Sound quality(including the loud speaker) is surprisingly good. Reception quite strong too. I can confirm this phone does heat up just like any other Nokia phones; cause this is my 2nd 6500c!
This phone is overall much better than the 8600, with stronger & more stable reception; better & clearer calls; better function; lighter & nicer to hold; more user friendly; 3G capable; battery last longer & is better looking when compared next to each other...!

anyways. i think you are trying to use this NOkia like you are using a SE... the SE's you can turn on the LED like a flashlight... right?
But i think you are gonna change phone soon :) so u still haven't told me if you are gonna send me the phones after you finished with them :)

I've noticed there is a similarity in design between this phone & the SE K600(The first 3G phone I brought, back in 2005). Both phones have smooth round sides(no other phones have this design except these two) & they do give similar feeling to you palm(because of the round edges). This 6500c is obviously thinner in feel.
Nokia claim that the front screen material is made from glass; not plastic.
Noticed the four slanted edges of the front screen frame are sharp & may cut my fresh!...They are cut by diamond(according to Nokia).
Any idea how to turn on the front screen lighting briefly when charging with the phone turned off?...need to do it because the front screen background color too dark & the battery charging icon too small! Any idea?
Btw, can we use the flash as a tourch? Where is the location of the attenna, the top or the bottom of the phone?

I think it is a great phone. Much better than the 6300. It has no FM Radio but with 1GB Memory you can add your own music and listen to on the phone.

the Advert for this phone is Funny ..the guy says *has anyone lost a Phone its a Nokia 6500 classic* then all the ppl in the train station run to the Counter! loooooooool such a funny advery

i worry about you for being worried over something in a mobile phone opinion section
i also worry about the time you spent on digging the review of an SL55 few years back.
Furthermore, i worry how you see mobile-review as a bible to follow

Mobile review had this to say about the Siemens SL55:
"They will buy this handset to their girlfriends and wives. The other target group is young girls, who pay attention firstly to exterior and then to features, operating time and other things."
Are you two posters gushing about the SL55 blokes? Because if you are, I would be very, very worried...

If you look at the previous opinions someone did mention how you open the cover.... Just don't do what you normally do (ie push down and out)
You first have to know which part belongs to the cover and which part is not. Basically you have ur phone face up, then put ur right hand underneath like you are grabbing a tv remote. left hand placed on the screen and grab... then all u have to do now is pull ur right hand inward and ur left hand outward .. remember your right hand is grabbing only to the plastic which will separate the cover from the phone.

About the other question... i don't know 2.
I have sleep mode on and everything also.. i wish the screen completely turns off when i lock the phone. It just remains on for like 2 minutes before it turns off. that is a battery killer.

Just got this phone. It's great. How do you set that the phone would completely turn off its screen when not used? The sleep mode is on, but that still doesn't turn off the screen...

Well. yes we have similar tastes.. but i was never as rich as you are! you sound like you change phones like clothes! I would never pay for them for $1000 and different versions at the same time!
Well since we both have the same taste, how about sending me your phones whenever you don't want them? lol

We had similar taste!
I had brought two V70(one with blue & the other with green keypad) at the same time. The design was so special & the phhone look amazing. I remember I paid around US$1,000 each!
I had used quite a few SL55(one after another). It was a nice looking & handy small slider. I loved it! The only problem was that the SL55 was a pretty fragile phone....especially the navigation key(they last for 3-5 months only)! Whenever they break, I took them to Siemens for reparing; but they never feel the same after reparing!!! Still remember those Siemens customer service advisor were very helpful & friendly!
Because of the un-satisfactory repair, everytime I have to buy a new one to replace my old one! The last SL55 that I brought was the black limited edition before the model discontinued.
Do you still remember that we were able to use some of the functions of the SL55 without inserting a sim card?....it was such a good design!
I had owned quite a few high end Nokia phones of the past, like 8810 & 8850. I still remember that the reception of the 8810 was terrible....I was travelling & was staying at the Chelsea hotel in London. I kept on getting drop calls in the hotel room! I was so pissed that the second day after I arrived home; I traded it in for the Motorola V series(the little flip phone)!

Some of the phones i had before,
v70, SL55,K750, L7, A1200.... i don't know why... but it was
mostly motorola... once in a while they just come up with one design that just makes u surrender. I remember the V70... The white txt on black, the turning action required to answer a call, the stylistic "click" as the phone is fully opened/closed... nothing would ever come close in terms of breakthroughs. then it was the Siemen's SL55. that thing was "THE SLIDER" jewel.
but we still need to move with technology. i gave up my v70 because it was the beginning of the colour screen phones. I gave up my SL55 because it was the time of the camera phones....
and now the Nokia 6500c. let's see what the story is this time lol

