Anyway, i know HMD were among the first that wanted to ship in India, we'll see. I do not mind paying a bit more, as long as the workers are fair paied and the company has principles, but well, that is me. Yeah, i know about sirroco. Nokia 8 is still on amazon tough...

So Nokia is sticking with this price huh? At LG Velvet, user are calling off around 400-500 price, While myself personally can accept up to 550 max. But for Nokia, 400 Euro is the most I'm willing to fork for the locked bootloader. That alone deserve 100 Euro off for the long committed sin.

This would be good value if they made it a high refresh rate 1440p display, added even faster charging, and reverse wireless charging.

Carol, 11 May 20201. I do not know who did Nokia 9. Mine was made in China. I... moreThe main reason as to why the Nokia 8 Sirroco is not available in your country, is because the imported units are out of stock. Nokia is not importing anymore in your country. The main reason why the same phone is available in India is because like all smartphones the 8 Sirroco is manufactured locally by Foxconn India under contract from Nokia India. So these manufacturing plants may had surplus stocks which they were not able to sale locally or the demand was not that high to export and clear the stock globally. Hence the once 750 euro Nokia flagship is currently available at 1/3rd the price of 250 euros in India. And it will go even lower below 200 euros when I may buy one.

Carol, 11 May 20201. I do not know who did Nokia 9. Mine was made in China. I... moreThe manufacturing plant details like name and address can be found on the retail box of your Nokia 9. All currently available smartphones in India are assembled locally and sold with the only exception being Apple. But that too is soon going to change for Apple. China giant Foxconn have their own manufacturing plants across India and all 2018 & some 2019 Nokia models were manufactured locally by Foxconn India. Hence my Nokia 7 Plus & Nokia 6.1 comes from Foxconn India.

For the last few years Indian government have started the "Made in India" initiative to drag manufacturing from China by giving manufacturers huge tax benefits. Even Chinese manufacturers have their own plants in India. That why all android smartphones are cheaper than elsewhere (take recent OnePlus models as an example) while Apple products are more expense as import duties of complete units are very high here. All Chinese manufacturers are omni-present here and they all say India is 5 years behind China from complete smartphone manufacturing standpoint while having huge future potential.

All smartphone companies apart from China prefer India as our judicial system is stronger and more transparent. Technology patients are given full respect and copy cats are strictly condemned. Moreover ours is a secular country, everybody has the right to say. So all European, American, South Korean & Japanese companies feel more secure in India. The only thing that is holding us back is component level production. We make some important parts like battery, display, wall chargers, plastic phone bodies etc but still fully kitted smartphone PCBs are from China. It will take another 5 years to make 100% production in-house. With the onset of global pandemic global technology leaders like USA, Japan & South Korea are more active to shift all their factories from China to India (due to various political reasons, lets not delve into it). And the future potential of our country is very strong. Samsung recently inaugurated world's largest mobile factory in India. So they know the future of smartphone manufacturing belongs to India with a strong judicial system in place.

Sometimes I feel sad that Europeans, South Koreans and Americas have to pay high prices for smartphones which are considerably cheaper in India as they are manufactured locally. Nokia, Oneplus etc are manufacturing these phones from India or China and you guys have to pay high import duties and taxes inflating the prices. Here in India we are spoilt of choices, so many companies and so many smartphones. Sometimes there are 10 smartphone launches in a week. Our tech reviewers in YouTube says smartphone are now like daily vegetables in India, with so many options we forget brands and their models. On the positive side though smartphones are dirt cheap in India especially after an year of release with such a high level of competition in place.

RishiGuru, 11 May 2020"I can't say one that is more scandinavian, because they al... more1. I do not know who did Nokia 9. Mine was made in China. I have heard tough, a lot of Nokia that sell in India are Locally made, is that true?
                2. Nokia 7.2 might be having a plastic frame but don't let yourself tricked into thinking it feels cheap, as it does not. the Glass sandwich and the plastic frame are actually tough enough to not bend and brake like early iphones.
                3. Audio dongle does not bother me too much, is a bit annoying when charging, but luckily Nokia 9 is wireless charging able, so mitigating the Problem.
                4. Sirroco. I really can't tell you what to buy, as is not in my nature. Al i can say is that the cpu is there, android 10 is there camera is good and screen is good. If you like the device it is worth it as it is not a plastic toy like many of them in that price range, and after all will have great performance for the price. The only thing i did not like at that device was the banded screen, i kind of hate them. But if that does not bother you it is a solid buy. in my opinion. Here is the device nowhere to be found anymore.

