kevinaux, 04 Jun 2010I think its working. For now anyways. By the way Mark, ... moreHi,

Interesting points. Well for one, Sammy is betting on multiple horses, Android, Bada, Symbian even.

For Android, the Galaxy S needs to be the flagship. Since it runs Android, there is no competitive difference to other Android phones on the OS side. By adding touchwiz, they are actually giving up some ground in this space.

The way to stand out is to add crazy specs to the device, and I am honestly doubting some of them, like the 90 million polygon count. I mean, the thing will be fast, thats not the point. I just think Sammy are pushing this dubious point hard, since it is, well, unique if it were true.

Other than that, and the nice screen, the phone is lacking hardware wise.

You said it, plastic, no flash (what!), TouchWiz, etc.

For a gaming device this would be nice, but so would the N8, giving you many more features for a fraction of the price. In aluminum. With Xenon flash. And navigation, free for life.

I digress but, when it comes to competition, i like the wave and the x10 better than the galaxy s.

And to be fully honest, I dont think any of those phones give you the bang for buck that the N8 does.

I am very excited about the N8.

PS. I think people that want Nokia to use Android dont see the bigger picture here. We really need Nokia to push Symbian like they did, and MeeGo. If Nokia would adopt Android, than Android would become the de facto standard overnight. Nokia is the only thing keeping Google from mobile world domination, and I support them in that.

Mark, 04 Jun 2010Don't feed the trolls! :)I think its working. For now anyways.

By the way Mark, wanted to share some thoughts with you about how you think this device measures up against the much spoken about Galaxy S.

Tell you frankly, I really don't understand the hoopla surrounding the Galaxy. I compared the specs and found that N8 either equals or overshadows the Galaxy. The only advantage I can see the Galaxy having over the N8 is the Super AMOLED as you can see in this link http://www.oled-display.net/super-amoled-vs-amoled.
I am disregarding the CPU and RAM here as I believe these two points are only tied to which OS you use. I know many analogies have been exhausted here to explain the different HW requirements between Android and Symbian^3 but thought it'll be fun to introduce another. Check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-3qgS-K-gU
As I see it, the Android is the Viper with its huge 8 litre engine (CPU) that does practically the same thing as an Evo with a 2 litre engine (CPU) coupled with with a turbo charger unit (GPU). Who is faster is subjective, whats important is both drivers get what they wanted. (I know I sound like I am preaching to the choir here).

So that leaves us with just the OS. I personally love the Symbian OS as I believe its the most mature of all the OSes out there. I say mature to describe the many layers of functionality that is hidden underneath the "unassuming" UI and the E Series have best demonstrated that in the past (SIP is just one example). I feel that the Android is like a very cool looking house but the interior is not completed yet while the Symbian is a old house that is very luxurious inside that the owners decided repaint the exterior (Symbian^1) instead of renovating it (Symbian^4). We just love analogies don't we :).

But coming back to my point, what is the Galaxy's deal. For a phone that lacks these features :
                    # No free GPS navigation solution
                    # No Flash support for the web browser
                    # No flash for the camera
                    # No dedicated camera key
                    # The all-plastic body is a real fingerprint magnet
                    # Feeble loudspeake
there are sure a lot of love out there.

More N8 Gaming - Asphalt 5! Although not as nice looking as Need for Speed shift in other vids (very nice quality there), this looks decent, and this is a video, so better to look at than the screenshots for NFS we have seen so far:

I am really not opposed to the guys who hate a brand or a company. It is just the original human nature to develop favoritism and support/trash something accordingly. But in case of few ---- it has crossed the limits here in N8 forum. What I can understand is they are feeling let down by the mobile they have already bought (X10 for instance) after finding out how N8 going to be.. a new landmark.. not in terms of specs which can get outdated overnight, but the buzz it is creating in the mobile world; both on & off the lines.

My sincere suggestion to such frustrated guys.. Don’t feel jealous of anything around (N8 in this case), as nothing is going to last for ever. Not even N8!! Once this baby is out in the market people go crazy about this and get their own piece just they did when N95, XM 5800, SE X10 etc were released. But they would eventually find another better one from any brand (not just Nokia or SE) and might feel bad for jumping into N8!! This goes on and on.. So stop sulking here. Hearing your unsolicited advices for the last few weeks is irritating the people over here. This blog is to post your opinions. Do that and leave others to decide what they want to do. Don’t try to force your views on others.

On the positive note, we can see how much popular this N8 is going to become. The ones who are trashing it are only adding up to the hype and increasing its popularity. That way it is good for Nokia, they will shoot up in their opening sales :)

And please don’t take me granted for a Nokia fanboy; I have used mobiles of Nokia, SE, Sammy etc in the past, and currently using low end Samsung Metro to give all the big ones (mobiles) a small break. I am satisfied with Sammy the most, but still I can’t show N8 under poor light, as I really like that. Even if I don’t like some (X10 mini, N97 etc) I don’t keep bashing in those forums. If I feel like giving my views on such non-favorite handsets, will give the same in those forums and keep silent. There is no reason to go after them in their respective forums and becoming a fool yourself.

And I guess some of you haters don’t have any work to do rather than posting nonsense here. May be, you are paid to do this! Whatever, don’t waste your time hating something all your life. It isn’t good for your health and people around you. Hatred never yields something fruitful to anybody.

I think I went too much into philosophy ;-)
