To SHYRILL:

The 6300 is a higher class phone than 3110 classic.

The 6xxx series are high end series...for the most part aimed at the business market.

The 3xxx series are lower end series aimed mainly for the younger generation, like teenagers.

If you check Nokia's official site you will see that they used a kid for the 3110 classic advertisement. They always use adults for 6xxx series. Some people overlook these things and fail to understand that every Nokia series is aimed at a different market.

The good thing about 3110 is that it will give you 1/2 hour more talk time in good conditions and it also have irDa (infared) but more than likely the reason for irDa is for it to live up to the classic name...as most high end phones only come with bluetooth these days.

To sum it up the 3110 has a smaller screen, less resolution and far less colours in the screen. The difference between 262,000 colours compared to 16.7 million colours is very noticeable.

The 3110 camera is a lower one, the body is made of plastic while the 6300's body is made of high quality stainless steel and piano accent. Nokia promoted the 3110 classic as a budget phone while the 6300 isn't.

Finally, CNET, the hardest reviewing company gave the 3110 a 6 out of 10 while it gave the 6300 8.3 out of 10.

    To FARELL:

I'm very careful when I post stuff. If you took note I didn't say all smart phones are slow, I said the average ones are slow. "we all know how slow smart phones GENERALLY are".

If you compare the average smart phone, you will see that only an extremely small percentage have decent speed and that is just with the recent release of 6120 and 5700...as you put it. I couldn't refer to smart phones as if they are usually fast because for many years, including some which were released last year are still very slow. A co-worker of mine have E61i and it's slow as hell...and that's a fairly new one released last year.

So I still have to speak of them being generally slow.

i don't know whats wrong with your friends. but 6300 is a much better phone than the 3110 in every way. 6300 even looks better than the 3110. the battery lasts long in the 3110 than in a 6300 but everything else is a lot better than the 3110. i recommend you go for the 6300.

Not all Smart Phones are slow just like the 6120 and 5700. They have ARM 11 369 mhz processors. So they are as fast as lightning indeed.

                  To LUIS:

Of course I remember you. I spoke to you just last week. Do you mean 4.71 ? I have never heard of 4.72.

Overall the 6230 is a faster phone but bear in mind that the 6230 have a 65k screen while the 6300 have a 16.7M screen. A vast difference in colours which normally has a drawback on processing speed. The 6300 moves almost as fast as the 6230, almost. The fact that the 6300 moves reasonably fast simple means it have a fast processor to keep up with the high quality screen.

If you think about it, the 6300 have a faster processor than the 6230 because when the 6230i came out with the 208x208 resolution, the speed lagged a lot compared to the original 6230 which have a 128x128 resolution BECAUSE Nokia used back the same processor in the 6230i as the original 6230...instead of putting a faster one in the 6230i to keep up with the higher resolution.

That goes to show the 6300 have a faster processor seeing that it has a 240x320 resolution with more than 16 million colours and move almost as fast as the 6230.

If the 6300 had the same exact processor as the 6230 then even the oldest smart phone would have been faster than the 6300...and we all know how slow smart phones generally are.

I find the 6300 to move much faster than 6230 in one area and that is when you browse photos on the memory card. If you browse photos of say 150kb-250kb on the 6230 MMC...worse if you have about 10 or more in that one folder, it takes a long time for the folder to open. With 6300, I open folders with way over 50 photos with file size as large as 300kb and that folder opens in a second!!! That is the ONLY area I see the 6300 being faster. It handles images faster than 6230.

With 6300 I find that dialling a call from SIM or phone memory to be the same exact speed as dialling it from 6230.

In regards to the firmware, 5.50 is the lastest. You can upgrade to that one. I don't have any problems these days with mine. After the first week or two weeks of upgrading to 5.50 my phone started restarting every now and again. The most annoying part was when I was on a call and it restarted. It has been perfect for the longest while now and my memory card seemed to be a factor in the malfunctions.

My phone came with v5.00. The only reason I upgraded to 5.50 was to be able to hear the recordings at full volume. With version 5.00, when you playback a recording which was recorded by the voice recorder, the volume through the loudspeaker was so low you had to press it against your ear to hear it. It was even lower than the earpiece speaker which is used for calls. The volume was adjusted in 5.50. According to the changelog for 5.50, the playlist is more improved as well, among other things. The ONLY improvement I clearly notice is the output for the recordings.

Keep telling me about your findings and adventures with the 6300. Take care Luis.

                    To OJ:
Do you remember me on the 6230 forum?? well my girlfriend and I traded our phones for some days. Now she have the 5700 and I have the 6300. I have found that this beauty doesn´t heats for anything. I listened to music for more than an hour and the phone was at normal temperature. Only when I play it feels a very little warm but that is normal for all phones. The only problem I found is that this 6300 is some slow when it reads my 1gb micro sd. It takes a lot to open it when I´m looking at the gallery to put a ring tone. But otherwise it´s superb: great materials used, eyecatching, the best mobile screen I´ve ever seen, a god camera in good light conditions and addequate battery life (I used it a lot this first day and I have 75% of the battery). The firmware is 4.72. Which firmware do you reccomend?? cause I think there are newer versions

Does anyone know if the 6300 is compatible with the factory fitted car kit on 2006 5 series BMW as only certain Nokia's are.

hey all, i like how this phone looks but before buying it.. i'm wondering few things..

1.) if u can use internet or most importantly chat with someone through this phone. if so, then how?

2.)if this phone can play movies, music videos, download dictionary.. again, how?ü

3.) and what's the maximum memory card for this phone? or what is the advisable mem. card for this so it won't take forever in opening folders?

                            please reply.
                            thanks,

As with many of todays cellular devices, the home charger included with the cellular device is the best method of charging. Most often after market or "rapid chargers" do more harm than good. Car chargers are also classified as rapid chargers. Theses devices do not have the cut off circuit that your other chargers do therefor if you do not disconnect the device after the charging is completed you will over charge the battery and damage your battery or phone. I am looking forward to getting my Nokia 6300.

                                        To Sajid & Vijayan:

1st of all to SAJID, you cannot use s60 applications in s40 phones as far as i'm concerned. but you might similar softwares made for s40 as well. check out www.zedge.net or www.mobiles24.com.

as for VIJAYAN, this is a very good phone except the battery dies a bit quickly than other phones. other than that i see no compelling reason NOT to buy this phone. its good value for money as well.
