Hi all 5230 owners,
Today i tried searching for new firmware for 5230 and found that a new firmware, V11.0.079, is available. My 5230 firmware is only V10.0.071. How about your 5230 firmware? Anyone has already updated? If yes, pls share what is new and improved in the new firmware.

I bought from E-zone using Std. Chartered credit card and hence I was able to get 5230 @ 8,190/-.

Can someone help me: I had enabled cell area info. However, I am unable to see the same in my home screen.

i bought a 5230 unit a week ago. i can say that this really is a phone of practical value. at only PHP 8000 (USD 80), you get that elegant touchscreen interface which automatically rotates with the help of the accelerometer sensor. and the battery lasts up to 5 days (normal usage; frequent SMS usage). the only drawbacks are: lack of wifi, poor primary camera, lack of secondary camera, long time spent on marking items (e.g. when marking several images before deleting them, you have to point to a file and then press options and then select mark, and you have to repeat this process for every file; the pencil button is missing that's why there's no shortcut; this problem appears on all nokia s60 touch UI).

but my point is that i enjoy it much! no need to explain further. =D

We think Nokia 5230 is a downgrade version of 5800. It lacks Wi-Fi, but is cheaper than his twin brother. We made our review here, http://www.itsagadget.com/2010/01/nokia-5230-is-a-nice-phone.html

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2010is there anyone tell me that can we check pdf of avi fies i... more5230's in-built Real player will not play .avi files.
The video playback file formats are :
              - MPEG4-SP playback 30fps VGA
              - MPEG4-AVC playback 30fps QVGA
              - WMV9 playback 30fps QVGA
              - MPEG4-SP playback 30 fps nHD

If you have a video file you can convert it to any of the above formats by the provided OVI suite.
There are not any well known 3rd party players for DivX-XviDthat runs on Symbian. Also with a limited RAM of 128MB playing larger .avi files smoothly might be a problem.

For .pdf you can easily get a software.

Audio quailty is a matter of taste. If you'd like loud sound through the speaker phone than you wouldn't like 5230 as it has mono (single) speaker.
But if you read GSMArena review ( read here : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5230-review-427p6.php ) the 'audio quality' is "perfect" with "the best audio output in the Nokia full touch family".

parag, 17 Jan 2010hi,how does the 3g and wifi function in mobiles? will u pls... more3G is a high speed wireless data transfer technology (also known as HSDPA)[ wiki article here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access ]. It supports maximum 'download' speed of upto 10 MBps or more(5230 supports upto 3.6 MBps). This high speed transfer rate helps in faster internet connection speed. This is significant in todays time as more and more people are using online social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, entertainment site like You Tube, Internet Radio and other services like emails, RSS feeds, Skype. And more and more phone are coming up with dedicated softwares for them so you don't need to open the browser to access them. Thus 3G helps to keep you connected to the internet anywhere with broadband speeds.
3G works the same way as the usual GSM network i.e you can use it as long as you are in the range of a 3G supporting network tower.
This is about usual internet use by a regular user on the go. Now 3G because of its high transfer speed also supports live video calling.
5230 doesn't has a secondary front facing videocall camera thus you won't be able to 'transmit' your live video over 3G if you want to videocall by looking at the screen. So videocalling feature will not be available to 5230.

Wi-Fi on the other hand is a short distance wireless internet connection that offers a wireless LAN (W-LAN) that you can connect your Wi-Fi device to. This actually works by providing a W-LAN for your broadband connection through a wireless router.
So if you have a internet connection at home and a wireless router for it, you can connect your Wi-Fi device to that connection through W-LAN and get internet access. In context of your phone supporting Wi-Fi, you can get internet access to your phone through Wi-Fi even if you haven't inserted the SIM card (you are in flight mode) i.e. Wi-Fi is GSM, 3G network independent.
I know its a confusing, but if you have a wireless router you'll know what W-LAN is.
The range of Wi-Fi networks are usually limited to distances upto 30 to 35 metres around your Wi-Fi router.
There are many places that offer WiFi internet like coffee shops, airports etc. So you can have internet access (usually free) at these places as well.

                Positives of 3G :
                - High Speed wireless internet anywhere (as long as you have 3G network)
                - Videocalling.
                Negatives :
You have to pay extra 3G data charges.

                Positives of Wi-Fi :
You get your home broadband internet on your phone. So you don't need to pay extra data charges.
                Negatives :
                Limited and short range.

These are one of the most comon connectors on portable devices. You can find one of any brand. If you have a digital/handy cam chances are that the cable wih which you connect them to your PC is micro USB one.

5230 is nice..i just got it 2 days back..most of the features are really good..but some are disappointing..
touch flow is amazing, screen clarity is awesome..web is a little slow..havn't tried the email feature yet
music lovers should highly avoid the fone.i guess the only drawback of this phone is the poor, poor sound quality..speaker isnt loud enough, evn at the loudest volume..theres no clarity, headphone too is not at all loud, u have to strain ur ears to hear the music outdoors.a change of headphone would help but only to a certain extent..
if it wasnt for the poor sound quality, this wld have been the perfect phone. though it doesnt come with a memory card, or a USB cable..
i was using a simple sony ericsson phone before but evn that had very good sound..though nokia beats sony ericsson in terms of features
