Hi Every one,
I just bought a new 6230i and the manufacturing date is June 5th 2005 and I am having the same issue the rings are very low can hardly hear them, my firm wear version is 3.30, I really hope that Nokia resolves this issue via a software fix, I think the users should get to gather and file a class action law suite against Nokia, as this is a manufuring defect. I would appreciate a solution as I do like this phone. Thank you Manish

    I feel very regretful in buying this nokia 6230i! I've wasted my time so much going and back again to their authorized service centers and until now they could not fixed the problem. The problem is, The incoming call alert tone as well as the messages tone is ringing in ascending only when receiving calls or messages, even when it sets in ringing tone. The messages tone could'nt be heardly enough even in full bars. The day I bought it earlier,almost month past, upon complaining, they tried to replace the unit, but all units,6230i, have the same problems. I've wondered why Nokia released a defective products to market like this. I'm so dissapointed!

        I have just returned my 6680 after four frustrating days of ownership. Looking forward to my 6230i having had not 1 single problem in a year spent with my 6230. I don't believe the echo-ing problem exists?!? If anyone tries to sell you a Symbian software phone - RUN

          How this phone could be considered perfect?
          It isnt even the best Nokia,
          just the most advertised and comercial.
          In the world?Have u ever seen any Samsung or SE K750?
          how to compare a nissan car with mercedes benz?

          256kdisplay and 2mp cam i looks much better on pc+phone,
          why to be pleased when u can get more?
          And if u are pleased just because it writes NOKIA get a 1100!

            Basically this is the Best Phone In The Worrld Today. For me, no complaints only compliments. What's more u can ask from a phone? By more realistic, if you try motorola or siemens, I don't know how people is going to complain because can be a few pages.

                Hi Ash,
                That's what many people talking about ascending problem. It just can't ring as max level set. I don't think that was a feature or trying protect the speaker. As mentioned earlier, no issue if indoor...exceptable, if outdoor, than different.

                    @alt_id
                    yes.. my alarms are ascending. But it is a normal nokia feature(?) according to one of my friends. He says that it's even in models like 1100. I don't know much, but I've tested the alarms in my cell & it's ascending.

                    @Rich

                    I have set my ringing tone to 5 itself. I've now tried with mp3 tones as well. It starts off at 3 & ascends to 5 in abt 3-5 seconds. So no problems for me with that. As for the message tone, i use the default nokia message tone & it is working fine. The equalizer settings, i don't know much as i've not played much with it.

                    @Maximus

                    My phone also lights up automatically for no reason at all. Don't know why it's happening. The battery life is poor especially if u use the mobile as mp3/radio player.

                      I have another question for you guys, I have the Hungarian made version, which I don't think is the best.

                      My battery dies in 1 day max. Normal usage, not heavy talking, or heavy radio usage, just occasionally?

                      Do you all have this crappy battery quality too? Or is it just mine?

                      I noticed something, that when my phone is in standby, the phone would just light up automatically for no reason, which i think decreases the battery life big time.

                        Hi guys, I have a small problem with is rather annoying.

                        Whenever I set a ringing tone, after a few calls which I receive, the phone goes back to one of the other ringing tones on the phone. I showed this to a phone repair shop and they advised me to copy the ringing tone which i want from the memory card to the phone. But still, same result! Help please!

                        I have firmware revision (v. 3.30
                        ) date: 21-04-05

                          Thanks Huzzi for your help. *#0000# just tells u the firmware version,the firmware release date and the phone model. i just found out another code which works just fine for me, its the warranty code. Just type on your phone *#92702689# (i.e *#war0anty#) and it will give u your phones IMEI no,manufacture date,purchase date,repair date. Well it worked on mine, my set was made in Jan'05 (while my box says it as April'05, these nokia people are cheats) this code does not work in all phones, i tried it on a 3650, there was no action. U can also check this info at the site link
                          http://www.numberingplans.com/index.php?goto=imei just type in your IMEI number and it will show u its production date model and other info. i typed in the IMEI numbers of both my earlier handset and ther replacement, the production date for both was 6 Jan'05. I believe my replacement is of the same batch as the earlier one so, the same problems. Users who have the phones from the newer batch donot have these problems. Check up ur phones guys. Nokia maybe in for a bad time by giving replacments from the defective batch of phones. Keep me posted.

                            Hi Ash,
                            Ascending problem will only happened in Max Vol.5, below that no problem. Its indeed very bad where using outdoor, hear nothing especially if msg. tone been selected rather that ringtones. I've noticed another "bad", the music play in music player(using earpiece)sound will change if sharper tweeter or vocal being transmit using own settings for equalizer.(level must around center especially for high bit.

                                Ash, can you check your alarm (Organizer - alarm clock - alarm time) and Calendar / To Do alarms (Organizer - Calendar or Organizer - To-do list) and let use know if they have ascending tones.

                                        hi SC im sorry you are dissapointed with the 6230i that is quite a sad story you wrote on here about the phone and it echoing when you talk. This is the same thing that happend to me when i had a 6230 changed it 4 times so i know its a problem with all 6230's as i had echoing on all 4 of them i had and which is the main reason i had reservations about purchasing the new 6230i which you have done. I'm glad i didn't purchase the 6230i as it would have been a case of me jumping from the frying pan and into the fire as i found the echoing very anoying on my old 6230 i sold it and brought a k750 which has 2 megapixels, memory card, flash unlimited video recording so it can record way over hour but most of all the k750 doesnt echo when you talk like the 6230 and 6230i, its unbeleivable how nokia can sell these phones with such major reception faults who wants to listen to their own voice when their talking to another person. Sooner or later this is going to get very anoying. Avoid 6230 and 6230i at all costs as they echo really really dramaticly, if you are reading this and still planning to purchase these phones then you will be wasting money.
