A must must read article!- The Nokia way, past, present and future : http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2010/07/obituary-for-opk-wall-street-is-a-cruel-mistress-nokia-searching-for-ceo.html
A stance from it about N8 and failure of N97:
******************************************************
When Nokia finally did an 'iPhone killer' - that project failed. And this falls onto the feet of OPK. The N97 was a rare disaster phone for Nokia and with hind-sight, its clear to see, Nokia would have been better served by delaying the N97 until it was more-or-less bug-free, than hurrying the phone to the market. The lessons from the N97 were very painful to Espoo and no doubt those lessons are why Anssi Vanjoki delayed the N8 launch now, knowing its not good enough yet, and wanted to refine it before releasing it.

n8 is much better than wave. wave only has samoled and 480 x 840. theres many useles space in the wave. N9 will also feature a 12mp. the one in the rumor mill is the Nokia E7. I hope it has 1500 mah.

the two of N8 could have been better- first the proceesor should have been atleast 1Ghz speed, secondly the screen resolution could have been enhanced to 800*400. Then N8 could have been one of the rarest and finest mobile product ever produced by any company but still it is game changer.

i will not buy a phone for the UI only. Symbian 3 and 4 looks promising for me. I find the Palm Os more attractive than the Android OS and Ios4. But i look on the functionalities. Symbian is the BEST!

YJ, 22 Jul 2010Yes! More home screen seem to be easy with a developer. And... moreWith symbian open source, it is possible without a doubt. I currently own a 5233 with symbian^1 and i have Omnia HD homescreen running without any problems even with a lot of widgets and 3 homescreens. Cooked up FW are 10 times better than what Nokia offers. The performance has also increased 2 fold. Better RAM management and computing cycles can boost the performance of even an entry level symbian smartphone. Just imagine the case with N8.
It will be interesting to see as this is going to be without a doubt the next developers play toy after the mighty 5800.

I was actually wondering if the samsung Wave is indeed the N8 killer. With a smaller price tag and a slightly better hardware, Wave was a bit hard to resist noticing. But prowling through the wave forum, I can now confidently conclude that samsung have scrwed up yet again with the wave. The one and only important reason being the poor after sales services.
Omnia HD survived so long even without samsung's official support because symbian is open source and that encouraged communities to develop and perfect the OS. But with wave and a new not so popular Bada platform, samsung has to do something from their part to keep it alive.
The good thing about symbian is that though everyone calls it outdated and laggy, everything is already present so N8 will have the luxury of a vast number of readily available apps soon after its release. For wave, i don't see that working out. And not to mention the Qt SDK and cross platforming capabilities will be a relief for those aspiring to own an N8. I can't seem to find a good enough reason to switch to Bada or Android. Just because symbian is the oldest smartphone platform around doesn't mean it has to be buried alive to make room for new contenders.
Symbian is the past present and future of smartphones. big gins may come and go but symbian is here to stay.

YJ, 22 Jul 2010i hope after n8 release, a patch from nokia or from hacker ... moreWhy would you need 5 home screen with 30 widgets? What could you possibly have.
Android 2.2 > Symbian^3
That's crazy! You know how crazy you sound right now! You should be medicated!
