Stupid me, 22 Aug 2013Is it true that if you put a big memory card into your phon... moreI already write the mem card issues, didn't you read? Wo, with the beginning. A 64 gb card will work properly only if you don't hit the 32 gb boundry (sometimes, even if you don't, your phone can crush and write errors on your card (ever occured: memory corrupted, format?). So, while others may think this comes cause the phone or the card are not good enough, and mark the 64 gb option as a working solution, i definetly NOT recommend it by any means (cause is a waist of money, and maybe even a waste of allot of data, if things get bad). 32 gb card is a go, and if you heave a very good brand (sandisk, PNY, Polaroid, LEXAR, maybe kingstone to). 16 gb i recommend just cause you will not be able to put extreme data on it, this avoiding the slowdowns when your phone will search for it( of course that if you have 6000 of photos, your gallery will slow down a bit until all will be scanned, so overall performance will be a bit slowed down, not by much though and in general this happens only with your whole memory being full or almost full. Also look for spead. Buy a micro sd with the best readig spead you can find, not to extreme cause our legend device is old and will not take advantages from them. If you have enough money and are willig to buy a premium one, you can try to find the sandisk mobile ultra class 10 16gb uhs1. If you want more memory try to find the SanDisk microSDHC Ultra 32GB, class 10, UHS-I. It can be quite expensive, though...

Stupid me, 23 Aug 2013Well, if 16GB is almost 4 DVD's, then the advice was good b... moreJust downloading some episodes of the science talk show I missed. 1 hour = 150-200 MB. So, basically you get 5-6 episodes in one gigabyte. And after I watch them I'll probably delete them. A full movie in 360p is around 300 MB. So, no idea how to fill all the space - yet. I tend to keep only important stuff, and things I can't easily replace. I have some music too but I usually listen to it on my PC or stereo anyway. And a few favorite videos and full concerts to have near me when I need something to cheer me up. SanDisk is a respected brand, but speed-wise you have to know what class it is, not what brand it is. ;-) It should be written on the package if not on the card.
Now that you remind me I do have a real tuner too, I wonder if there's any life in the battery left since I used it last time. Also I got the HDMI cable with the phone but it's buried somewhere in my room, haven't seen it in a while. Hmmm, Zedge has millions of users, of course you didn't see me when you didn't know what to look for. :-D
Argh, a plane was flying low today and I took a photo of it with my phone, but I was too slow so the composition wasn't much to speak of. But I can see the plane quite well.

N8 has a 'remote lock' feature where you can lock it by sending a code via SMS, and there are some security apps, but if you don't have any of those there's not much to do. You can call your operator or the police and report it as stolen.

MdN, 23 Aug 2013I only did a little research, apparently there are problems... moreWell, if 16GB is almost 4 DVD's, then the advice was good because no way I can find, lets say 7 DVD's worth of stuff to put in the phone. OMG! I'll forget what I have for sure. I can be more lavish now and download like crazy :-). I never thought I would go into a store and the clerk would discourage me from buying! The whole incident was amusing :-). Where do you think SanDisk fits? Slow or middle? That's all I've seen around here and "no name" which I refuse to buy. Fast card and slow card??? Who woulda thought!

Shush! Thanks for your advice on downloading videos and suggesting what apps to use. I like YouTube Downloader Pro which records mp3's as well. Normally I just watch straight off the PC so I'll try this and keep a few videos on the phone for when I have to wait in boredom somewhere. Of course you will have realized I was just grand-charging about HDMI. I don't know a damn thing about it :-)))).

Like you, my newly recorded guitar tuner is mainly for emergency. I normally use my old Korg but the readings for the 2nd & 3rd strings are inaccurate so I always have to tweak those. So I can now use both together and get it right (I tried it). But the best part is I don't have to walk with the Korg at all what with it being almost as big as the phone. If it is a bit out of tune, nobody cares but me (it jars my ears)! The other people won't even notice. I did not see you on Zedge.

