Wheez, 29 Sep 2010I still don't see any real use for this feature, it makes s... moreI think what N97mini_user wants is a fast start up time. My N97 takes about a minute to turn on. It is very annoying to me because my Blackberry turns on in a matter of seconds. I have a Blackberry for work and an N97 for personal use. Every workday, I turn my work phone on when I start work and turn it off when work ends. Likewise, I turn my personal phone off when I start work and turn it back on after work.
I am merely speculating that the Blackberry's fast start up time may be that it is not actually turning off, but is in standby mode. In any case, it starts up fast in mere seconds. That is what I would like in a phone and I believe that is what N97mini_user wants as well. However they do it does not matter to me.

I like the look and specs of the N8 and i wanted to buy one asap, and if i'm going to wait for 3 months for a new phone upgrade while my N97 falls apart...volume not working, battry cover broken again and held on with stickytape, poor battery life....then Nokia keeps shifting its release date, well it will force a lot of people to look elsewhare.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2010Lucky you, you were faster than me to react! ;-)
So have... moreNo, but even if I would/could find out, I would probably break my Non-Disclosure Agreement to tell it in here if Nokia decides not to shed light on it.
But as a guess I'd say it's both. They are working their asses off to provide enough of em and it's understandable to not wanting to send small batches of them instead of full loads. So meanwhile they are making more of em, they also get the chance to tweak the software abit more.
But the one I use nearly daily, I havn't found a single bug from it. I also know a couple of guys who have had the chance to use a prototype as their normal phone for months and they said they havn't had it hang like older Symbians have, for example.
Certainly there's something to tweak, but personally I havn't found anything critical about it. The biggest issue software wise I've found is that photo/video editor seems to be badly optimized. Even in their very simple menus they run in like 10 FPS, while any other included app runs with some easy 60 FPS if/when needed. And that bad performance in the photo/video editor is even when not editing anything, u can see it in some videos when they just launch those, its alot choppier than anything else in the phone.

So have you actually figured out if the delays (where delay there is) were due to the high demand or to a software issue?

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2010As well as many would wish you good luck waiting for the N8... moreI get to use the N8 myself daily, I see them manufactured with my own eyes nearly weekly too. I have no doubts about this device. Also probably the reason why I don't have much of a trouble waiting for this. I also understand that after N97 is understandable that they don't want to release it with too early software, cos they can't afford doing new N97s here.
I also understand that they were forced to announce it early due to that stupid Eldar Murtazin or w/e.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2010N8 is NOT better than Samsung Wave!
And Wave is NOT PLASTI... moreI didn't say any of that for crying out loud, learn to read.
For me, the N8 is better, theres nothing you can argue about this cos you are not me. It's my opinion. I said the Wave is a wonderful wonderful device and IF I would get anything but the N8, it probably would be Samsung Wave. But only the looks of the Wave alone would make me not buy it, just my personal opinion.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2010As well as many would wish you good luck waiting for the N8... moreThey havn't sent the same kinda delay emails here in Finland than they have in the UK, so technically theres a chance to still get at least some colored ones this week.
But for most non-preorderers the given time is like end of october, so I suppose then.
I know it's coming out, I'm not in a hurry. I have a totally working Nokia atm, I just change my phone every 2-3 years even if its perfectly fine.
Why would I wish him luck waiting the N8 when he clearly stopped waiting already?

And Wave is NOT PLASTIC LINE!
Wave have fine metal body and great OS, powerful CPU, GPU and DISPLAY!
Wave have now 1300 apps on apps store, only for 2 months!

Nokia is looser in 2010.
They must change overall in technology and OS!

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2010Have u experience the samsung wave in ur hand.ok lets diffe... moreYes I have, and it was very nice. I just don't like the way it looks, the material is nice for a change (From Samsungs usual plastic line). Also, I prefer Symbian cos its alot more mature OS than Bada is, Bada isn't bad, but it still has a long way to go till it reaches the same maturity. It also lacks some of the reasons I'm getting N8 in the first place. Little things and features like the FM transmitter, USB OTG for example.
However, I would not be even getting a smartphone if it wasnt for the N8. I hated 99,9% of the smartphones cos they were really ugly and when I first got to use the N8 I instantly fell in love with mainly the looks at that point and decided to get one in blue color (also an important thing, I do not want a dull black/silver phone again).
Also, while I try to remain as objective as possible when I comment here, I would rather get some Nokia "dumbphone" rather than buy any other manufacturers smartphone if I wouldnt buy the N8 for whatever reason. I'm from the city Nokias mobile business started from and have worked there at the factory myself in 3 different jobs (although I'm only 20) first in fixing feeders as a summerjob, then in the warehouse and then I moved into security where I was for little over 2 years till I quit working full hours due to starting university.
So that's why I won't even consider Samsung or anything but the N8. It doesnt however stop me from suggestng these phones to other people. The most important thing is to get a phone that suits YOUR needs, not what others say is the best (for them). There is no facts about "the best smartphone", only opinions and personal preference.
The N8 is just the "tailored" phone for me. I will not go for anything with less features than the N8 and I'm more than willing to give up the speed of iPhone and maybe some Android phones for that (Although the N8 is NOT slow). Also, having the options, I also wanna "show colors" as in supporting Nokia cos of my origins as well as have the freedom of picking a phone just cos it looks good. (For the record, I do not think the iPhone 4 looks good, better than Samsungs and HTCs IMO, but still not good)
