from my last post, I sound so happy and satisfied with the 3110c that I bought for my brother.. just this afternoon he approached me and told me that the phone started to restart over and over again! :( and I thought that the restarting problem wouldn't happen to it since it's been working great for 2 days already, well until today it wasn't! :(
i inserted a Toshiba 1gb MicroSD card to it and it didn't have any problems since the first day i inserted the card in it.. i asked my brother what files he received today that might have triggered the restarting problem.. he said that our younger brother sent him gif images last night and that's all.. but the restarting problem occured right after that, it occured this afternoon..
i've read through the comments here and i have summarized the probable causes for this annoying problem.. i'm hoping that by correcting one of them might solve my problem! i hate my brother being dissapointed coz' i gave him this new phone as a gift for his achievement on his 2nd quarter grades..
probable causes:
1. long filenames on the music and videos
2. too many levels of folders created
3. animated gif images
4. mp3 files saved on folders instead on the root directory
5. low quality MicroSD cards (kingston, pqi, transcend)
I bought another 512mb SanDisk MicroSD this evening and was hoping that buying a higher quality memory card will solve the problem, as Johan has suggested. So with the above mentioned "probable" causes, I will try to correct everything using the 1gb Toshiba MicroSD card first. if everything fails with the toshiba card, i will try the new SanDisk memory card with the same correction on my file storage.
The unit has the new 5.50 version by the way.. so the restarting shouldn't be evident! but why am I cursed with such problem??? hehe..
Please help me out guys.. can you please help me find the right solution to solve this problem? I really am in desperate need of help coz' I don't want to make my brother feel bad after enjoying 2days with his new phone filled with loads of music.. i can't fix his phone yet because he's sleeping over in his friends house..
HELP!!!!!!!!! :) hehe..

@mjm,
i am on stealth mode right now. hehehe. i am currently experimenting on the phone. hehehe. just two days ago, i experienced the restarting problem. this is what happened: i am playing my mp3 and accessed my memory card and deleted a corrupted mp3 file and then boom. it restarted over and over. i turned off the phone and removed the memory card and it worked fine. i tried to insert my memory card again and it restarted again. the first thing that went into my mind is to check for the latest firmware to solve my problem. posts here says that there is already v 5.5. i have 5.01 in my phone. unfortunately, i can't install the nokia pc suite in my computer because i am running on linux full time. what i did was to "cool down" the phone remove the memory card and battery for some time then bring it back again. i turned it on, restarted for three times again after stabilizing, reformat the card in the phone. what i did next is to upload mp3 files to my phone. file transfer became slower and i already suspected that "we got a problem." i went back to nokia mode and update the music library and boom. restart again. i went back to first step i made. now i tried to switch to another
theme, upload the files again and now it is RUNNING
OK again. i also just discovered, this is using linux by the way, that it prompted me saying "no enough memory" during uploading of files to the computer. i have 183 songs to my phone, it ate 750 mb of my 1 gb card. i guess this is the limit for the phone to also update the music library.

