prayags, 03 Feb 2010Thanks Farhan. This is going to be my first Nokia phone. ... moreSorry mate, I live in Mumbai, won't be able to tell you about Noida. And about your first question, here in Mumbai the bill is enough. Just make sure your bill has info about VAT. I'm sure if you'll buy it from Nokia Priority Dealers or any other reputed retailer they'll do what ever is needed for a warranty.

But for others the screen resolution of 360x640 means that most apps will not fit perfectly. You'll have to find ones that are made for Nokia N97, N97 mini, X6, 5800, 5530, 5230, 5235, 5233 that share the same screen resolution.

atul, 03 Feb 2010hi emir and farhan, i m taking touchscreen phone for the ... morePick a Nokia, even the touchscreen is not capacitive. Difference between 5230 and 5233 is in the lack of one option from the later (i dont remember if 5233 lacks either GPS or 3G, compared to 5230). So you could go for this. you could also try 5530, but check it in a store, the plastic on the back cover looks a bit low quality.

atul, 03 Feb 2010hi emir and farhan, i m taking touchscreen phone for the ... moreHi atul, its interesting that you got my name, you must have read far into this forum.
If you've read my previous posts you'd know that I stress on people making their own choices. So I'm gonna state some facts and leave the decision making to you.

You've said that you're buying a touchscreen phone for the first time and are interested in Nokia 5230, Nokia 5233, Samsung Star series (includes Star , Star 3G and Star WiFi), and Samsung Corby series (includes Corby, Corby Pop, Corby Pro, Corby plus)
All of these are entry level touch screen phones and are suitable as an affordable option for a fist time user.
As a general difference, Nokias have larger and more pixel dense screen screen that Corbys and Stars. Also Nokia 5230 is the only phone that has GPS with an added advantage of free voice guided navigation.
Nokias are the only ones that are smart, OS (Symbian) based. Samsungs (Corbys & Stars) are not smart based, thus you wont find any third party applications for them. Though all of them has JAVA support.

Here is a brief comparison as per your criteria :
All of them has good call quality, has photocall, decent camera (Stars come with 3.15 MP cam whereas others have a 2 MP one - none has autofocus).
Messaging functions are there with on screen keyboard. Notable difference are the Corby Pro and Plus with their dedicated keyboard and Nokias with their larger and wider screen thus landscape on-screen keyboard is wide enough.
All of them have been positioned as a multimedia phone thus music playback on all of them are good, though Nokias have an advantage on video playback because of their larger and more pixel dense screen with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Nokias have the largest capacity batteries among the lot, followed by Stars and then the Corbys. But battery life will differ depending on the functions of a particular handset and their usage.
Built quality of Nokias and Stars are good but Corbys are built with materials that look and feel cheap also not that solid.
Touch screen of all of them are "good" with as mentioned earlier Nokias have a larger and better one. Sensitivity is okay, with a difference being Corby (S3650 only) that has a capacitive screen, thus more sensitive. Also the UI (user interface) of Samsung phones (Corbys & Stars) has an advantage of One Touch access to various functions through TouchWiz but Nokias also have their own dedicated Media key button dedicated to multimedia shortcuts.

I think that covered all your mentioned areas.

I dont want to confuse you more but just to mention that in your price range there are various other models available that are usually overlooked by many as many of them are not that hyped. These are LGs ( Cookie, Pop), HTC ( Touch, Viva), Asus (P320, P552w ) with HTCs nd Asus being Windows mobile smart phones.
You can shortlist the contenders to a couple and then decide which one to buy. Also once you have shortlisted make sure to get an inhand feel for them at the retailer and confirm their functions from them.

Shubham, 03 Feb 2010Disappointed as the disadvantages with this phone are many ... morehe has only 1 big disadvantage: no Wi-fi. And maybe no second camera & only 2 mp for camera. But no document reader a disadvantage??? The internet is full of doc readers to download. And the fact that the phone doesnt have wi-fi and you were looking for that it doesnt mean its the device's fault, but yours, for not documenting well before buying. Understand one simple thing: Nokia DOES NOT canibalise their models (if this one had wi-fi, meant 5530 selling was over). Also, there is a reason why this phone is cheaper than other models. You cant have all in this segment of price, so stop making blaming posts: at this price range, you will look for the phone that fits you best. Obviously for you 5530 was better.
