This is a very common context error, as most people use the term interchangeably to the point that it becomes confusing. Your point does make sense now 😄

Motorola is ok but their software support is dramatic, only for that reason alone I would go for the Nokia.

Besides, with easy repair of the phone itself I say Nokia is a much better option.

To be honest, I don't defend any brand because, defending a brand amounts to defending a corporate and I do not want to be one at any time in my life. I just stated my preference, as the person requested readers here to choose one from HIS LIST OF TWO and not some other brand. I think my choice is right. Also, my messages here are just only about what I know and my preferences and NOT ALL. If price is not a criteria, then he/she may choose Nokia G42 8GB, 256GB variant because, its display is Good. I think HMD has started to employ good displays now, at least for this higher memory variant. But, still, it is not a FHD display. To be precise and honest, anyone may choose any brand as they like. Just use it and if you like it, stick to it or go for another. This is the game which every corporate wants us to play at least for their own benefits.

For your information, in my previous message, I talked only about Android updates and NOT about other updates like Security updates and Bug fixation updates because, the last two are really necessary. Now, coming to Android updates, I don't believe in it just because, it deteriorates performance most of the time. Any Android version will support most of the apps., in the Play Store for nearly 4 years or as long as the life of a mobile. New Android updates just incorporates new gimmicks (as long as, no changes are made to its core) and nothing more (as far as my requirements are concerned) and personally, I am ready to sacrifice those gimmicks, as long as the Android version in my mobile supports all the apps., I require. This are just my personal preferences and requirements which I share with the readers here. If you like it, you may consider it. If not, please ignore everything I've said because, what can you do if I am lying. It is always too difficult to be True all the time because, it is too difficult to be too Good. If something is too Good then everyone would say that it is too Good to be True. Hence, there is nothing which is too Good. Good Luck.

I can recommend Lenovo because they're becoming more competitive than BBK (Oppo, Vivo, Realme) and Wingtech (Samsung), but Nokia holds up well in long term use without having too much repairs.
I've never replaced nor needed to replace the battery yet in my Nokia 8, even if it turns nearly 7 years.

I used a Samsung Galaxy J3 until the start of the pandemic, which didn't receive any updates, apart from 2 cumulative updates and 4 security patches within 2 years of purchase, that only added bloatware from Hancom, Microsoft and Amazon.
Even though it was a capable low end phone with an ancient Cortex-A7 CPU and Android 5.1.1, it had bugs such as poor GPS positioning and the inability to use 4G LTE most of the time due to connectivity issues in J series devices, despite having the ability to do so. Those were never addressed by Samsung.
I think updates are mandatory, but still, too much is never good.
It's upto the user to decide what they want to purchase since they know their priorities better than what we suggest, and I wouldn't go too far to defend any brand, even if I support them.

Moto G54 has a better and FHD display, more RAM, more internal memory, more battery capacity and a better ultrawide and self camera though both the processors are not meant for heavy gaming. Though Nokia G42 will receive one more Android update compared to Moto G54, still, I prefer Moto G54 over Nokia G42 because, I don't believe in software updates. To be precise, I always prefer Android mobiles which will receive no Android updates

I need advice. I have choice to get either nokia g42 (sd 480+, 4gm ram 128gb storage)

                    or

                    moto g54 (dimensity 7020, 8gb ram 256gb storage).

Both priced same in my country.

What should i get? Both have nice 6.5 inch screen and design that i like. I need mainly for occasional gaming, phone calls, messaging, insta. I also like long battery life

Worst ips lcd amd useless 720p display.

It is actually an 8GB variant, the marketing says 16GB but this is misleading because it is simply up to 8GB virtual RAM.

The Indian variants lack an ecompass and only support limited 5G bands, and the repairability status and availability of parts is not clear in India.

6GB RAM should be plenty for a device running on the 480+ chipset, I have the XR20 which uses the 480 with the same amount of RAM and performance is more than good enough.

So unfair that nokia are releasing a special edition g42 with 16gb ram/256gb storage option in India.

In the uk, local retailers only stock 4gb ram, and 6gb can be purchased online only.

India also has the option of a 8gb variant.

This is so unfair. It seems nokia is neglecting their eu/uk customer base in favor of their international base. 8GB and 16GB ram is good future proofing for a device like this.

Why does the uk only get 4gb or 6gb ram? Do Nokia think uk customers don't multi task or use multiple apps or don't game? Are uk customers not worthy of a smooth user experience? 4gb ram is worthless. 6gb is very basic.

Why treat their eu/uk customer base like this?

Mr Google , 11 Oct 2023Touch response problem maybe caused by glass screen protect... moreSo you mean to say that screen protectors are not permissible on this device. Might be, you mean to say that this device warrants very high quality screen protectors. If this is the case then the device should have come with its own special purpose screen protector supplied by HMD.

Update build can fix the problem, only If the display manufacturer updates their driver if and only if it is a driver related issue. But, if it happens to be a hardware fault nothing can be done by HMD or the display manufacturer.

As far as software updates of any sort are concerned, it is related with Android OS and no one can forget that this device employs Stock Android and NOT some Custom UI. Also, HMD has plenty of past experiences in dealing with the employed SOC in this device.

Android governance is the job of Google and device manufacturers can do nothing about it, as long as they seek Google's services. The job of a mobile device manufacturer is just to match the device driver of concerned hardware parts with Android OS. The job gets little tedious only if the device manufacturer employs their own Custom UI. But, every software job has been made simpler by Google after Google's introduction of Project Treble. To put it precisely, software bugs can be easily fixed after Project Treble. The only thing that remains is the real heart to provide these services.

Before making the g42 purchase this past weekend, I looked over all of these remarks on here.
I was initially apprehensive due to some of the
poor feedback, but I decided to take the chance
                                        because I
adore pure Android, it's less expensive than a pixel,
and the specs appear to be adequate.

Since I started using the phone on Saturday,
I've found it to be somewhat underwhelming. Definitely a screen-related issue. Simply said, it feels sluggish and unresponsive
                                        and
does not react quickly to touches.

The lengthy battery life, stock android, and surprisingly respectable sound speaker output are the benefits. However, the laggy touch issue makes utilizing
                                        messaging applications like WhatsApp, Snapchat,
                                        and Telegram rather troublesome and
disheartening. I wonder if a software update will be able to
remedy this? Is there anybody that knows if
this is possible or is this a hardware related
                                        issue?
