AM, 15 Mar 2010Hi I changed my battery after 2 years of heavy usage say at... moreTo AM:

I always prefer charging cellular phone batteries when they are completely empty. I believe it preserves the longevity of the battery.

With my E51, sometimes I cannot help but charge it before it's empty...based on the circumstances surrounding me at the time. To make up for that, what I do from time to time is re-condition the battery...the process known when you get a new battery and do an overnight charge for the first time (conditioning of the battery).

Even though the phone is dead there's normally a little power left in the battery but not enough to do anything much with the phone. To completely discharge the battery (so you can re-condition it), once the phone reports the battery as being empty and automatically shuts off...hold down the power key which may or may not power on back the phone (depending on how weak the battery is). If the phone powers back on keeping calling your voicemail until the phone shuts off.

Once again hold down the power button and if the phone starts up again, call your voicemail again. Keep repeating this until the battery gets so weak the phone refuses to power on. After the phone refuses to power on, pressing the power button again should light up the display sensor while the screen remains blank. Keep pressing the power button down until the light sensor indicator light stop coming on. This may take a few minutes.

Once the xenon light from the sensor stops coming on then plug in the charger and let it charge until phone says battery is full or you can simply leave it to charge overnight. This is known as re-conditioning the battery.

If you people are talking about the E51's earpiece speaker above the screen and not the loudspeaker at the back of the phone you have nothing to worry about because the earpiece volume is very loud. The mesh covering can easily make it sound low because of dust and other debris that can easily build up.

When I first got the E51 the earpiece volume was really loud. On average I would keep the volume on 2 or 3 out of 10! The only time I needed to max the volume was when I was on a very busy street or major commercial areas and no matter how noisy the environment was, I would be able to hear the other person clearly. However, a few months later all that changed. I had to struggle to hear the other person and I wondered how could such a loud speaker get low just like that. It was later on I realised it wasn't the speaker but the mesh which covered it.

If you use a damp paper towel and wipe/clean the mesh across then you should notice a difference but after time that may not help and in that case just take out the mesh covering. You can use tweezers or any thing slim enough to get between the earpiece speaker and just pull it out. Believe you me, you will learn the true power of the speaker after that.

Ive had an E51 for about 12 months now and managed a fleet of around 150. Very solid phone but a couple of major problems, the rubber on/off switch breaks very easily, there are intermittent faults with the keypad. apart from the usual such as they dont like water or being dropped, I would steer well clear unless you can get one with a solid on / off button.

I currently have 17 faulty units to go bak under warranty, not bad out of 150 !

You are welcomed my friend. I have no problem answering any query you may have.

Congrats on your wonderful acquisition...owning the E51.

If you are impressed now, wait until you dig in deeper and see how rich in functionality it is.

The E51 is a no-nonsense, fully loaded, compact and very smart business phone.

And as the reviews say, even though it's aimed at business it's NOT only for business as it has all the bells and whistles to make it ideal for pleasure too.

Nokia themselves said it, "fully loaded with features to help you balance your busy and leisure life".

Keep me posted and feel free to ask me anything. Take care.

I'm now a proud owner of E51. What can I say? A truly spectacular mobile phone, I see why it's so popular. It's slim, stylish, the OS works like a charm, I've tested WLAN - I'm impressed. Thank you for your advice.

I've recently bought Nokia E51 handset. as far as the look and shape is concerned its really a smart phone but I judged a couple of problems into it.
1- the speaker volume is very low even it is 100% of its capacity.
2- the rubber made buttons are of very low quality, that are going to be vanish in few days of use.
3- It is not supporting in downloading and installing new themes and applications.
4- when I change my secondry sim to master sin the calls data remains saved but when i go to secondry sim from my master sim it goes out.
Plz help me regardin last two issues.

                                    Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970To Aciduzzu:

The way I see it, comparing the E51 to the 6303 is a bad idea.

First of all, the E51 is s60 (series 60 - Symbian operating system) while the 6303 is s40 (series 40 - Nokia's proprietary operating system). Symbian functions more like a computer whereas s40 is a basic OS (Operating System) resulting in lesser functionality for people who would love to have it all (like myself).

With s60 phones, like the E51, you can manipulate internal features and add extra ones.

Manipulation - eg. By default the phone beeps when recording a phone call. You can install a 3rd party program which will override the default recorder and quietly record a phone call so the other person won't know you are recording them.

Extra Features - eg. You can install a 3rd party program which will allow you to Blacklist anybody who's annoying you. You can set the program to reject calls or texts from any incoming numbers. You can also tell the program to reject unknown numbers (numbers which aren't in your phone book) and also tell it to block private numbers from calling. Very powerful software. Handy Blacklist is a very good one. I tried it and loved it.

So as you can see series 60 phones like the E51 is very similar to PCs. It has an open platform allowing you can manipulate internal features and add new ones...something the 6303 will never be able to do.

Apart from that the 6303 is terrible where connectivity is concerned...Quote from GSMArena's review: "The Nokia 6303 classic connectivity options are considered low-end by today's standards". The only thing the 6303 has is GPRS/EDGE and bluetooth.

Now check out the difference with the E51's review: Quote from GSMArena's

"Connectivity is a strong side of E-series

Transferring data is what Nokia E51 really likes to do. Just name the data transfer medium and you can be certain that this handset supports it. MiniUSB v2.0 and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP profile support and IrDA (115 kbps) just start the count. All kinds of network connectivity are also supported - from GPRS and EDGE to 3G with HSDPA support - Nokia E51 has it all. To complete the wireless communication tally, Wi-Fi 802.11g with VoIP over WLAN support is also on board. Even the card slot for microSD cards (up to 4GB supported) is here."

So as you can see the E51 leaves the 6303 in the dust...even though the 6303 was released one and a half years after the E51.

If I were you I would go for the E51, there are so many more advantages but I think I have said enough. So it all boils down to this...if you want a basic phone go for 6303. If you want a workhorse powerhouse bells and whistles phone go for the E51.

Let me know which phone you decided to go for.

I have my E51 since July 2008, nearly two years now and all my rubber buttons are still intact. On Christmas Eve, for the first, the side buttons lifted out of place but I pressed it back in and it has stayed in since up to now.

Many people complain about the rubber buttons being hard to press. For me they are easy enough to press and I find my power button really easy to press. The trick with the power button is to press it more to the right than center or left. My power buttons respond marvellously.
