Please can anyone quickly tell how long it takes to upgrade the new firmware 50.0.005? I am upgrading mine 5800 at the moment. After downloading the 148.9MB, it keep on downloading and now is 324MB.
Urgent in order not cancel the update.

Your 1st problem will be solved if you upgrade the firmware to V5.0 since the Hide button is given in place of Exit in music player.
However, with same firmware also you can play music on the b/g. When you start playing your music, just press menu button (White hard button in between Green and Red) to toggle programs anytime. then u can goto Applications menu & can do whatever u want.
IMP NOTE: If you press and hold the menu button for 2-3 seconds, it will show all programs (like wondowsXP's Alt+Tab) and you can chose whatever you want by touching the icons.
2) If you have firmware 4.0 installed, you would see Red arrow moving towards left and Amber(orange color) arrow moving right when Alarm rings. To STOP or SNOOZE, you can move your finger (while tapping) on respective arrow toward the direction it is moving. No need to unlock the screen.
Howver i'm not sure how it is done in case of frmware V3.XX bcoz i started with V4.0 only.

Hey guys........i recently bought 5800 just couple of days back........pls lemme knw hw music is played in background.i mean wen i exit music player its switched off.
Also i am facing problem while snoozing or stoping the alarm.......keypad doesnt get unlocked.........
Plz help

I too updated with v50 but no quickoffice updates. Although Help menu contains information about quick manager which seems to be a part of quickoffice.
This means that quickoffice help without quickoffice:(. Too bad!!!

tatoo, 20 Apr 2010Really! nokia care will upgrade it to latest firmware versi... moreyup. but take note that not every nokia care branch have v40. as mentioned, alimall branch has it and ready for release. greenbelt makati has it too when i inquired. if ur phone is still under warranty (within 12 months after purchase) firmware upgrade is free. however, if declared void or out of warranty by d technician, (if my memory serves me right) dey charge P580. nokia care usually makes no backup, so backup all ur data before proceeding. just 2b sure, bring ur proof of purchase. u may also want to check OTA (over-the-air) before sending ur unit to nokia care, bcoz v50 might be available already with ur 5800 variant. cheers!

yep!, all these i was dieing of work. had lot of pressure, not even opened any website apart from office work.
Bit better this week. so started again :-)
News:::: I have updated my cell firmware to v5.0. I confirm 2 new good features.
1)Kinetic scrolling almost everywhere. Especially long waited one-"on menu grid". Good!!! Thanks nokia. [however not as good as samsungs/iphones even now].
2)Improved music player. a)List shows song+album details. b)shows small theme image on list. looks good. c)when scrollbar is scrolling, shows the alphabet where you are currently scolling (by song name). This is good feature again. [I had this in my 3 years old 1st gen Zune.] d)Hide option in place of exit. Useful feature (bcoz i used to exit accidentally many times, now it avoids) but i prefer both exit and minimize be there as buttons instead of exit only in menu.
Not yet gone through the rtest of the changelogs. but skeptic abt Quickoffice features... Anyone tried pls let me know.

kabute, 21 Apr 2010Is there any solution why I cannot upgrade to the latest fi... morehave mine updated to v40 two weeks ago at nokia care alimall. greenbelt branch has it too. if u still hav warranty, libre lang magpa update. btw, i got lucky ds morning, v50 showed up when i checked OTA. now i im using v50 with album art showing on every music menu and smoother and faster flick/kinetic scrolling even my 5800 is playing a song. v50 is a worthy update =) other changes:
-my default theme sound waves turned into red (before it was silver) my unit is black silver (strange..). system font changed too
-better touch screen response and contacts bar side scrolling plus d reported system wide kinetic scrolling including d grid main menus
-ovi music and ovi sync icons on menus
-no quickoffice though
-find/search function in music menu removed
my 5800's product code is 0583152 (silver black)

Can some one please tell me the settings for connecting to Wifi. I need the settings for the Phone ip, Subnet, DNS etc....Please someone explain the procedure to connect to a Wifi. I have internet on my Laptop and will be setting up an unsecured Wifi connection and will be trying to connect to it. Is this possible?

Is there any solution why I cannot upgrade to the latest firmware?? Mine is v31 still. Tried the application update features and *#0000# method but no updates from Nokia. Is Nokia Philippines way behind

v50 is v gud. But no way2save pages and surf them offline as in s60v3 . Web browser is heavy. No quick office.