Carol, 10 May 2020Hey, yeah, they are a good bang for buck, especially the ol... more"I can't say one that is more scandinavian, because they all are, Nokia 8 a typical lumia design with the long camera in the middle, thin and with big bazels, and nokia 9 an
'i dare to be uniqe' design that stand right up there with lumia 1020 or the mighty 808. The sirroco does not quite fall into the nokia design portofolio, a not that Nokia design, but still, holding it in your hands, you kind of know is not a samsung nor a chinese device. It has that something, i don't know what, but all old Nokia devices had it, and the new ones somehow have it to. It is strange but you know it is a Nokia, if that makes any sense."

-- I can very well understand what you are trying to mean. Holding Nokia 7 Plus or Nokia 6.1 in my hand gives a kind of reassuring feel which is hard to omit, a sense of inherent quality and purity in design which is very hard to describe but very easy to identify/ feel even with eyes closed. I believe this is due to their inherent material first led design which is almost non-existent in other brands.

"They all can withstand stress and daily use is pretty much nothing for them. However when it comes to the body, out of them 3, nokia 9 is more on the sensitive side, the 8 is rock solid, sirroco the same, if you ignore the backglass (but keep in mind, i never had sirroco, it is my opinion after testing it a bit). As for performance, nokia 9 beats them, but you don't feal it that much when you upgrade, you will feal it if you go back to the older ones, tough."

-- I also expected the same, Nokia 8 is the toughest as it follows the structural design pattern first pioneered in Nokia 6 (2017) and subsequently used in Nokia 5, 5.1, 6.1, 7 Plus and Nokia 8 throughout 2017 & 2018. These are all billeted aluminum uni-body designs with an internal metal plate bolted to the body. Creates a all metal rectangular slab like hollow structure with phenomenal level of structural integrity and hence these phones will not budge a millimetre. These phones own many most durable phone of the year awards.

When Juho Sarvikas, CPO of Nokia was asked of his favorite Nokia in 2018 he promptly replied it was the Nokia 7 Plus and not the 8 Sirocco. Mine is also the same as I believe it is the epitome of this design. As for 8 Sirocco, Nokia wanted to attain a 2 mm side, hence steel was used instead of aluminium as the back will be glass. The most unique feature about 8 Sirocco internal design is the 2 mm thick steel plate is a structural element and runs throughout the body as the load bearing structure making this phone maybe the toughest dual glass sandwich phone ever made. However glass backs will shatter easily as glass is not as resilient as metal. According to Juho it will take the weight of three grown men, before the 8 Sirroco will break. All these phones were made by Foxconn.

The Nokia 9 is more of a traditional design, like all other glass sandwich phones out there just like recent Nokia 8.3. Performance wise sure the Nokia 9 is the king with the latest Snapdragon processor under the hood. Are the Nokia 9 made by Foxconn?

"Tricky question, out of all Nokia releases, the most complete one in my opinion, would be nokia 7.2. It has a great camera, good performance, good battery, great display, Headphones jack, card slot (one has to use high speed cards, the newer batches of sd mmc's) and premium design at a quite lower price. It was bashed by a lot of wannabe reviewers because of the cpu, but in reality it is actually a great all- rounder that brings a lot of quality and good support in under 300 euros world."

-- It's no doubt Nokia 7.2 is a good design, but it was launched at very high prices in our country and still the price is on the higher side. The phone sure looks premium but the plastic body does not interest me a lot as the older Nokia's. You see specifications alone cannot buy me. But yeah Nokia's are good all-rounders for sure. Just before the onset of the pandemic in March, 2020 the Nokia 8 Sirocco was available in India for 250 euros. I thought about it but instead vouched for a LG V30+ at 145 euros brand new. The V30+ was selling for 740 euros two years back, so a great deal and bought it in a heartbeat.

"I find that all of them i used or tested (configured) had almost the same quality when using headphones, never spotted a huge difference. As for the Speaker i really do not have an answer, as for me, all phones have a sound that i do not really appreciate, so i never listened to music and probably will never do it in the future, on the phones speakers. I like base and guitars, so for me anything with lower quallity then JBL extreme, is not something my ears would appreciate."

