I just found out that WP8 doesn't have (or microsoft doesn't let) 3rd party video player apps capable of playing formats not supported by default (mkv, avi for example) This true, or did I miss something

AnonD-91705, 23 Dec 2012mr.nukeblitz, do u know that battery depends on ur screen? ... moreYeah, and that's part of the reason why microsoft chose a lot of blacks for their UI - major battery savings with AMOLED screens. Ativ S and lumia 820, for example

But in any case, AMOLED vs LCD is one of those debates which is very subjective. I personally don't really care.

As far as LCDs go though, their power consumption, barring technological differences, is almost directly proportional to screen area (not screen diagonal, 3:2 3.5" is much bigger than 16:9 3.5"). This is because the backlight on LCD screens is what consumes the most power. Sharp's IGZO screens directly decrease power consumption by increasing the translucency of the pixel layer so that a dimmer backlight can be used without negative effects.

Now, nokia's clearblack doesn't directly decrease power consumption. It decreases screen reflectivity, which is very useful an bright ambient conditions but makes no difference in the dark.

That said, a 3.8" 15:9 screen is rather large for a 1300mAh battery. I would speculate that screen on time won't be spectacular but that would be just a guess. There a lot more factors that are at play when it comes to battery life like usage patterns, CPU and GPU efficiency, cellular network/wifi idling efficiency, strength of cellular network/wifi(phone compensates during periods of low signal strength) and so on...

There is no reliable way to estimate battery life without directly testing the phone...specification numbers don't mean a lot.

                          More proof of Indian pricing.
                          The recent lumia phones.
710:announced around 270 euros but in India Rs.15500
610:announced around 189 euros but in India Rs.12999
                          510:announced around 199€ but in India Rs.10500
Remember nokia had announced the lumia 710,610,510 in euros and us dollars are before tax and subsidies.Even then there's no matter to Indian pricing, it is always low as compared to other countries. Moreover this phone has been especially launched for the emerging markets. It'll first launch in Asia-the emerging markets.
Hope all of you have properly clarified.

I must remind everyone regarding the price of lumia 620 as 249$. Remember nokia 603 announced @ 260$ but when came to India it was priced @ 14460. In euros 620 is 190€ and 603 was 200€. Lumia 620 will cost in b2win 14000-14500 in India. Go check it out.Don't worry about the price, nokia till now doesn't have disappointed us with the Indian price tag. Don't believe the rumours and fake price expectations, when it will be in the market go and purchase it by carrying the above amount.

mr.nukeblitz, do u know that battery depends on ur screen? Super amoled(darker darks) uses less battery when u put the background in black but it'll use 3times more battery than lcd when u use any other colour. If u use ur mobile 4 internet then avoid s amo bcoz the text is displayed in black and background white that means 3times more battery. But this is not the case with lcd as battery usage is constant.

On the other hand, nokia usually prices their phones really well here - i believe they localize quite a bit but i don't know if they do that with smartphones

The phone carries a 249$ price tag but in India its price is expected around 18K-20K INR which really doesn't make it worthy of all the hype Lumia 620 is getting.

jys, 22 Dec 2012all right, all right, atlast what is the decission , guys ?... moreThe hardware is real value for money. The only phone which does better in that regard is the nexus 4.

The app situation is a problem. If you are in the google ecosystem, then avoid. If you want to play a lot of games, avoid. If you like having a lot of app choices, then avoid. However, if those issues don't bother you, then you should find apps for most things.

As far is the OS itself, think of it as a very solid compromise between iOS and android. Take the live tiles, for example. They aren't nearly as powerful and flexible as widgets on android but they look beautiful and very nicely avoid the cluttered mess that android homescreens tend to become. Ask yourself, do you need that extra power? Do you consume a lot of information from different sources? Are you willing to sacrifice functionality for a smoother UI?
