to be.

"No Removable battery - Ya, is better having it for easy replacement" On ANY phone, you need to go to the store to buy its battery, right? So with the iphone, you go to the Apple Store, buy the battery, and then they replace it for you. That is more convenient if you ask me.

Judging by your argument, seems like you don't listen to reason.

The replacement battery idea is such a convenience compared to apple's non-replaceable battery...what are you talking about they don't replace it in store, they get sent away and returned to you for a hefty price leaving you with no phone

USB charging is an excellent idea. You can charge it using your laptop whilst you are in a flight (of course not using the actual phone)

                          next time argue with facts

What I do is, I remove my AT&T sim and put in the other sim from the country I went to. It's no hassle. Also prevents from accidentally using my AT&T sim which will cost me a lot if ever.

"What the point having it if the touch is so great.- Not great enough for long and lots of email" Long emails? Dude, I didn't buy the iphone to replace my laptop. Lengthy emails is a pain on any smartphone. Use your laptop.

"No standard mini usb charger - What the point must be? charge anywgere with any charger... when you travel you will know". Dude, when we travel, we bring our charger with us, so why would i need a standard USB charger. A lot of phones also come with propriety chargers, so please.

If you think that those missing lame features does not make the iphone the greatest phone, then name me a phone that has all of those features + all the features on the iphone.

Is it brainless to be able to now record videos on top of what great benefits you are already getting on the iphone? Is it brainless to upgrade to a faster phone and web browser? Is it brainless to be able to have maps w/ a compass so you would know your direction right away? It is not. It's only a matter whether you can afford the upgrade or not. Not to mention the 3GS has a smudge and fingerprint resistant screen. So yes, I would benefit a lot if I upgrade to the 3GS and there is nothing brainless about it.
