Slick and lightweighted. Nice design which has a classy feel to it. Would be a good phone to have with all the basic funtions. Too bad mem is not expandable. Though the 1GB built in would be sufficient for normal use.

The 6500 classic supports H.263, MPEG4, and 3GPP video playback.
Real Media player files are not supported - for this you will need a smart phone. If you like Nokia's and slim form factor, then you might want to consider the E51. It is the only other phone I want right now, despite me recently getting a 6500 Classic.
The E51 will offer far more in terms of function compared to the 6500C - only it is slightly fatter and not as good looking.

To pip healily:
this phone is stainless steal???
No. The top section is made of aluminium, the bottom section (battery cover) is made of glossy plastic.
is it vulnerable to rust??!?
Aluminium doesn't rust. And last time I checked, neither does plastic...
can it be used under water like the 2310 ???
Are you smoking crack? Or have I missed 20 years worth of mobile design in that MORE phones rather than LESS are water resistant these days? If you dumped practically any electrical device into water, what do you think happens?
Very few mobiles are water resistant, and do you seriously think the 6500 Classic - a FASHION phone - will have a special ability to be used underwater? This easily gets comment of the week. If you aren't udner 6-years-old, I would be very, very concerned, unless you have technological dyslexia.
Does the phone even look water resistant? Am I not seeing the big, bulky, gummy plastic seal around the thing?
or would it start to freeze???
Well it would freeze underwater if the water was stagnant and below 0 degrees centigrade.
On a more serious note, yes, it will "freeze", aka break. In fact, your severe lack of simple physics when it comes to electrical items mixed with water I find particularly alarming.
I think a slightly better thing to do with your time, rather than post educationally-inept and disturbing comments on a message board, would be to buy a few books about physics, preferably on what happens when electric is mixed with water. In fact, why not fill your bathtub full of water, and throw in your TV, PC, xbox, radio, toaster, MP3 player and any other electrical item which is nearest your disposal, and see what happens when you plug it all back into the mains again?
Actually no, don't. You might end up killing yourself. And no, humans don't mix particularly well with water and electricity either. Shocking, isn't? And there was me thinking we'd all be fine considering we are 70% water and our brains use electrical impulses...

Around £480USD.
This is probably about the worst time in the modern history of the greenback to be buying expensive, imported goods because it is so horrendously weak and is weakening by a good fractional percentage EVERY day...
Tough times ahead for your slumping economy my Yankee fried - buy up Euro's or Sterling instead!

Standby time excellent but talk time is terrible. Typing message is not easy cause the keys are too small & difficult to press. The worst ting is that you do not get the correct "delivery report"; because it show pending/un-delivered message but in reality it was sent!!!

If you kick up a fuss, no doubt Nokia will send you a replacement phone. So just tell them you think the battery is dud and/or it is a problem with the phone, and they will probably send you a brand new replacement phone.
And oh yeh - just realised there is no brightness control for the screen!

With reference to turning off 3G and the packet data, the battery life didn't change, it was still naff.
I really loved the nokia 6500 classic, I love the look and the sleekness, I went from a Nokia 6233 to the 6500 and I was totally amazed on how good the 6233 was, the battery life was amazing and a all round fantastic phone.
After talking to my service provider again, I maybe had a bad phone from a bad batch as the Nokia 6500 classic is flying out of the shops.

pS42, how to turn off 3G? By choosing GSM , not Dual network, is that right?
By the way, how can you be talking about it, if the 6500classic doesn't allow changing of the brightness level? None of the display settings (contrast, brightness, backlighting) are adjustable, unfortunately...
Any news about the new firmware, anybody?

My 6500 Classic has been perfectly fine.
Any software problem can be/will be resolved by using the rather simple-to-use Nokia Updater software which is easily accessed once you have installed the Nokia phone software. This should resolve software issues as Nokia notices the problems and releases firmware to fix them.
Battery problems is probably due to the battery. Yes my battery does not last too long either, but then a small phone = a small battery and a physically small battery = less power.
You could always reduce the screen brightness to low, remove the screensaver and go straight to power saving mode and turn off 3G if you aren't using it for data services.
By doing all of the above (especially switching 3G off, which is a power hog), the battery life is increased.

I had until today 2/12/07 the Nokia 6500 Classic, really loved the phone until 2 weeks ago the phone kept freezing and the only way to unfreeze it was to remove the battery and sim and start again!!! The battery life is really poor and after numerous phones calls to my service provider I have sent the phone back after being told that there is a software problem and opted the forever faithful Nokia 6300.

I just sold my NK6500c because the buttons are too small and battery life sucks.
Anyone here have the same problems? I charge it full today and by next evening it was almost flat!
Looks can be deceiving
