Mine isn't as bad as that, but it sometimes crashes and reboots when I try to take a picture in Gcam. The worn battery can't cope with the load in certain scenarios (ie. camera processing is very CPU intensive) and so the phone just 'cuts out' due to insufficient power. Once you replace the battery it will solve the issue.

Cupcakes, 16 Oct 2021Oh yes, I totally forgot the custom ROMs :)
I just inst... moreNice that you installed a fresh battery in your Nokia 8. I've replaced phone batteries before, but this one looks more difficult since it disassembles from the screen side. :)
I have been running AccuBattery on mine for the past 3 months and after 135 cycles it shows 78% battery health. So, it could be a lot better, but I still find the battery to be fine.
I actually only installed a custom ROM on my Nokia last week and it has already made a huge difference. Performance is much better, especially scrolling is undoubtably smoother. You get all the benefits of Android 11 and the security patches. I am very happy I did it. You can unlock the bootloader for free using the tool on the TechMesto website. I'm running HavocOS which is similar to stock with a lot more customisations. It also supports encryption.

I just installed a fresh battery on my Nokia 8 to revive the old beast which was lying in a drawer. Sad to see this still stuck in Android P with Oct 2020 security patch. Perhaps I should try a custom ROM as you mentioned.
Have you considered a Sony device? They don't have punch holes or notches, and they're pretty much one hand usable with excellent hardware. I think the only drawback is going to be that 21:9 aspect ratio.
Anyways, it's up to you to decide. Everyone see the world differently and if you're so onboard with the 16:9, let's hope someone will launch a device targeting people like you...

I've been using it since July 2018, it was a neat device, the camera can make incredible pics with the Google cam mode, and the smaller size makes it very comfortable to use. Stock Android is also a plus for me, I know some people find it boring. A year or so the screen started suffering from ghosting, and several months ago several white burn-ins appeared (small, visible only on the white background). Not surprised, considering that I've been using it extensively every day. But it's time for a change :(

Cupcakes, 09 Oct 2021By holding on to 16:9, you're going to get some seriou... moreWell, I don't disagree with you. I hate using old phones but I feel like there's not much choice. They make everything so stupidly oversized these days. I miss when all phones used to be a normal size suitable for one-handed use, and have an uninterrupted display area with those idiotic rounded corners and notches/punchholes.
I haven't actually bought the Razer Phone yet but I am still looking out for one. It's hard to find a good example on the second-hand market. I love the idea of it because it has 120Hz 16:9 LCD and those stereo speakers. But for now I am still using the Nokia 8.
At least these old phones can be kept alive and up to date using custom ROMs. Nokia 8 currently has official HavocOS and AncientOS and both Razer Phone models have official LineageOS, all based on Android 11.

Since pretty much every manufacturer is getting on board with taller aspect ratio, It'll be even harder to find another device in a few more years once your razor phone gets older.

I've been using this phone since 2018.
I had a great time with it until this year's February, when it all went south really fast. First and the most annoying is that it restarts whenever it wants. Usually it happens when it's under 30%, but lately even at 70% it restarts when I open a game or switch between apps (so basically when I stress it).
Secondly, when it restarts, it takes such a long time until it is actually usable, around 2 full minutes, time in which it is actually useless.
I ordered a new battery, planning to change it and I hope the problems will go away. I believe that because when it is charging, all the problems disappear.
Also, I am wondering if the car magnet which holds it in place has any kind of influence on the battery. If anyone knows, please reply to me.
Thanks!

P650SE, 01 Aug 2021Anyway I'm just holding onto this phone as my primary ... moreHello again,
From what I could find, Nokia 8, all Razer phones, Sharp and Sony phones (also made by Foxconn, just like older iPhones) seem to use displays from JDI (Joint venture of Sony, Sharp and Hitachi) so their displays may have a blue and neon-like tint to them. A temporary workaround I can suggest is to use wallpapers with brown/red/yellow hues. Please let me know if it works for you.

Anyway I'm just holding onto this phone as my primary until I can get something better, I plan to purchase either a Razer Phone 2 or a Xiaomi Mi 6 as my last resorts. The main reason I look at both of these phones is because they are IPS with 16:9 aspect ratios, no PWM induced headaches or stupid rounded corners.
Neither of them have a 3.5mm headphone jack so that's a negative in comparison to Nokia 8. But I am leaning towards the Razer Phone because it has that 120Hz refresh rate display which should be insanely smooth whilst scrolling.

Minu, 31 Jul 2021Oh I thought you returned it since you don't like the ... moreNah I couldn't return it because I bought it second hand. Well I was planning to sell the phone, but my ZUK Z2 because so unbearable that I had no choice to switch to this phone. Performance is a lot better on the Nokia. It's weird about the colour balance setting being a regional thing.
Yeah, so I found out there is a new tool that can unlock the bootloader for free on the TechMastro website. So I did that and it worked, cool! At first I tried the Android 11 custom ROMs but I had some troubles with encryption so I switched back to the stock ROM. And then I flashed the AIO boot image which gave me Magisk and a custom kernel so I could adjust the display colours with EX Kernel Manager.
I also have heating troubles like someone else mentioned. The back gets very hot to touch whilst gaming especially when the weather outside is warmer. Battery is not good, see the comment I made earlier today about that?

P650SE, 13 Jul 2021Well after keeping this phone in storage for several months... moreOh I thought you returned it since you don't like the display. Surprisingly the colour balance setting is region dependent. Btw how did you install custom kernels and downclock the CPU? And how is battery life for you?
