I started using nokia phones in 2004 with 1100, 3220,5700, 5800 n86 etc. In case of sound clarity i love my 5700 which iam using for the last 5 years without any compliant. Iam expecting same sound clarity from 808 also.

It is a simple phone and it's not even in asha series. For what it is, is quite a nice phone and has quite allot of futures. So, for a spare phone, i'd say it is enough. now, what to recommend to you in your budget, i really don't know. Maybe you have to save some more if you want a better one, like 206. There are plenty cheap Nokia's like: 100, 101, 103, C1-00, C1-02:) but i'm guessing you are not interested. If you want a recommendation... i don't know. I haven't used mobile phones since 2005, and even then i used them just for a while then i came back to smartphones:)).

Symbian is (officially) dead. Fine. But why all the biggest names in mobile phones market decided to produce both Android and Windows Phone mobile devices, and Nokia didn't? Why Nokia hates Android so much? Is Android that bad?

think this phone good in only good looks and
nokia forgot to add features to it ,
no wharsapp as per users
no torch
no fm without headset
no usb port
no vdo steaming
my budget $50 maximum.

symbian is officially murderd by Mr. elop and Nokia is on its way to suicide. wp- Nokia deal is only benificial to wp os not for nokia. I'm sure microsoft pays more money to Mr. elop compared to what Nokia pays. been as Nokia ceo mr.elop's work is always questionable from day one. if we have a look on elop decision as Nokia ceo you can understand what I want to say. in 2010 elop announced to discontinue symbian ( having highest smartphone share about 31%) for WP7 having market share less than 1% at that time. remember Nokia world -2010, Nokia showcased flexible device like kinetic , humanform and some futuristic concepts like morph. where is those magical devices, am sure if Nokia continued with symbian we can have a few flexible symbian based pureview devise which can rule smartphones. elop killed meego and meltemi a low end smartphone os from Nokia. still taking some decisions against Nokia in favour of wp os like Nokia exclusive app to all wp device like Nokia maps, Nokia drive and more. I'm sure even worse time for Nokia is just ahead in 2nd and third quarter of 2013 when Microsoft will launch its own wp8 device punching Nokia face.

Finally some good news for Nokia: the struggling smartphone maker has squeaked out a profit of €439m in the fourth quarter of 2012, after shipping 4.4m Lumia handsets.
The company also said it reached "underlying" profit for the year - meaning it would have been profitable for 2012 were it not for special charges, including restructuring costs.
The results come as the company ramps up Lumia sales. Nokia shipped 4.4m of the Windows Phone smartphones in Q4, overtaking Symbian's 2.2m. Last quarter, Nokia shipped 2.9m Lumias and 3.4m Symbian devices.
Its Asha line of low-end smartphones, targeted at emerging markets, was even more successful, shipping 9.3m.
Europe had the best revenue for Nokia's devices and services arm, bringing in €1.2bn over the quarter, but North America was the only regional segment to post on-year growth - and it was a whopping 270% to €196m.

The update is headed for Nokia OS devices including the Nokia 808 PureView, 701, 700 and 603. The PureView will also get some extra imaging and gallery features.
As for other changes - the user interface will get a new swipe to unlock, the camera UI will get a refresh, while the navigation bar, widgets and transition effects all get minor tweaks. The keyboard will now offer word completion and predictive text input. The web browser is also updated and comes with an improved JavaScript engine for better performance.
The update is available through Nokia Suite and owners of the eligible devices should be getting the update notification any moment now.

Pushing the phone's software to version 113.010.1508, the update is 420MB in size and is available through PC Suite.
Despite its size, the update is described to only bring "improved performance and features". Some people might be disappointed, but the update still counts, as it would reportedly make the phone handle better in day to day use.
To check if your 808 PureView has the update waiting for it, hook it up to your PC, start PC Suite and check for updates.

We all knew this was eventually coming, but it's now official. Symbian on Nokia is dead.
Nokia managed to send off the once might platform in style. The 808 PureView will go down in history as the last Symbian device by the Finnish manufacturer.
Nokia announced the news alongside its great Q4 results today, which showed $585 million profit and $10.83 billion in revenue.
During our transition to Windows Phone through 2012, we continued to ship devices based on Symbian. The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia.
Symbian OS on Nokia devices has played a key part in the smartphone game over the past ten years, but its significance was severely reduced once the touchscreen revolution started. Some of the most notable phones to come out of Nokia were powered by Symbian - beginning with the 9210 Communicator. The Nokia E61 started a messenger phone hype that peaked with the E71, making Symbian OS the only viable competitor to the then-strong BlackBerry portfolio of messengers.
Then came the cameraphone era, which gave birth to devices like the Nokia N95, which was widely regarded as the king of the smartphone hill in its day. The Nokia N8 came at a time when Symbian was rapidly sliding into irrelevancy but still made a huge splash among camera-lovers with its large sensor and superb image quality. Heck we loved snapping photos with it and it's still the most popular smartphone in our database with over 25 million hits.
Nokia began a shift towards Windows Phone in the beginning of 2011 and starting now Redmond's mobile OS is Nokia's only smartphone platform.

I think all you guys have read the sad news. As i was expected, Nokia will not release another Symbian device. So the mighty 808 is the last of Symbian. Nokia announced today and confirmed that from today Symbian has a last hero. When this is said, you can call it dead. Unfortunately, our beloved OS will grow old and die and there is no one to save it. Unless Nokia does something :(.

As i was saying, Nokia care center flashes your device with this tool when you go to them for an upgrade or what ever problem you have. First they wil fix with this tool, and if after this still doesn't work, they look for a hardware problem. But if you don't feel save it is ok, i understand. As for your question... that i don't quite know. When i upgraded my n8 from anna to belle. i Got all the factory apps back, but when i upgraded from belle to belle refresh. I had nothing. I could not bring my default apps and all the stuff back. So from that day, i don't use Nokia suite to update my phones, or to fix them, anymore:). you can try, but if you don't want to upgrade to fp2. This will be the best thing you can do. Flash your original fp1 with phoenix:)
