- Its a Symbian S60 5th edition smartphone with the number of applications growing by the day since it shares the same OS with Nokia's N97, N97 mini, X6, 5800 XM, 5530 XM (and even with Sony Ericsson Satio and Samsung i8910 Omnia HD but the apps of these two devices won't work on Nokias since the display resolutions are different).
But the point to make is that none of these devices are priced so low, in fact they are top of the line devices. That's another positive - affordability

- It has 3.2" 16M-color TFT LCD 16:9 touchscreen display (360 x 640 pixels). The screen size is considerable as there are not many devices with similar sized or larger display and even lesser are available in India and it has the largest display in its price range.

I think if I go on like this this post will not get uploaded so I'll go further in short.
- ARM 11 434 MHz CPU, faster than 5800XM
- 3G with Built-in GPS receiver and OVI maps.
- Accelerometer sensor for automatic UI rotation, motion-based gaming
- Changeable color battery covers
and other common ones like 3.5 mm audio jack etc

Of course it has negatives as well like an average (some might say below average) speaker phone, no data-cable or memory card in retail package, no videocall camera, average 2 MP camera.

There's no perfect device. You should decide for yourself if this is what you want. So Tanmay I want to ask you : Do you think you should buy it?

Usually memory card are sold separately specially for bigger memory like 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB... and so on. The price varies depends on how big is the memory card. And just incase you don't know... just buy micro SD coz that's the only thing that works in Nokia 5230.

These file formats are supported by the built-in video player. You could find 3rd party video players that can play higher resolution videos and other file formats but the handling of such files by 5230 will be subject to the limited on board RAM.

And not to mention the supplied OVI suite will reformat the video files to the one that 5230 can play if you upload a file into 5230 through it.

- MPEG4-SP playback 30fps VGA
- MPEG4-AVC playback 30fps QVGA
- WMV9 playback 30fps QVGA
- MPEG4-SP playback 30 fps nHD

where VGA = 480x640
QVGA = 240x320
nHD = 360x640 (native display resolution)

Video recording has various modes :
- 640 x 480 pixels up to 30 fps (TV high quality)
- 640 x 352 pixels up to 30 fps (widescreen quality)
- 320 x 240 pixels up to 30 fps/15 fps (email high/normal quality)
- 176 x 144 pixels up to 15 fps (sharing quality)

Right price=right feature strategy. well at this price point providing an above average loudspeaker is not obligatory but neccessary. even a 5130 has a loud ringer.

Well I think, Nok5230 would be better than Iphone in terms of reading pdf's. as 16:9 means width more, height less.
And iphone's more or less anamorphic display means, height = width, will squeeze the text resulting is either more eye strain or continuous swiping left and right to read a page.

Well you are right. but as said in my earlier post, i dont feel it being a problem anymore as i think i have tackled the low sound prob. And also Nokia is known for Right price=right feature strategy. So may be this is it. To get something good you need to compromise a bit.

Debaroon G., 12 Jan 2010Friends, Someone was complaining some time back that their... moreif someone thinks that phone can act as hifi player then its wrong . but for a normal phone , loudspeaker is required for ringing purpose and it is here where the performace of this one suffers (read the gsmarena test) . its below par. 5800 had 2 speakers , they removed one but forgot to increase the capacity equally. the Star on the other hand has a single output and yet the ringing volume is xcellent. the idea is to be able to hear ur phone without vibration.

iPod Touch has a 3.5" dislay.

Reading on a laptop/netbook on the go is tedious.
What do you suggest? Should I go for 5230 or iPod Touch???

Someone was complaining some time back that their is No snooze button for alarms.. I found this funny as i have the snooze as well as stop buttons on screen.

Secondly, Its true that the volume of Nok5230 is low. but do you really think its too low?? I am finding the volume and quality of the audio to be very SOOTHING and good.
I think we should not misunderstand a phone with a hi-fi music player.
>> Try using any mp3 as ur ringtone instead of the inbuilt midi's. it would solve your query (till the next firmware upgrade). Even if it doesnot, take a song convert it to mp3, increasing the source mp3's volume (many softs allow you to do this.)

Lastly MOST IMPORTANT, can you please post, how you r cleaning the touchscreen and keeping it clean. It would be a learning for most of us.

guyz dis phone is really awesome.. 2mp camera is not so rubbish.. pictures r crystal clear in day time..battery back up is wonderful.. after all 1350maH.. this phone has kinetic scroll as u find in iphone.. cant mention al other features.. advantages really overweigh a lot than a few disadv..
