Need a REPLACEMENT, 12 Jun 2010I am planning to buy a new phone. Currently I am using N... moreI'm sure your phone hangs because you don't understand how symbian works. You probably leave too many applications running in background. I've used symbian since 2004. It only hangs if you make it.

The n8 runs a refined version of symbian so it should hang too often. Just remember to close open apps running in background.

I am planning to buy a new phone.

Currently I am using NOKIA E63 and I must tell you guys, it keeps hanging all the time.

Now I need a replacement and don’t know what will be the best replacement.

Xperia X10 – There are various problems regarding battery life. Android is advantageous, but still no XENON flash.

Samsung Wave – Checked out today at shop. Felt so good using it. Problem is Bada.

Nokia N8 – What if it hangs. I am giving up on E63 because it hangs. Everything feels so good about N8 except battery not removable easily.

I am currently using Nokia BH-905 Bluetooth headphones.
    BH-905 costed me 200 pounds.
    They are best in class.
Today it got hanged while switching it on.
Now battery cannot be removed and its buttons are not working.
Kept power off button on hold for more than 20second.
    Nothing happens.
Now kept it playing with Noise Cancellation ON.
To drain the battery so that it shuts down.
Then I am hoping that it will work fine.

But we can’t keep N8 like that for hours if it hangs daily.

Because all Nokia phones I have used previously have hanged once a day.

    Any suggestions?

hey i m also waiting for n8 as all other nokia fans are, but in a dilemma and perhaps one of u can hlp me out that i have used many models of nokia phones and i must admit that all the phones used to get hanged up due to whatever reasons i dont know(may be due to third party apps). anyway i believe that n8 may also hang up several times, and in order to restart the phone, we will have to remove the battery and place it again. but seriously, will we always have to unscrew? which cannot be done every where and will be a discomfort :)

Engineer Man, 12 Jun 2010Yes & report of the first release N8 firmware being alr... moreApps are bullshit. If the device is really good, it can do most of that stuff with rss, bookmarks, hotlinks, etc.

The last video of the N8, the one with the Music player etc, is just SO smooth. Guess that ARM 11 works well in the end huh :)

Anonymous, 12 Jun 2010This is a very good phone, but it could have done better. ... moreIf you knew anything about mobile phones and processors, you would know that the numbers quoted for a processor do not determine the speed of the device. If fact, it is possible for a 'slower' processor to be process more data that its 'faster' counterpart per unit time. You would also know that the optimum processor requirement of a mobile is almost in totality dictated by its os. This means a 'slower' processor may run an os faster than a 'faster' processor would run another. In fact, the only thing about a processor that can be predicted by its 'numbers' is the amount of power it consumes and the amount of waste heat it produces. You would should therefore understand that its every designers interest to put the best processor and nothing excess. The processor in the n8 is a 750 downclocked to 680. Why in your opinion would nokia down clock the cpu?

Would you prefer a 1500 removable battery and a 5800 sized phone to this model? The battery quotations are good enough. Nokia is trying to sell phones not impress you. I for one, wont mind a thick or even ugly phone so long it performs but the majority do.

25 frames a second is good enough. My only disappointment in this phone is the mono speakers. . .

Our interest is getting hit by apple sheep all over. We need some real daily interest boosts here. Where have all the Nokia fans gone? Everyone needs to come back. So we can walk all over Iphone 4 again.

Yes & report of the first release N8 firmware being already very stable with not many bugs. Nokia knows now that future S^ phones need a good start, need to look good, need to be simple to use, pretty to look at etc... This area Nokia needs to have handsets working well with no issues. All we need in Symbian is convergence. Apples has 200,000 aps, Android 50,000 apps.

Symbian needs some real interested parties, developers, community, from every platform now the code is open, to bring S^ ahead of it's competition. Can this be done. Never say never. e need real motivation, confidence, that this OS is a little powerhouse of a gem over the rest of the competition.

Why nokia should be given respect?

They invested billions in developing gsm umts etc patents

they have put much effort into the symbian and meego os

they wont overprice their phone like apple does