Stupid me, 22 Aug 2013Is it true that if you put a big memory card into your phon... moreI only did a little research, apparently there are problems with some 32 or 64GB cards of some brands but 16GB generally works, and since it's enough for me I went with that. Hey, I have as much memory as some "flagship" phones now, and I can always get another spare card. There are reasons causing phones to slow down, yes. Cards come in different "Classes" (read/write speed) so if it's low class (slower than the phone) it can cause stutter, but Class 10 is faster than this phone so there shouldn't be problems. N8 officially supports up to 32GB but I see people can use 64 too.
Also, phone/PC writes files in the first available space, so the files can get fragmented, one file with parts in many different places. This shouldn't cause lags but somehow it does. But they can be defragmented too. :-) My other phone would start reading photos from the gallery really slow, but when I defragmented the card it turned back to normal. Well, 16GB is almost 4 DVDs which is a lot, unless you record HD video.

The built-in Voice Recorder is quite great. I tried recording some rain and thunder sounds from my window and it was okay, very little noise (if any) and good bass and treble... And someone speaking in the other room ruining my recording! >:-/
I tried some other sound recorders but they are mostly call recorders "without the beep sound" (who cares) and bad interface, the only one I kept is Audio Recorder Pro which can even record in CD quality. There's a mono/stereo option too but I couldn't get it to record stereo. By the way, N8 has some sort of electronic microphones capable of recording up to 115 decibels with no distortion. Not as good as 140 on the 808 but still very decent and very loud. :-)
I normally use freeware called Guitools on my PC for guitar tuning. The ones on my phone are just for emergency or "just because". :-) Well, since I play black metal I don't need to be 100% in tune, haha. I'm just so glad it's working, my other phone had some noise reduction where silent sounds would just be cut off, it drove me mad as I couldn't find an app for it.

Downloading videos? Easy! :-) YouTube Downloader is free at Nokia Store, there's also a free version of FastTube - you can use both to browse, watch or download videos. There's also YouTube Downloader Pro which can, in addition, download just mp3 from a YouTube video. Then there's YouTube downloader for PC, a "1-click YouTube Video Downloader" for Firefox and... Blah, blah... :-) So, just find the video you want, choose 360p (if you'll only watch it on your phone), hit "download" and wait a while.

MdN, 22 Aug 2013I wasn't even planning to get a memory card soon, as 16 GB ... moreIs it true that if you put a big memory card into your phone it slows it down and may even cause it to hang? The store clerk convinced me to put in a 16GB instead of a 32GB when I was adamant I wanted one. The transaction ended up involving everybody around. They all felt I could not fill the 16GB on the phone far less a memory card too. I don't know. They made it sound as if 16 GB is a humongous size but to me it sounds like a little bit. Maybe it is being real adventurous to put a 64GB into your phone. I won't have the nerve for that.

Have you noticed how accurate the Voice Recorder is? I felt it was so useless to have downloaded 2 audio guitar tuners that I decided to fix that! I searched the web and got a good audio tuner on my PC. I recorded it off the speaker and presto. I deleted the 2 apps. I really can't tell the difference if by chance it is a little off (which I doubt). Ever recorded something and when you try to play along with the same guitar that you recorded, they sound totally different? That is the pits! Or you're trying to figure out the chords from a recording and you're hearing one thing on the recording and another key on the guitar? That is a mental adjustment nightmare. I'm so glad that the phone's Voice Recorder has eliminated that problem for me. Shush! I don't know how to download a video, never tried.

Today I had a chance to get a 16 GB Transcend, Class 10, for a nice price, and I bought it. Works right away, loaded some videos, no problems. I tried proposing too, but the guy wouldn't answer!!! The jerk! I'll try again tomorrow.

Rad-K, I really wish someone out there can help you. The only thing I can say (and maybe you saw it too) is that after Jan 2013, device software downloading will be possible only by using the latest software releases with service NOL login supported. Hope that makes sense to you. My vague interpretation is that you now have to log in somewhere if you want to download Belle Refresh. It used to be available elsewhere but Nokia stopped it. There MUST be a way to get it, surely.
