I have this phone since I can't remember for how long (2017). It has been exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. I would buy another Nokia model if I need a new phone

Whatever issue you encounter with this phone, the culprit is always the battery.

I loved this phone, got stolen from me

I fainted frequently when i had this phone, was durable throughout, switched my phones to the xperia 10, but that couldnt survive the drops i experienced, this thing did and i kept using it until it was stolen from me after a faint.

it felt so good in the hand as well, such a solid device, miss it a lot

My current Nokia 8 had zero problems as of now and is much faster than my friends' newer flagship phones, despite having a comparatively older processor

Minu, 06 May 2021hi again, how was ur experience with the nokia 8?I had a nokia 8 for 4 years. Got many small issues (microphone has been replaced, compass has been faulty during 2 years and random reboot when battery optimization was ON). I switched to a Samsung a52s. I noticed a better stability (no random reboot). And their UI and apps provide a valuable plus (Health and Photo apps especially). I'm much more confident in my phone now. HMD do not have enough IT engineers. Soft is key.

Hope that helps.

I can recommend switching to a custom ROM, the performance is much better than stock and you'll get updated to Android 11 along with the latest security patches. You can check on the XDA Developers forum and also Telegram (in the Nokia 8 group) for guidance.

Mine isn't as bad as that, but it sometimes crashes and reboots when I try to take a picture in Gcam. The worn battery can't cope with the load in certain scenarios (ie. camera processing is very CPU intensive) and so the phone just 'cuts out' due to insufficient power. Once you replace the battery it will solve the issue.

Cupcakes, 16 Oct 2021Oh yes, I totally forgot the custom ROMs :) I just inst... moreNice that you installed a fresh battery in your Nokia 8. I've replaced phone batteries before, but this one looks more difficult since it disassembles from the screen side. :)

I have been running AccuBattery on mine for the past 3 months and after 135 cycles it shows 78% battery health. So, it could be a lot better, but I still find the battery to be fine.

I actually only installed a custom ROM on my Nokia last week and it has already made a huge difference. Performance is much better, especially scrolling is undoubtably smoother. You get all the benefits of Android 11 and the security patches. I am very happy I did it. You can unlock the bootloader for free using the tool on the TechMesto website. I'm running HavocOS which is similar to stock with a lot more customisations. It also supports encryption.

I just installed a fresh battery on my Nokia 8 to revive the old beast which was lying in a drawer. Sad to see this still stuck in Android P with Oct 2020 security patch. Perhaps I should try a custom ROM as you mentioned.

Have you considered a Sony device? They don't have punch holes or notches, and they're pretty much one hand usable with excellent hardware. I think the only drawback is going to be that 21:9 aspect ratio.

Anyways, it's up to you to decide. Everyone see the world differently and if you're so onboard with the 16:9, let's hope someone will launch a device targeting people like you...

I've been using it since July 2018, it was a neat device, the camera can make incredible pics with the Google cam mode, and the smaller size makes it very comfortable to use. Stock Android is also a plus for me, I know some people find it boring. A year or so the screen started suffering from ghosting, and several months ago several white burn-ins appeared (small, visible only on the white background). Not surprised, considering that I've been using it extensively every day. But it's time for a change :(

Cupcakes, 09 Oct 2021By holding on to 16:9, you're going to get some seriou... moreWell, I don't disagree with you. I hate using old phones but I feel like there's not much choice. They make everything so stupidly oversized these days. I miss when all phones used to be a normal size suitable for one-handed use, and have an uninterrupted display area with those idiotic rounded corners and notches/punchholes.

I haven't actually bought the Razer Phone yet but I am still looking out for one. It's hard to find a good example on the second-hand market. I love the idea of it because it has 120Hz 16:9 LCD and those stereo speakers. But for now I am still using the Nokia 8.

At least these old phones can be kept alive and up to date using custom ROMs. Nokia 8 currently has official HavocOS and AncientOS and both Razer Phone models have official LineageOS, all based on Android 11.
