Can any one tell me please if one can upload common jar applications (like those found on getjar.com) to this phone and they will work ? Or applications have to be kind of some touch API compliant ?

I really liked the features of nokia 5230, and its price is within my range.but now i have second thoughts on buying it as i have heard that the phone becomes less touch sensitive as you go on using it after just 2 months, and there is blurring of the display as well.is this true?please reply asap!!!!!

hi im fr the Republic of the Philippines and i bought n5230 just 15 days ago @ a price of 8,450php, in the box are the unit,a charger,2gig microsd, a plectrum, usb cable, a stylus pen and a headphone. The headphone is very bad compare to the headphone i got inside the box of my n73 before but anyway 3.5mm jack solve the problem. I have no complaint about resistive screen and i like it the way it deliver responses to every touch. This is a wise and practical choice, wifi is no use in my location, video calling is not familiarly use, comes with music is much expensive so all in all i save 10,000php in buying this n5230. I experience no problem in operating the unit thanks to nokia for developing this kind of phone this is not a downgrade to 5800 but a cut for some spec for a reason a spec which are deem useless in some corner of the world. Why let those people pay for some useless features attention some manufacturer do what nokia is doing.what i hope here is someday nokia will have a firmware update that include tv out functionality via 3.5mm jack.God bless every one.

well here in brunei, they give 3extra covers, blue pink and red, while the original cover is silver,so 4 covers are given.they also include both stylus and plectrum,USB connector, earpiece and lots of songs in the 2gb memory card.overall, this is an excellent phone,i bought it for $308.=)

"Resistive touchscreens are composed of two flexible sheets coated with a resistive material and separated by an air gap or microdots. When contact is made to the surface of the touchscreen, the two sheets are pressed together, registering the precise location of the touch."
"Because the touchscreen responds to pressure on its surface, contact can be made with a finger or any other pointing device (like finger, stylus/pen, palm etc.)."

We need to note that pointed devices like stylus have a use if the on screens icon are not large enough to be touched by fingers.
After the advent of iPhone every body (including Microsoft with its notoriously small screen icons in Windows Mobile) has made the screen icons large enough to be touched by fingers. We see that in Nokia's Series 60 as well. We hardly have problems touching an on screen in 5230 thus stylus is should have extremely limited or no useage. Probably that's why no Stylus.

In India people are new to touch screen phones and probably the latest in touch tech are not that well and widely known. Also 5230 has been placed almost as an entry level phone. That might explain the inclusion of stylus (and probably the attractive plectrum).

( P.S. The Wikipedia article also talks about disadvantages but its for large screens with touch input like on tablets. )

Maybe they have some sort of market study about buyer's minimum requirements, but who knows. In India they don't even has a USB cable in the retail package. Maybe they think that most Indians never connect their phones to a PC!

They bring the price down by removing things they don't feel most would need. In a sense its good, so technically a person who'd never use a USB cable or maybe the extra back cover are not unnecessarily made to buy it along with the retail package.
People who want it can buy it separately ... but it should be available separately. And back covers are not... well, why is it not available, who knows... But Nokia's official site does say that it has support for "Changeable colour battery covers", so we can expect it from them soon...

Also ebay is another place to keep looking for them. Nowhere are the covers available. Not in India. I happened to read a review of 5230 by a Filipino and even they don't have it in Philippines.

It seems all the battery covers Nokia is making are going on the back of retail phones or packages where they provide extra covers. So once they have surplus production probably then they'll sell them.
