It depends on where you are located. In BANGALORE/CHENNAI its around RS 8200/-, In Mumbai its Rs 8900/-(price here is highest due to higher taxes).

Nokia 5230 has normal stylus as well as plectrum one.

          @ Prem
This phone is worth a buy if you are considering buying a touch screen phone and if you are on a budget of around RS 8000-9000/- also if you have shortlisted 3 Touchscreen cellphones Nokia 5230, Samsung Star, LG Cookie,(these 2 are direct competitors of 5230 offering similar features but Nokia 5230 is offering more at its price only drawback is no memory card/data cable.

          @ Debaroon G.
Well you can use a cleaning cloth(similar to one you use for cleaning Spectacles). use more of your fingers than the stylus as it tends to scratch the scratch guard(mine got a bit of scratches). Clean it regularly as it picks up finger prints very quickly.
Do let me know if you know of any scratch guard that offers better protection.

Debaroon G., 13 Jan 2010Hi All. Those who are using touch phones for quite sometim... moreWell about screen protection, I think Nokia must have thought abut that while making the phone. Point to note is that the screen is not completely flushed to the body. There is a bordering edge that extends more than the screen. So basically unless you get your screen rubbed by a hard object the scratches shouldn't be much of a hindrance. But of course it will be difficult to keep the screen as new always. There are some screen protectors (I'm not sure though if they are available in India) that offers excellent protection :

Debaroon G., 13 Jan 2010Hi All. Those who are using touch phones for quite sometim... moreMine still has the screen protector it came with on, I only use my finger tip so not to scratch. I dont have the need to use the stylus pen.

But I would highly recommend using a screen protector anyhow. You can pick them up at most stores or online.

                Hope this helps

tomas, 13 Jan 2010this phone has krinatic scrolling.in 5800 it is absent.this... moreWell Tomas, 5230 and 5800 share the same OS so basically both have kinetic scrolling. Actually when 5800 was launched, S60 v5 didn't had kinetic scrolling but it was later on added to it as S60 started to mature and improve to competition. 5800 can have kinetic scrolling through a firmware update released by Nokia.
Secondly, 5800 has a resistive screen, just like 5230. Nokia's only device with the alternative capacitive screen is X6. Check it out here : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_x6-2922.php
It is one of the first two X series devices by Nokia. (XpressMusic branding by Nokia got converted to X series). The other one is non touch based X3. Both are not yet available in India.

And about 5800 being better than 5230 or not is a matter of individual choice. Anybody who think a better specification phone is better and doesn't mind paying more money for it will obviously rate 5800 XM higher than 5230. (These guys by the way should get off this forum and go here : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5800_xpressmusic-reviews-2537.php). And one who wants the best specification phone in an affordable price will like 5230 more. There is no point of discussion. Nokia hasn't positioned both the devices in competition to each other.
Both have their positives and negatives. It is what feature you prefer more. That should decide your next phone.

In a certain way, 5230 is better than 5800 considering price difference and value for money.
5230's 2mp camera is as good as 5800's 3mp camera with flash being the lone difference. Both records video at 30fps.
5230 isn't shipped with any memory card in the retail box but u can easily obtain 8 or 16 gb card from the local market at cheaper rate.
5230 doesn't hav wi-fi but then its a personal choice of the users if they really need that feature.
5230 has mono speaker- sound quality is good but not better than 5800. All other features are almost same.
Now in India, price difference between the two is around 5 K.
So, choosing 5230 over 5800 is not going to be bad decision.

Use ur fingers for the touch screen.. Clean it regularly... Use the stylus only 2 mark boxes.... And the problems are that its practically impossible to see the display when its bright outside, no memory card is provided with the box, though it supports 16gb.. In a whole the phne is worth a buy and fully loaded for its price.
