Let me tell you people , who are still thinking about "Buying this phone" , my part of the story.
Since June 2009 , I had been a fan of Nokia E63 . It's prowess and discrete design seemed to have blinded me. Truly even in literal senses it had blinded me of thoughts of buying a different mobile. I planned to buy one on Christmas. In the first week of December , I saw this Phone (The Controversial Nokia 5800) . I went through the first 73 or so pages of reviews and comments , 90% of them stated that this particular handset had frequent and several recurrent problems. (Just like a post below stating that GPS doesn't seem to work). I bought my Nokia 5800 in December , despite of the comments I saw. I installed all the apps. I have a cracked version of Quick Office6 running , have all sort of hacks that could have been done . An Antivirus (Kaspersky). Adobe pdf reader . All cracked and working , and believe me my baby still runs awesome ( even though my piece was "made in China" and some people claim that those are worthless) ! With the new firmware and the Ovi maps3.1 update , I have only 44.8 mb left in my phone memory , but still, it is running sweet and smooth.
If , my friend ,you are looking at the negative comments , I would rather ask you not to take a hint from them.I have it and I have done what ever possible with it ( other than damaging the phone itself), still no creaks no crashes !
And about the hanging problem of the set,it happened once with me, but just that once ,and it was when i tried to open a 2.4GB HD Avatar video on my phone. I found out later that the video had a codec error.
If you have the money to buy this handset , buy one .You won't regret.
And the most important thing, you will never get bored with this phone . You will run out of space but not of apps . :)
And then about the battery problem . (Some people complain about the phone , that it needs to be charged every day or every alternate days). My question to those people is - Have they ever used a high end device before? A 1320mAH , does what it is supposed to do. I had Nokia N72 ( the base N series phone) and Nokia N73 ( a slightly upgraded version to N72) both needed to be charged on a daily basis (as per my usage) , and Nokia 5800 is a giant compared to these phones. 434Mhz processor and 128 Mb RAM , my dear complainers , my first PC had a similar configuration ( I had a 536 MHz processor) ! So what are you people complaining about? THIS PHONE HAS TO BE A POWER HUNGRY DEVICE ! There should be NO ISSUES WITH THAT ! It is simple logic - Larger the Horse Power of an Engine , Lesser the Mileage ! Do you want an UPS to be connected to tube all the time or do you want your phone to continue working without consuming any energy , defying all the basic laws of science! Literate yourself and you will find your problems resolved !
Sometimes you need something more than to be using a handset these days. You need to have a PASSION to use it .
Take Care my friends. I do not regret having bought this device , I would rather say , it is an UNDERRATED device . You get to know it's power only when you know how to use it.
Have a nice time !

my comment is not about the phone.the phone is good. but i want to caution those who wants to go to nokia care for updation of software. i am living in delhi. when i went to one of the nokia care in dwarka to update my firmware to v 40 they accepted. they handed over the sim, memory card and the back cover of the phone. after a few hours i went to collect my phone and handed over the sim and memory card and the back cover of the phone to the same employee who earlier removed these items from the phone and given them to me. when the employee was inserting the cards, i told the employee my intention to take an extended warranty by paying an additional amount of rs.565/- which would be valid for 2 yrs from the date of purchase. i gave my credit card for payment. the employee went inside the service centre alongwith the credit card and the phone and returned back with the phone and card receipt. i thought that the phone was taken inside for activating the extended wrranty on the phone. but when i asked the employee whether the extended warranty has been activated, i was told that the activation would be done online and not on the phone. any way i signed the credit card receipt and took delivery of my 5800 phone and reached home. after one and half hours, when i tried to update the phone as all the data on the phone were lost due to software upgradation, i found that there was no memory card in the phone. i went to the nokia care immediately and enquired about. but it was all in vain. they stuck to their stand that i should have checked everything before taking delivery. no customer would open the memory card slot and check whether nokia care had stolen the memory card or not. but this happenned with me. be careful. all nokia care centres are not trustworthy. do not blindly rely. be watchfull and check your memory card and other accessories before taking delivery. you could be duped by not only unauthrised roadside mobile repair shops but even by nokia care.

For those who have problem with it's gps after firmware update: 1) go to apps 2) go to location 3) got to gps and finally select satellite connection and wait till it finds any satellites and connects to them. then press the menu key and open maps. I have always done so and no problems spotted.

V40 firmware is available. It allows users to choose the home screen theme between the regular 5800 and 5230 style themes. Free Nokia lifetime navigation software available for this version. v40 available in india via nokia care. Just tell them that ur phone is slow and hangs, they will update the firmware for free to v40 :)

Wassup everyone, I have been using this phone for quite some time now and I have to admit, this is one gem of a phone. Sound quality rocks, its really awesome, throw away the cheap and useless Nokia bundled earphone and invest in something good and substantial to see the result, its mind boggling. Camera is decent but not great, a bit letdown considering that it was supposed to be a multimedia giant. Phone does hang sometimes, however, it has been a hereditary disease for every Nokia phone; so nothing unexpected over there as well. Watching videos on this cell phone is an eternal bliss. Its unbelievably great, if you are looking for a great multimedia phone and not allergic to touch screen functionality, your search ends here. Right now, this phone is dirt cheap in all parts of the world and the software that are available for Symbian os v5 are increasing by day. Go ahead and buy this baby, trust me you wont be disappointed.

I have a problem with the phone - NO -. You are a problem and see if you can solve before and not blame the phone.

This phone is by far the most awesome phone ever developed... I've been using this phone for 11 months now, and have experienced absolutely no problems. With the new firmware available, the phone gives an amazing experience that even I hadn't experienced with this very phone. A must buy I must say... This is coming from first hand experience... I'm simply in love with it.
