[deleted post]I'm not here to demonstrate my identity. I assumed that many people wouldn't believe me since my first post. If you don't like the analogy Symbian^3-Windows Vista, I'm sorry but it's what it feels for many people. If I helped someone is all that's important for me, I don't care if many people don't trust me.

"Symbian is still a benchmark for all other mobile os"

Not at all. Your comment is three years late. Symbian leads just in installed base because of selling a lot of cheap phones, but its market share is shrinking in favour of Android and iOS at an alarming rate. Let's not talk about its situation in the USA, which is pretty sad.

The market is just a reflection of Symbian lagging behind in performance, software available, visual attractiveness and ease to use. When every review says that, how do you think you look making such statement? Then you try to negate my points telling I can't know better than Nokia themselves. That's just childish.

"Personally, i don't consider the iphone a smartphone so i don't see it as worth mentioning. Its an overpriced feature phone with a lot of high quality apps 'which you have to pay for'. And don't mention jailbreaking cuz you loose your warranty."

This is the worst kind of comment. You hate iPhone so much that don't even care to give it a shot and know what is it all about. It just shows how you modify your perception of reality to fit your needs. The veil of ignorance feels warm when you can't afford something, doesn't it?

AppStore is the leader of its segment by miles and offers much more free apps than OVI Store. Content's quality in OVI Store is laughable too, because most free apps for N8 seems amateur or bad copies of iPhone apps.

Jailbreak? I've been jailbreaking iPhones in batch. It's legal and revertible, so you don't lose anything. It enables iOS to do whatever you want with it. I strongly suggest every iPhone user to do this. It eliminates most iPhone problems and makes it almost perfect.

The funny thing is I don't own an iPhone 4 or Android because I just don't want it. I'm so surrounded by technology that a classic non-touch Nokia is what makes me feel good.

For the people who took their N8 back to the store to try something else: Bravissimo! It takes guts to break with the past and I'm sure you are all happier now.

For the people that plans on buying it: Be sure to really know how a jailbroken iPhone works and how a rooted Android works. Don't blind yourself.

For the people who already bought it:... good luck with the updates and I sincerely hope you make the most out of it, which is a lot really.

Now I'm tired of internet fighting for the next decade. Have fun, everybody!

I was always a SE fan. Options limited now. Never owned a Nokia phone before, new to symbian. Played with Iphone and Blackberry. When my SE died I decided to try the Nokia N8. So it is without bias that I say this is a damn good, no great machine. Really nothing like it. As an N8 owner I have to say that a lot of the bad reviews are far from true. Sure, like any other phone there are things we would like to see improved. But whether on its own merit or in comparison to other phones this beast is a freakin media monster. Damn great it is

[deleted post]Words can explain it. The designers designed the N8 home screen to delay switching on purpose. The reason is that the contacts widget within the home screen also scrolls horizontally. The delay is there to distinguish between a widget scroll and a home screen scroll. If you press the home screen button at the bottom, it will change home screens as fast as any other phone.

Many users prefer to have the home screen scroll as you drag your finger across the screen. Nokia has changed the home screen to do this. Not sure if the update is available yet.

The delay has nothing to do with any hardware/software limitations of the N8. It was perhaps not a good decision to put the delay in as indicated by the many complaints. That is why Nokia is changing the home screen to scroll instantly.

If you want a cheap plastic phone... buy a Samsung Galaxy.

If you want a phone with a joke OS... buy a Samsung Wave.

If you want a well built phone which won't break in 6 months and has the best camera on the planet... buy the NOKIA N8!

Use iphone 4, galaxy s, and n8. Best device is galaxy s then n8 then iphone 4. Use mac and windows all versions. Make sure you get a device that meets your needs. Galaxy has dlna and n8 usb OTG. Iphone only has itunes. Have any of you used your devices for sharing, copying or transferring? Hspa fastest on galaxy for those who need to know then iphone then n8. These comments from real use. Spec on paper and hear say not the best way to judge a device. Hope this helps.

[deleted post]Wave fanboy, get your facts straight: Wave is made of plastic not steel. Even if the case made of steel, anodized aluminum would bury it anywhere, anytime, any day.

I have the N8 and I can confidently say it is a fantastic phone.
Even my friend who is an Android fanboy agreed it is a good phone.
However, there are some shortcomings mostly due to the OS, but they will be fixed with future firmware updates. One of the few disappointments for me though is the lack of a LED light on the back which means no video light and no torch application. The other being the loud speaker. The sound quality isn't as good as the 5800xm and being mounted on the back means the sound can be muffled whilst in your pocket.
The phone itself is one of the most stylish looking handsets out there next to the Samsung Wave. iphone has never struck me as being particularly good looking.
A shortcoming of the iphone 4 is the lack of a HDMI port, which is bizzare considering it can record video in HiDef.
The N8's connectivity is streets ahead of the competition, with bluetooth v3, HDMI, USB to PC and even USB to a USB memory stick! The FM transmitter is a good inclusion for listening to your music in the car without having to worry about cables.
Verdict then is 4 out of 5. But if Nokia fix the bugs with the OS it will score 5 out of 5.