I’m quite familiar to Nokia as an established well-known brand in the world. All Nokia phones are really tough, reliable and less trouble in their products but this is the first time (for Nokia) I met such rare thing like Nokia 3110c that is really disappointed me. It’s odd when Nokia just missed something on the phone software that what I can say is incompatibility issues. FYI Nokia 3110 is powered with S40 third edition. Other similar specification models like 2630, 6085, 6151 or etc are equip the same o/s too. But S40 just growth to 5th Edition recently which is more complexity and has major improvement than currently 3rd edition or it’s fairly designed closely to senior S60. This new S40 has been released for mid-range to Hi-End phone such as 6500 classics /slide and 7500 Prism.
Is it true Nokia 3110c has problems?
I guess it’s true that Nokia 3110c with firmware v5.01 is not compatible with microSD. For all of you that’ve already owned Nokia 3110c with version 4.91 shouldn’t face any restarting problem as what I conclude from your reports /opinions. The proof is my friend just bought the phone ‘Made in Hungary’ and the firmware V4.91 is never experienced on restarting problems. He can change the phone theme or update music library after downloading mp3 to microSD smoothly (have tried Kingston / Sandisk) without restarting nor hanging or something annoying like mine 3110c v5.01. Once you had faced restarting problem, there’s no other choice except remove the microSD or your phone will be automatically shutting down (after 3 times restarting) for over and over.
What do I do to fixing these problems?
Yes, the solution is updating the firmware. I tried updating the firmware by using programs Nokia Software Updaters (download at www.nokia-asia.com) which is from v5.01 (Date 21-5-07) goes to v5.50 (Date 14-8-07). It’s recommended to remove the microSD outside to prevent any program miscalculation while on flashing the firmware. Pls note that this update operation are similar like updating BIOS in PC motherboard so if there is any mistakes like battery low, disconnecting cables or electricity blackout during the process, then you’ve got serious troubles as your phone become useless and blank forever until your phone will be repaired by an expert only. The 3 step process tooks about 6-8 minutes updating the phone after downloading 23MB data firmware from Nokia server. (You should have high speed / broadband connection) Once it’s done flashing, the phone will restart and then operate like usual. You can check again your phone firmware by type *#0000# and you will see v5.50 now. I recommend you to restore factory setting after successfully updating because it will back to default setting for a new version firmware (updating does not override your old setting profile). Just for pre-caution as v5.01 with v5.50 is a little bit differ although you’ll never be noticed about a small bit changes, but believe me it’s different one – I mean the codes changed (hey.. I’m a programmer too but still learning on Visual Basic for Java Micro Edition).
Is it works??
Well... Nokia does make changes on v5.50 as it seems okay to me. I put my 1 GB Kingston microSD onto the phone, swicth on and then download the MP3 via USB cable to PC using Nokia PC Suite. Make sure to place all mp3 files in 1 folder only named ‘Music files’ (same as in memory phone folder) I update the music library and its scan smoothly until it’s done about 8 seconds for 55 track list. It’s not restarting anymore but you should be aware that the restarting problems might happen again (not really sure) if you’ve delete any song in the gallery which is could be side effect to a current track list in music library. I suggest too updating the music library once you had removing or adding music files to memory card to assure the music player operated in a proper way. I can switch or change the theme also between marble, nokia_ori or zodiac with no problem. I can say it doesn’t crazy like before, not restarting or shutting down suddenly and much better I think. The most important is, please and please don’t install unknown theme (.nth) unless it’s originally from Nokia. Any wrong or bad theme, sis (3110 not support this format) or jar files that does not recognized by the phone itself has high possibility to mess up the whole system whatsoever sophisticated o/s it has whether S40 or S60. Keep your phone clean, and you’ve stay out the troubles!

@ terber
samsung e250 and nokia 3110 is not comparable.
e250 has no INFRARED, HSCSD, MEGA PIXEL CAMERA.
moreover Johan is right.
Nokia 3110 has a mini USb2 support.
Which gr8!
If u r interested in features u must concentrate in 3110.
e250 is a featureless phone.
It has only 65K COLOur, which is back dated.
although it restarts cpontinuously when updating media library, I will advise u get Nokia 3110 classic.
NOKIA 3110 CLASSIC is better than SAMSUNG E250 when considering features. NO DOUBT!
U should choose NOKIA 3110 Classic.

just bought one 2 days ago for my younger brother.. it's a great low-end phone!!! The price is just right.. it's packed with very useful specs.. it's waaaaaaay better than N5300! 5300 costs more than 3110c, but 3110c is way more superior! it doesn't come with a memory card, so I bought a 1gb microsd for it.. it works fine! (",) if you want a good phone that's affordable at the same time, get this one! :)

Hi there, I’m just reading your opinions about Nokia 3110c since i purchased this model recently (early Nov 07) – and of course I got restarting problem too so I came to this forum for ideas /solution. FYI, I’m a computer seller /technician (working / lived in Malaysia) but sometime I’m working at handphone shop as a part time business (communication dept). I’ve been using Nokia handphone for about 7 years ago which is I already had 12 Nokia models instead others models like Sony Ericsson and O2 pda phone. I’m still has Nokia 3100 (S40 1st Ed) and 7610- symbian S60 Release 7.0. Its still works well, just for collection and for emergency use.

