WP OS looks promising to me...
But I would not recommend this to anybody right now. But users can look for the next WP version (WP 8 or Tango or what ever they call it) if all the below short comings and restrictions are sorted out:-
1. Support for Micro SD card slot (even though it affects the performance as MS assumes); an option should be provided to the manufacturers. Let them decide whether to go for it not. MS can put restrictions like; messages, contacts, UI elements, ringtones, alert tones, apps etc to be placed only in the internal memory. External card can be used only as a dump for Music, Videos, Pics, docs etc.
2. Bluetooth file transfers (Ok.. Wifi Direct might replace BT in future, but still it takes at least 2 years from now).
3. Removal of Zune dependency. Again let the manufacturers decide how users can transfer and sync the media content. If MS feels that an enthusiastic user tries to play MKV video of high bit rate which could not be done without deteriorating the device's performance, just put proper capping on the video formats/file sizes/bit rates that would pop a message like - "File could not be played due to high bit rate.. use Zune to transfer the file and try again". This is just an example.
4. Allow implementing custom UI's to manufacturers. The tiles thing is ok for me.. But most of the people are shying away from WP due to this. Let the users decide which UI they prefer with a simple setting. If opening this to OEMs will affect the WP performance, they can allow all the custom UIs and their related themes to be offered to users via MS’s own market after rigorous testing.
5. In general perception, a MS product is always priced a bit too high. Price the apps reasonably.
The bottom line is - Do not go totally in either the Apple's way or the Android's way. They have already occupied those two extreme ends and it is difficult to conquer either of them. The middle path (Proper control on the device with calculated liberty to users/OEMs) is better in my opinion

such a shame..
After ownin this phone for 5 days on Voda UK i am sending it back.
UI is very good and smooth, the built in sat nav "nokia Drive" is brilliant locks on in about 10 seconds and very easy to use! camera was good enough for what i use. app store was good enough not as good as app store for andriod or apple. screen and touchscreen are very good as well.
problem with this phone is battery!! its awful!
didnt even last 24 hrs without any usuage!!! i left it in my house went on a night out picked it up mid day next day and it was dead. terrible.

Raju, 22 Nov 2011People just get attracted to the word Dual Core Processor a... moreWell... I can honestly say that dual core and 1GB RAM is needed for Android devices because it lags A LOT and I know from experience. On the other hand, WP devices don't need that kind If specs at the moment because Metro UI is very simple and is smooth on a single core. I hear that the future Apollo update will bring dual core and higher screen resolutions. Microsoft said they haven't found a way to optimize the second core. At the moment it's fine without it.

they should've made this thing with a 4 inch display at least - and the released prize tag is too much - not worth it at all .. but its a good thing nokia did by skipping to windows phone 7 from symbian ...

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2011Lumia 800 requires the following upgrades: 1. Camera as N8... morePeople just get attracted to the word Dual Core Processor and 1GB RAM. But in fact it is just a market trick and in reality no mobile needs such a huge configaration. And that drains your battery in Hours....

Still no full flash support for browser from nokia even though running windows in its smartphone.... Waiting for a full flash support version from nokia....
Must add an expandable slot for SD card in windows platform with front camera....
Nokia should change the native home screen of the windows phone without tiles, as what they did to their symbian homescreen in anna and belle.... These can make a nokia's windows phone that can make real windows experience....

Nice looking fone but lacking many specifications to be qualified for true smart fone: such as
no NFC support, no video call camera, no documents editing and file management facility,
battery could last for 2 hours only on internet browsing after full charge.