-- Does using the audio dongle on Nokia 9 bothers you? It sure bothers me a lot. I cannot find a reason why Nokia ditched the ever so convenient audio jack on Nokia 9. The inbuilt speaker like you said is not so important for me also but does denote how loud the ringtone will sound. I hope they are loud enough. What are your thoughts on a 250 euros Nokia 8 Sirroco? If available should I get it? And is it a value for money at that price as of today?

"As i do not own the device, i cannot tell you very much about it. It is a really nice designed device and feals premium. As from my niece perspecrive (she ownes it for more then a year now, almost two i think) The nokia 7.1 is the only device she did not change after a year, so she is pretty much satisfied with it, it also has no charging issues, as i have heard manny complained. If you want a great camera tough or a better scren, take a look at Nokia 7.2. If you want compact and metal frame, i would say, nokia 7.1 is a great device for the money you pay this days. With also a great premium body to be found on high end devices only."

-- Hmm.. so the Nokia 7.1 is more of a premium design, but for everything else Nokia 7.2 is better. Your comments have been very helpful to me. It comes from someone who have used Nokia devices extensively for a long time and know what Nokia's should be. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.

nokia should improve in the specs of nokia 8.3 5G in the aspect of battery, and camera we should see somthing like 104megapixle back camera and 48 mp front camera........ Am I saying something..........

As you have dealt with so many Nokias, will love to hear answers of my few questions:

                        1) Between Nokia 8 (not 8 Sirocco) and Nokia 9 which do you think sticks more to its Scandinavian roots, I mean design & simplicity in aesthetics?
                        2) Which one of the above two do you think is the more robust offering and have more internal strength to withstand daily use?
                        3) Which do you think is a more complete Nokia, barring the specs side?
                        4) Which one have better sound quality, both speaker & headphones?

Also would love to know you thoughts about Nokia 7.1. That phone interests me a lot.

Foxconn manufactured what HMD designed, HMD had the say at every part of the manufacturing process. Hence HMD is more liable for this issue. The sub PCB board to which usb female port was soldered had no issues, it's just that the soldering was not done right and the pins of female port detached from the PCB. Resoldering fixed it. But the port needed to be more robust and bolted with the chassis. It was a design issue.

Saying all that I am proud owner of Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1. Heard about this issue from the beginning and used to Usb ports with care. No issues reported by me till date.

Anonymous, 01 May 2020Stop your nonsense i have Nokia 6 2017 older then your phon... moreAgree. Nokia's 2018 lineup were the best. The trio of Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus & Nokia 8 Sirocco where pure Nokias. A material first led design with good specs. And of-course the original Nokia 8 of 2017.

To me Nokia 6.1 is a masterpiece in craftsmanship just like my Nokia 7 Plus. Nokia 6.1's body is carved out for a single block of 6000 series aluminum to start with. It takes a hour to mill out the body from the block. There is no stamped metal parts for decoration here. In the next 10 hours it goes through the unique two tone anodization process. First the phone is dipped in an anodization pool where the bare aluminium uni-body receives the desired color, for my Nokia 6.1 it's blue. Then a cutter is used to shave the blue anodized aluminium on its both edges, creating the unique diamond cut edges. A second layer of anodization process is then applied on the diamond cut edges to have the desired edge colors in my case gold color. Thus the two tone Blue/Gold anodization process gets completed. The phone uni-body is then polished 5 times for roughly 2 hours to provide the incredible satin like feel in hand. Entire process takes over 13 hours to complete.

A die cast metal mid-frame is then screwed internally to the metal body which reinforces the core of the device. No less than 19 screws locks the internal metal plate to this uni-body which gives Nokia 6.1 it ultimate structural integrity & durability. This is an approach to engineering that is build to last. A Scandinavian design focusing on quality, design & craftsmanship with an incredible attention to detail. After all great engineering deserves bold designs just like Nokia 6.1.

No wonder it won prestigious smartphone design awards in 2018 like from the Chicago Athenaeum: Musuem of Architecture & Design and also one of the most durable phone of of 2018 by JerryRigsEverything.

It is pity smartphones of this design caliber & internal strength are not produced anymore. Not even by Nokia. I love my Nokia 6.1 & Nokia 7 Plus.
