Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra fails new drop tests

Last week a series of drop tests surfaced and saw the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra survive even after repeated drops onto concrete from a height of approximately 5 feet 8 inches (about 172 cm).

Today we have a new series of drop tests onto concrete, and these are performed with robotic contraptions, not human hands like the previous tests. These new tests all drop the device from exactly 6 feet (182 cm).

The spoiler was in the title: the phone failed these tests. When dropped front-down, the glass on top of the screen shattered, and the display stopped working completely, rendering the handset unusable.

When dropped on its side, the titanium frame took some dents and scratches but was otherwise intact, and the buttons remained fully functional. Finally, when dropped on its rear, the back glass shattered, but the phone remained functional afterwards.

Corning claims the Gorilla Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra will survive drops from up to 2.2 m (7 feet 2 inches), and it tested this with a "concrete-like" surface, whatever that means. We think all of these tests are slightly different, hence why the results differ. Your Galaxy S25 Ultra will probably be fine when dropped from lower heights, but if you know you're prone to dropping it from up high, then it's probably best to use a good protective case.
