AM, 23 Feb 2010Hi can anyone suggest a solution to my problem: I am using ... moreTo AM:

That is not a software problem. The problem is with the mesh covering over the earpiece speaker. Overtime it gets clogged with dirt and whatever else decides to get into it. You can clean it with a damp paper towel or cloth etc. which should make it more audible but for me it got so bad I had to remove the mesh completely and now the earpiece is as loud as ever. Also, it does not make the E51 look ugly...it adds a nicer look to it in my opinion.

Clean it first and see the result or simply remove the mesh and never have to worry about cleaning again. You can clean the mesh using a tweezers or pin etc.

Please let me know the outcome.

Hi can anyone suggest a solution to my problem: I am using my E51 for the last 2 years and now I use Talkonaut to make Google Voice calls on my mobile and when the calls are made the voice quality is very feeble. Although the other party can hear me properly I am unable to hear and had to strain and keep the phone close to my ear..this is inspite of the volume control being kept in full.

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2010Same problems. solutions? To Anonymous with the long menu wait...please use a proper name so you can be referred to by that name.

I would recommend you format your E51 and in regards to formatting you NEED TO BACK UP FIRST!!!

There are no ifs and buts about it, once you format your E51 you will lose EVERYTHING.

First of all you can back up your entire phone contents which includes (Contacts, Text Messages, Notes, Calendar data etc.) to your Memory Card.

Go to MENU, TOOLS, MEMORY CARD, OPTIONS, BACKUP PHONE MEMORY.

For me this procedure takes 38 seconds on average because I mainly store my stuff on my memory card.

All my messaging (Text Messages & E-Mail), all my photos and video clips and all my voice recordings are on my memory card. This makes my phone memory as free as possible.

Once everything is backed up you can format your phone and rest assured you will get back everything.

There are two ways to format.

                              1. Key in *#7370# in standby mode (easier method)

                              2. Turn off the phone, press and hold green dial key + number 3 on keypad + asterik key (*) and finally the power button. You need to hold down ALL 4 keys simultaneously (POWER, DIAL KEY, 3 and *). While the phone powers on WITH YOU HOLDING DOWN ALL KEYS keep holding the keys until you are prompted to enter your country.

Step 1 is much easier right ? Well it is but I noticed that using step 2 I actually regained 2MB additional internal memory compared to step 1.

When you do step 1 you should have 125MB free and in doing step 2 you should have 127MB. It doesn't matter that much but thought I would mention it (smile).

Now, after formatting your phone using either step 1 or step 2, to retrieve back all your data simply use the instructions I gave you earlier to BACKUP your data BUT instead of choosing BACKUP PHONE MEMORY, select RESTORE FROM CARD. ***Make sure you do this part carefully because if you should accidentally select BACKUP PHONE MEMORY again, all your data is gone out the door!!!!!!***

Having done all this I hope you will see a difference in phone's behaviour.

Tell you what though...BEFORE doing any of the above...please take out your BATTERY, SIM and MEMORY CARD out of phone for at least 1 hour.

In taking out the battery for a certain time period the phone will do a quiet reset and when you turn it back on it will ask you to set the date and time.

Even though the battery is the main priority, I normally take out my SIM and MEMORY CARD as well because it doesn't hurt to do so.

Please let me know the outcome after you try my suggestions.

I'm always happy to help so don't be afraid to ask.

P.S. If you are a member of Nokia's OVI service you can also backup to Nokia's server as well using the technology called SYNCML. You will find the SYNC feature in the TOOLS category of your E51's menu.
Before you can use this feature you have to set up your phone on OVI's site...afterwhich you will receive a text message from OVI and all you have to do is open the message select OPTIONS then SAVE. Once you do that you can go to MENU - TOOLS - SYNC anytime and backup to the OVI server.

For the record I backup my data to OVI and ZYB.
OVI backs up CONTACTS, NOTES and CALENDAR DATA
                              ZYB only backs up CONTACTS.

                                Brad, 15 Feb 2010Dear Original Jamaican: I m using E.51 since long and i m ... moreTo BRAD:

All the phones you listed are great smart phones and isn't an easy choice to make. Thank you very much for asking me such a simply question (smile).

Well it all boils down to what you want the most.

I will cut to the chase and tell you that more than likely I would choose the E72.

The E72 is the weighs the least so it will be lighter in your pocket or on your waist but it also has the least memory. Both the N97 and N900 have 32GB while the E72 has 250MB. The E72 is the slimmest of the three which is another advantage in making it more portable but the screen is also smaller. The E72 has a faster processor than the N97 but the N900 matches the E72 processing speed...so where CPU is concerned the N97 gets left behind.

The E72 gives you the LONGEST battery life...6 hours more of talk time compared to the N900 and 3 hours more talk time compared to the N97.

The SAR value is higher for the E72 compared to the other two but that's not too big a deal to fuss about.

The N900 doesn't support Java and let's face it, it some point in time we come across useful Java apps so that's a let down. The N900 also doesn't support MMS which is another let down, you never know when you will need to take a quick photo and send it to someone...even though I suppose the N900's e-mail could be a solution for that.

Just like the E51, the E72 has built in Wireless printing and is NOT dependent on bluetooth printers...which basically separates the E-Series from other smart phones.

Well apart from the differences I mentioned, everything is pretty much the same...same camera, same video recording, HCSD memory card slot, same speed GPRS/EDGE etc. But it worthy to note that the N900 has a different OS, Maemo which is based on Linux and it may not be easy getting apps for this as it is for Symbian...so personally I would hold off the N900 for a while until it's more stabilised and development expands.

Even though it's a lot of reading, read the reviews for all three. If you have read them already check out the advantages and disadvantages on the first page of the reviews and see which you can live with and which you can't. You are investing good money into any of these phones so try to make a choice you won't regret

All in all I think the E-series stand out in more ways than one and I always say you can't go wrong with an E-series...so even though it's not a very easy choice, I would go with the E72.

Once again, the E-Series is noted for being reliable and more practical than the average smart phone.

Please let me know which choice you made and tell me what inspired you to make that choice. Good luck with your decision.
