To mohsen: I have the 6500 classic and can tell you that the ringer rings at a constant level from first ring - it does NOT do a low first ring and then goes loud. Its a cool phone, and despite the limitations of its S40 software, it's quite accomplished too. Also this reply has been posted thru my opera web browser... using my 6500 classic! The best phone i hav ever used (out of about 9) that is not a smart phone. And i don't think you can get a better recommendation than that!

To cash: For something sexy, slim and fashionable, but nothing ground-breaking, go for the 6500 classic.

If you want a media player (good for MP3s, videos, games), go for the N81.

For a business phone (productivity), go for the E65.

To pTEA: Well, the 6500 Classic black took long enough to come out (5 months). And 5 months after the black colour was released, the bronze colour will be available. So beleive it or not, you're gonna have to wait until early February 2008 to get the bronze version.

          To Aspex:

          Your criticism of this phone:

          1.Flmsy
I own the phone and it is far from flimsy. It's probably psychological considering you have probably not owned a phone as slim as this. I have owned around 8 other phones from various different brands (I am not some friendless brand-b!tch), and the 6500 Classic build quality is excellent.

2.fiddly key pad the gap between the silver bars can only accomodate the slimest of fingers or thumb nail in my case.
The keypad is definately quite cramped, but I have largish hands and can use the keypad quite successfully if you just turn your thumb in a bit. It is not the most comfortable of phones to use, but certainly is not one of the worst. If you want to see atrocious texting, try the iPhone. I really didn't think it was as bad as everyone was saying, but you literally DO have to use your little finger to text correctly on that horribly flawed rip-off.

          3. Battery life is short of that claimed.
Most batteries are and the battery was never going to be amazing considering it is a small battery in a small phone. Why not switch 3G off, switch your screen saver off and just use power saving mode and reduce the brightness of screen? This will drastically increase battery life. Also do regular full to empty to full charges to keep the battery optimally charged.

          4. How do you adjust the volume?????
When you make or receive a call, push the selector (square) button UP.

          5. The back late is so thin that I doubt it will last very long.
It will. It's aluminium after all.

          6. The back plate protrudes on the sides leaving a sharp distracting edge.
What? Do we have the same phone? Or have you snapped yours in such a way that certain parts are now potruding? Nothing juts out of the side of my 6500 classic and it is completely smooth - with no sharp edges.

Also, for those people who say the phone is so small it is easily dropped, just be extra careful and always pick the phone up from its middle (around the metal section) rather than from the glossy plastic bottom half - brushed metal = more grip than glossy plastic...

Heat up during phone call is a "signature" of Nokia phones!.....this one NO exception!

Ebz, yes, I feel too, that the call quality is really poor - I have the Voice clarity and GSM (not Dual - GSM+UMTS) network turned on. Could anyone say what the UMTS will change, possibly in the reception quality?

I was going to buy this phone yesterday but a friend who works for a phone retail company says that due to the phone being made of a certain material it has really poor reception. Has anyone else had these problems?

                        1 month later...

I initially wrote a good 'report' about this phone, but now I certainly have reservations.

                        A few points:
                        1) the keypad is definitely not as easy to use as at first thought. An N82/8800 style keypad would be much better. Shame that Nokia don't do interchangable keypads.

                        2) I've experienced a lot of bad call quality (signal break-up) and also of dropouts, ie., getting cut off completely. This has caused me considerable frustration. I've had to send the phone back for 'repair'.

                        3) The camera is terrible in anything less than good lighting conditions, even with the flash on.

                        4) Despite being very careful with phones, I've mishandled it twice now, which I've never done with any previous phone. It's nice that it's thin, but couple that with the smooth rounded sides...it's a bad combination.

Tho' I initially really liked the phone, I'm now wishing I'd gone for something else.

just commenting on the contract deals, its really worth pushing the sales person when talking to them, you need to be firm.

I was offered 600 xnet 1000 texts & unlimited o2-o2 calls for £25 a month 18 monts contract and i pushed for more discount and managed to get the whole deal for £20!

allwayts worth a try, good idea is to quote better deals from other companies.

MM_a, no, this phone doesn't have a radio, but 1GB of memory should do the job for listening to music.