Had the 6500 Classic for a week now, so only fair I post a review!:
First things first - functionality. Clearly the most important thing on a phone, and I am not talking about having a 500MP Digital SLR NASA endorsed camera, nor a quad-PS3 processor or a 6 trillion GB harddrive for music or a faux, pull-out flange for keeping yourself happy when your imaginary girlfriend signs off MSN.
I am on about pure functions, i.e. what a phone was designed to do. Amazingly, many of the super-nerds on these boards seem to forget phones are for communicating rather than being multimedia players (note: See the "Zune").
This phone replaces my now very dated looking D900 which I really did begin to hate with a real passion. It begins to rally grate when texting becomes painfully clumsy, you can't automatically save sent text messages, call clarity is awful, call management is dated... I could go on. Basically, it defines an utterly sh!t phone.
The 6500 Classic is the complete opposite. The call clarity is excellent. Call management is excellent. You can silent ringing calls rather than hang up (which is useful). The call log is easily accessed and intuitive.
Texting is a joy - it is seamless and easy. Message options are easily accessed.
The menu options are very attractive to look at and are incredibly easy to access and change.
The screen is excellent and the detail very good courtesy of being able to reproduce 16 million colours (massively increasing anti-aliasing).
This makes browsing the net not quit as painful as it should be on what is a "small" screen by browsing standards.
Almost everything on the phone is editable to some extent - from being able to display both name and number in your phone book to changing the tone of your text messages, email, IM and even calander alerts.
The 1GB of storage is easily enough for most users.
Battery life is very good - you just need to do a few empty-full-empty-full charges to maximise your batteries life.
The look of the phone really is as good as they say. You can believe the hype. The curved edges with no side buttons really does give this phone a very nice, unique and modern look. The black aluminium looks very classy and although they have used shiny plastic for the battery cover, this doesn't ruin the phones look at all.
The included apps are all very good and it is very easy to find additional software, themes etc on the net. 3G is a welcome addition too.
The bad - although 1GB storage is enough for most, perhaps expandable memory would have been nice. They could have surely placed a slot for this next to the sim, meaning Nokia wouldn't have had to ruin the core design of the phone by putting an expansion slot on the side, top or bottom of the phone.
The shiny plastic battery cover is VERY prone to finger prints and is very difficult to completely clean if you suffer from overly greasy mitts.
Why they didn't make the battery out of aluminium too is beyond me. Maybe because of costs, but personally I wouldn't have minded paying an extra £30-50 (on contract of course) for the sake of a totally gorgoues brushed aluminium-clad phone.
Because of the high sheen, it can make the phone more slippery than the face of the most greasiest of teens - and something this small that looks this good hitting the floor could mean disaster. A few scars could ruin this phones modelling career, permanently. And one drop could be enough to consign it to the dustbin or at least crack the screen.
Also, the Pammy-esque top-heavy design means the possibilty of dropping the phone is ever greater - I have almost done it once, which brings me back round to why they didn't bother making the battery case out of aluminium to balance out the weight?
The camera is sh!t. Make no mistakes, even utility photos will look dire regardless of how good you are at snapping. This doesn't bother me because I never use my phone for snaps - even the 5MP SE's of the world are inferior to the equivalent 5MP stand-alone digital camera, but if you are friendless feature-geek, then this might bother you...
No front camera for video calls. Who cares, really? Osama Bin Laden? I hear he rather likes the convenience of plying his terrorist trade over the 3G network. Or does he prefer satellite phones? Good ol' Bin Laden might light video calls, but most of us Westerner's don't especially at 50p per minute when we don't have said terrorists billions in the bank.
So a front camera is something 99% of us can quite easily live without and I personally wouldn't really class it as a negative.
The case doesn't offer sufficient protection for the screen, which seems very fragile. I have (for the first time ever), left the screen protector which came with my phone on. Just lightly pressing the screen will start to make the screen pixels do their "smear" thing from the pressure being placed on them. Was it really that difficult to put a thin layer of glass across the screen?
The keypad is also a tiny bit cramp. If you have the hands of bigfoot or are morbidly obese, I really will feel for you. Well, I won't really, because that is your problem. But yes, the keypad is a bit on the squashed-up side and if your fingers aren't too nimble, be prepared for a serious bout of fat-finger-syndrome and aching thumb joints.
For those of you with numble fingers and largish hands (like me), you should be fine once you get used to holding the phone in a certain position, but make no mistake, this phone is not the most comfortable to use.
Also, the central scroller (that big square thing) seems rather prone to decaying after a few months use - at least that is what I am guessing. By that, I mean after a good few months use, I reckon the plasticy bit in the middle of the square might of worn away somewhat or at least show signs of wear.
I could be wrong.
All in all, an excellent phone. It looks amazing. It is amazingly slim (about time too, Nokia). It works amazingly well. It isn't too expensive either - I picked on up on a 12 month contract @ £18 per month after redemption from a well respected retailer.
Highly recommended and easily beats what I would consider one of the better phones I have used (in terms of size vs performance) - the 6100. Considering this phone is in the 6xxx family, it was probably inevitable (if unforgivably overdue) that the ever-popular 6100 would lose it's crown - and being a 5-year crown holder is hardly a bad thing.
Although it does show just how off-the-ball Nokia has been. It serves them right that they have lost vast amounts of revenue to their competitors (i.e. slim phones - which is current market demand) and hopefully with this phone, Nokia can halt the 5-years of utter brick-phone embarrassment.
