Depends what you intend using this device for, if as a camera, maybe a good choice. As a smartphone, maybe average. Let's compare two handsets on pay-as-you-go, in Britain. N8 £329 Tesco, ZTE Blade aka San Francisco on Orange £99. I don't work for Orange so don't think I'm biased here! At £99 you get a 480x800 Oled display, capacitive one at that and IT ROCKS! Android 2.1, a fast GPU, but a processor similar to the N8. N8 640x480, and having seen them side by side, the only 'better' in N8 is contrast ration, only just better though. Audio much better in N8 though, camera junk in Blade, true. But bang for buck, and quality that you would never expect from ZTE that rivals Nokia, the ZTE screen is glass, and can tell you scratches with great difficulty, unlike HTC Desire. The Blade runs NFS, almost as fast as N8, but at greater resolution (provided you close all background apps running) I intend to get an N8, as love the idea of easy HDMI connection, and USB on the go, but apart from that may actually be thinking the Blade is the flagship handset, and better, how odd when you think of price differential. Nokia have good build quality (apart from my 5230 with its THIN plastic that still makes odd creaking noises, yuk!) Time will tell if N8 is another N95 for them. Too late mabe, better out there perhaps, at similar or cheaper price

can i ask, when you receive a text message on this phone, do you get the usual nokia standard '1 new message' or does it show the name of the person texting, as on samsung etc.

      Thanks

These specs just do not bode well when paired with Android. It's going to have to have one serious energy source.

Nameless, 02 Nov 2010'say the analysts?' Stop believing the FUD, they are paid t... moreWell said. You can make your own cables using wires & plugs from standard home appliances. There is no point paying stupid money because people who have great hearing, even engineers can't hear the perceivable difference.

There is so much noise that the human ear cannot pick up. The frequencies are never the same frequencies, they always somehow change. Something science can't explain. It's a phenomenah where the perceivable variables will always be variable.

I think people just think a perceptional change has taken place. With psycho acoustics, the same can be said. Whether a change in the aoucstic soundstage really changes based on the amount of physical noise from lights, electricity, circuits. Could actually help lessen noise etc. etc.

I have bought aktimate maxi speakers. But with the replace polarities you'll be surprised to hear a little bit more warmth from switching them & tye channels.

Everydays I am reading the comment for n8. Today, I tried the n8 in the store it has excellent feature but:
              1. It has bad touch screen compare with iPhone 4 and galaxy s
              2. The multi task is uncomfortable compare with other ( the touch response when closing the applications
              3. The number of applications is nothing compare with iPhone and android
              4. Os is outdated compare with the others
              5. Nokia massaging for email is lag with mail for exchange
              6. Slow interface compare with iPhone 4 ( galaxy s laging with you keep open alot of applications )
              7. Price is reasonable but in my opinion I will add some money to buy something butter than this
              8. The browser is terrible ( in my opinion it is most important feature in smart phone nowadays.

              This is my comments
              Thanks

Its like audio cables and the cr@p they said about them, is 10000usd for 1 foot copper justified? No? Well, people with a diploma said they are worth the price. I for one don't buy it nor do I buy in the stories about Symbian dying. An efficient OS like that can only evolve...

The Nokia N8 is expected to help increase shipments around the holiday season but Symbian is falling and Nokia needs to move with MeeGo, say the analysts.

Engineer Man, 02 Nov 2010Now I think official release is supposed to 4th Nov. But No... moreAll the phone manufacturers are currently suffering component shortages. For example, manufacturers like HTC are actually releasing new phones with non-AMOLED screens exactly because there simply aren't enough to go around.

If you combine that to the fact that C7 and N8 are selling very well and have been sold out in many places, it is most likely impossible for Nokia to stick to their earlier release plans no matter how much they wanted to.

U guys are complaining about hardware and outdated software????? I thought the features made the device! I mean its easy to overlook some hardware and software shortcomings if the device has enough features to keep you entertained! Dont get caught up in all of the OS bullshit! Because that can be changed without even buying a new device nowadays so can software shortcomings! So that leaves the hardware - i wont miss a 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM and 2GB ROM if my 600MHz processor with 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM runs my games, videos, movies, music and browsing very comfortably! I personally prefer the balance of the Nokia N8!!
