think some coments here are mostly right.. a phone like this to produce takes about 150 EU..there are some extra cost like advertising and for designin' the first 8800.. they probably did the sirocco because they allready had an previous model and thats makes theyr mork a little simplier than make it from scrach..and like moto raz they lower the price because they wanted a motorola in every poket.. and they did it.. and win big money ..that's just a strategy to make money and earn a name in phone industry..nokia adopt a nother techniq..every owner of one 8800 or a sirocco too feal special..and not dissapointin' them lowerin' the price.also...this will give assurance to nokia owners that when they pay 1000$ they won't see the phone after 1-2 months at half price

To everyone who decided to pay me out!!!!!
Especially the knob who thinks he is a freak just after my comment.

Firstly the 8800 has not been released in Australia yet so I dont know specifics on this model but I can only go by what GSMarena is telling me!
    Quote:
    Display Type TFT, 256K colors
    Size 208 x 208 pixels
    - SCRATCH-RESTISTANT GLASS
    - Downloadable wallpapers, screensavers

Check it out for yourself! Scratch restistant glass. Sorry I am not into what makes up the glass. I bet you fornicate over this phone ey?

In terms of prices.... are you forgetting to convert to whatever currency you use? The K610i we sell for $350 Australian dollars.
    YES I SAID WE SELL!!!
I DO work in the industry! If you are gonna pay out on Aussies and our market, and you doubt what I say, why dont you leave your commune (you hippy) get on an aeroplane and come down to "the most livable city in the world" and see me at my mobile phone shop. Then, just for making the effort to come down here... I will smack ya head in!!!
You are a dead set smart A#s.
You did not prove me wrong in any way!
I still stand by my word!
You are all entitled to your opion and so am I! Get over it! This is a forum. No one needs to cry!

BY the way.... Richard Buchanan you rock!!!

Before anyone buys the 8800 Sirocco i would say take a look at the Silver one and look at the back as the back is White and does not look at all good. The black one is good looking and a nice phone. :)

          Hi guys,
Today I have “played” with 8800Sirocco for about 40 minutes and I have following opinion about it:
          Positive:
          - Yes it is better equipped / camera, memory/ in comparison with the original 8800
          - Yes the keyboard is a bit easier to use in comparison with the original 8800
          - Yes the battery is slightly bigger, but I don’t thing this will affect the battery life that much
          Negative:
          - I don’t like the design; this is personal issue but…I truly believe that the original 8800 looks better
          - Build quality is the most critical point to me, honestly to me the Sirocco is not the same as the original 8800, to me it is clear that used materials are not the same.
          - The metal parts are completely polished and look extremely dirty in few minutes’ usage only
Conclusion – perfect marketing product of Nokia, they create a real story based on 8800 and now they simply came out with the same product, but lower production costs. In order to add some additional value they have included Bluetooth, letter case, but believe me, this things cost nothing if you have order thousand pieces of them to the Chinese suppliers…
By the way the regular retail price in Bulgaria is 1100 Euro.
Based on my conclusion I went directly into the shop that have offered to me 8800 Special Addition for less than 600 Euro and I took it immediately. By the way the sound / ringtones and build in handsfree / of the Special Edition is a bit louder than the original 8800. Both are with firmware V 4.10 RM-13
          Regards to all 8800 users

"Please, can anybody tell me why this Mobile is so costly?"

because nokia's marketshare is built on a foundation of cheap phones flourishing throughout the world. they balance this with highly profitable handsets such as 8800SE where insecure people with expendable cash pay $1,299.00 for a phone that probably costs nokia $150 to construct.

the 8800 was created as a status symbol as nokia in the minds of many look like the "cheap candybar" company. just what the razr was for motorola. difference is that motorola drops price with rise in demand while nokia keeps 8800 inflated so these same insecure rich people can feel like they own something special.

of course it's not just for insecure rich people but also lower class folk who want to look like an insecure rich person when talking on it.

                      Adam, you quote :-

"In Australia it retails between $350 - $400 AUD! The Sirocco is not even out yet but I am hearing rumors of something around the $1300 US and $1000 Euro!!! How can you justify that for a scratch restistant glass and stainless steel cover???
I work in the industry! We sell Nokia and SE! I have no problem with Nokia."

                      My feedback :-

First of all, the prices you quote for the SE 610 & the rumor Nokia 8800 Sirocco is 20 % to 30 % over world market price. Maybe it is easy to rip off Australian!

Secondly, you quote that you work in the industry, I doubt what you said.......because Nokia 8800 Sirocco does not use scratch resistant glass as you said, instead, they use sapphire crystal(the original 8800 use scratch resistance glass).....exactly what they use in the Vertu phones.

me personally i didnt buy this phone so i would think people would think i was rich not at all,i bought it cuz i like the look and feel of the phone.
Yeah you are right it is expensive and it doesnt perform very well function wise, my d900 performs alot better in every aspect but it doesnt look or feel as nice.
i,m really happy with this phone yeah it does have it flaws i admit and there is no vast improvement over the original.
this phone is for people who just want to use there phone to make calls and text thats all i need it for. I've got my ipod video and my digital camera to do the rest

To the comment 3 before this one..............
I wasn't comparing this phone to a ferarri.... I was saying that this phone is NOT like a ferarri because it only has the looks. It does not perform!!!
More proof that this phone is way overpriced...........
Do yourself a favour and compare the Sony Ericsson K610 and the 8800 Sirocco!!!!
You may be surprised! Mostly the same features but the SE has even more!!!
Both 2MP, Both have bluetooth, same screen res, USB, but the K610 has 3G, upgradable memory, triple the battery life......
How much is this SE phone???
In Australia it retails between $350 - $400 AUD! The Sirocco is not even out yet but I am hearing rumors of something around the $1300 US and $1000 Euro!!! How can you justify that for a scratch restistant glass and stainless steel cover???
I work in the industry! We sell Nokia and SE! I have no problem with Nokia. I just cant stand people ranting about this phone and how "this is a rich persons phone!" like rich people rule the world. This is not a rich persons phone! It is for people who want to seem rich to others! So while you are all walking around 'looking rich' and all, I will be walking around with that extral thousand in my back pocket spending it on something worthwhile!!!!!

If you want the phone only for the look and drawing other people attention and just make+receive call and ofcourse don't mind paying Usd1300.00 then this Sirocco is for you but if you want to pay a lot less for a real phone which does eveything which people are asking ang expecting then go somewhere else.Dont know why someone compared this with car like Fer coz Fer has everything from look to perfomances but this Sirocco only has the look but got no performances at all,it doesn't even make you feel comfortable while texting.I think it's time for Nokia's studio drawing something different and exciting not just using a same phone, changing it a little bit and give it a fancy name(less than 6 months=black 8800+gold 8800+Aston matin+Sirocco+etc, may be another month we'll see something like CK'8800 in Pink).

i've had this phone for a month and sold it..i've got the n93..and this phone realy takes peoples eyes..somebody post here and compare it with a ferrari..i prefer a ferrari onestly..but a fer. is just a supreme car.. is not even stilish is a sport car.. with real aptitudes..i stilish car is a bentley for example..so my opinion is that at this price the manufacturers could done a real stilish design with some gold..real gold case..white..yelow..etc..and Vertu is another storye ..because that realy is a stilish phone..and 8800si for what for a stainless cover...and a 2mpx cam..if they realy wanted a simple yet stilish phone.. they throw the camera .mp3.and put a irda a bluetooth a 16 mil dislplay a realy stilish covers a lot of memory and in a little package..that's my opinion for an simple yet stilish phone..
