6230 can handle up to 1GB MMC cards it can also use RS-MMC with the metal adaptor, but buy good quality MMCs or the fast ones... the likes of PRETEC, ATP, Mobymemory, and with the MMC 512 and above format the cards using a card reader, and avoid formating the cards using your 6230...

btw, i posted all of the other 2 posts below, if you need more help goto other forums like www.howardforums.com, where m a regular... cheers!

you can always trasfer big files to 6230, even if your internal memory is low, but you have to browse your phone on the MY Bluetooth Places OBEX or use Nokia PC Suite or other applications like MobiMB, etc...

Hi Risto, I'm refering to when xfering file via BT or IR from a PC, PDA or another phone.

Once the phone receives the file, it will prompt you just how when you recieve an SMS.. "message received".
Then click OK, the phone will ask to you where to save the file, select the MMC. Done.

Just that, before it's saved to the MMC, the file temporarily sits in the phone memory. So, you must have some space in the phone memory first.

sry NokiaMia, i didn't read older messages.
but does it mean that if i do not have a card reader in my pc and my phone's memory is full or doesn't have not enough free space then i cannot transfer mp3's to a mem.card?

                  to NokiaMia:
but you can save received file to a memory card, can't you?

my 6230 could download any type of files... even non-compatible ones ... but of course, the phone would prompt an error of "unrecognized format"

another sharing: when xfering a file via BT or IR (thru Windows Explorer), the file will be received by the phone as a "message received". user then have to select the folder to save the file. With this in mind, it's wise to have lots of space in the phone memory.

                      *To Cristian & NokiaMia,

Tnx for the reply! i guess my mmc has some problem. i thought my card reader can't read mmcs of nokia but i borrowed my friend's phone's card (6600), it worked out well but i can't transfer mp3 files to his phone, maybe because 6600 doesn't have mp3 player. i just hope 6230 doesn't have any issues like that when i buy i new card.

                      Can a 6230 handle a 256MB mmc? i planning to buy one.

                      *To yuyu & farhan,

if your phone memory is already full transfer some of your files to your mmc because nokia phones doesn't let you choose on which memory (mmc or internal memory) you would like to put the file by using bluetooth it directly transfer files to your phone memory.

aljabri - true, you can't bluetooth or IR a file from another phone directly to the MMC. So, the trick is, leave lots of space in the phone memory. Then xfer it to the MMC.

Bob - i'm using 128Mb - no issue - I'm utilizing all of it (around 122Mb, the remaining ~6Mb loss is normal).

hi everyone, i've got the nokia 6230 for 3 months and i have decided to change the memory card to 512 mb or 1G. I was just wondering if the 6230 was capable of using these high capacity MultiMediaCards. Because i heard that the phone only see's the card as 80mb.

                          Thanks in advance, Bob

                                    Wilbert,
Christian's right. If u hv the Memory Card Reader, you don't need PC Suite to xfer files. Once yr PC detects the MMC (it'll probably to labelled as E: Drive or D: Drive), just drag your files into it (using WIndows Explorer, that is). It superquick.

Use PC Suite (use either BT, IR or USB) and click 'Transfer Files' icon if u want to xfer small files e.g. pics, ringtones, etc. Saves the trouble of ripping the cover & battery to get the MMC.

PS: u don't need any other software, you just need to have the files which u wana put un your phone

                                        For Wilbert :
I have made couple of transfers using my card reader and its very simple. All u need is the card reader, you conect the card reader to your PC by USB.After u connected the reader the Windows will tell u that a new hardware was found. Now u insert the MMC card to Your card reader and the MMC will work exactly like a new HDD,you can copy all files u need.....

                                        Good Luck