Nokia 3110 versus SE W200i?
I also has Sony Ericsson W200i (walkman series) so I will compared this model with Nokia 3110 where is both are MP3 Player at low-end price in the market. Comparison chart at Jbencmark between Nokia 3110 and SE W200i, Nokia are outclassing the rival which it’s equiped with ARM9 237 MHz processor while W200i only has ARM9 109Mhz. You will see, Nokia 3110 scored much point than other rivals on its class. But don’t underestimate W200i as this sony ericsson newborn baby got powerful MP3 Player (walkman player 1.0) with clear and loudspeaker. 3110 loudspeaker is not produce a good sound as W200i which is sounds has clarity, crisp and clear sound even at full volume. The important things is internal memory of W200i is great about 27Mb compared with 3110 at only 8.5Mb. The camera just VGA resolution (640x480) but it’s great in outdoor / indoor scene, fast response and save image in a second. Menu options are really good, fast response like 3110. I like SE200i FM Radio with RDS and tuner receiver is not bad at all – it’s good than 3110. Other things I don’t like with W200i, its lack of bluetooth but we can share file by using InfraRed only which is should be operate side by side. The batteries lasted only 3 days at normal use or only 1 ½ - 2 days if playing mp3 walkman for 3 hours per day.
Which one better, Nokia 3110 or SE W200i?
I use 3 different phone numbers so I always carry 2 handphone; it’s my lovely O2 Stealth (for business) and either one of 2 cheap devices - Nokia 3110 or SE W200i (for family/friend conversation). I will choose SE W200i as it’s got better earpiece /microphone, MP3 Player with bombastic BassReflex earphones, FM Radio and also reading headlines (RSS feeder). However 3110 has winning on its longlasting batteries up to 3-4 days at normal use (the cons is charging time up to 3 hours) I like this phone too but I keep it low profile...
P/s: I posted this message for this time only. I’m too busy for internet chatting/ forum except for business only.

AOA.am Imran from Pakistan.me and my friend bought 3110 with a difference
of some days from the same distributer.ie. UNITED MOBILE.we compared both
mobile and we were surprized that there was a huge difference in image
quality.A visible difference b/w a same picture or video.mine is not
showing the true color and yellowish and too much brightness that makes
image or video some what like a VGA cam phone result.so if you are buying
this fone, you are not sure if you are paying for the right one... am
now thinking to sell it...

Hey, well between samsung e250 n nokia 3110c,even thou both the phone have almost the same config. I prefer nokia over samsung, and this samsung phone got an extremely ugly menu with huge fonts,in sub menus, its pathetic, and the phone is 2times slower than 3110,but from other point of views the samsung phone got some looks and sliding styles, depends on you wat phone you wanna buy, . . And the other guy whose saying if the phone comes wit a cable or not, well the nokia 3110 classic DOES NOT come with any cable or memory card, all you get is a cheap headphone, and the charger which charges the phone pathetically slow, other than that the handset is excellent, and the data port of the nokia 3110 is mini usb, this is a extremely cool feature, cause its plug n play, and you can get mini usb cable almost anywhere you go

Hey,for headphones try sony ericsson w-series headphones, try the ones that comes wit w800i,use it wit a 3.5mm convertor,it sounds gr8, and for a 3gp player the phone already have one built in,but for java players try www.mobango.com,you'll get lotsa java video players there, and for saving files directly in memory card, when your phone memory is less or the file size is bigger than your free phone memory, the file directly goes to the memory card, other than that i don't think there is any option of selecting memory card as default storage for bluetooth files. Thankx
