Nice review, cheers.
"Cons: Sound coming out of the ear piece is very soft, however speakerphone is avaliable."
That'll be sorted in a firmware update. Same thing troubled the 6233 & 6300 on release.

I just got the phone... the phone is great, very good quality, solid etc. For me, 1gig memory is enough as I have another thin mp3 player to play music. Another down side that people see is the mere 2meg pixel camera, i think the quality of 1600x1200 is enough for take simple pic on the run (for me at least) So for me, this phone is ideal as i don't use that many functions, this phone offers more than enough. But most of all I chose this phone is because of the slimness = very easy to get out from tight jeans.
Subtle things (That was came with my phone):
Nokia claims each phone is unique, which is true, but the grain carving of the case can only be seen when you look at it very closely.
The phone also game with a thin piece of plastic that overed both the camera and the main screen, which i kept there for protection.
Firmware, PC suite 6.84, easy to use, but the most surprising aspect that, the 'drop and drag'(data storage) could be used (often seen in mp3 players)
Battery life: ok
speakers: reasonable
TFT screen: Display is very vibrant + has a reflective aspect to it, which means it can be read clearly in the sunniest of days.
flash: blindingly bright, but when used for photo taken, the affect is small...
Cons: Sound coming out of the ear piece is very soft, however speakerphone is avaliable.
But it is a hassle to have to turn the speakerphone on everytime someone calls..

I almost picked one up yesterday at a electronic store .... maybe I'm lucky I did not, cause I tried my friend's Sonyericsson W910 and found that it's a nicer phone for an extra US$100 !

Because the North American cellular network is considered "inferior" to that of Europe and Asia, hence why the 6500 Classic (and a lot of other phones) are optimised for those markets.
It's also why the 3G iPhone is being released in Europe in Jan 08...

Steve:
You mentioned that:- "That's just on the GSM-1900 band that's commonly used in the North America. Nokia responded by saying that those allegations weren't true, but the phone is optimised for GSM-900 and GSM-1800 and obviously UMTS (3G)."
.....so what's the reason behind that it's got bad reception on GSM-1900? Why is this phone optimised for GSM-900 & GSM-1800 & UMTS & not GSM-1900???

Why do reception issues matter if you can't even buy the phone?
In fact, why have Nokia even bothered defending these so called reception "issues" on the 6500 Classic if they have forgotten to even release it?

" like the 6500 Slide that we recently reviewed, the Classic suffers from less than ideal reception abilities "

Nice phone. Nice indeed. Would have been better if the camera lens could be hidden somehow.
A slim integrated sliding cover should/would/could have done the job. But definitely not something as huge as the slide of 6681 or N72.

I think you might have a point there - it keeps their cash flow statement looking very healthy and makes sure their share price remains stable.
Perhaps this is the new "tactic" of companies these days, who know they have a desirable or in-high-demand product on their hands.
I too have been waiting months now for this phone (which is a bit sad - my contract ran out mid-August), but there is simply nothing else on the market I want at the moment.
And I am not waiting this long, only to get the phone on a rip-off contract. So the wait continues, probably for at least another few weeks more, which is pathetic.
This is probably why the phone is not available on other networks at the moment - because Nokia have purposefully released very limited numbers of the 6500 Classic. It's almost a grudgingly, take-my-ball-and-go-home kind of attitude from Nokia, which is ridiculous. The phone is nice, but it isn't that amazing...

I think they are doing it on purpose to create artificial demand like Nintendo do with the Wii by only releasing very small but steady shipments to retail. I'm fed up though, been waiting months for this phone! Grrr.

It's more than laughable.
It's pathetic. I have never come across anything like it - it is easily one of Nokia's most delayed handsets ever, and I can't help thinking it probably boils down to very poor marketing, PR and distribution management.
Perhaps they should have just called this phone the Nokia 6500 Overdue Classic. It would have been spot on - this is clearly no way to sell something by first of all letting its release become so massively delayed and then when it is supposed to be released, just letting it slowly trickle into the market.
Did Nokia even want to release this phone?

It's 15th October and I still can't buy this phone! What is the point of advertising it on TV so heavily if people cannot buy the product? Why are Nokia so slow at shipping this handset? It's laughable.
