Guys, can we all agree to just ignore trolls? It is no use, the more you argue with them, the more important they think they are.

We have had some very good and serious posts here, by Dev, Ying, others. Lets focus on those and not the senseless blabbing that has plagued the thread here.

Another great video, for N8:

[deleted post]Now yours is one hella funny post.

Symbian doesn't need a very fast processor to run smoothly. You got that right but in your comparism, you seemed to imply that the same applications are used on both symbian and its competitors.

If you've used a symbian running nokia mobile, you'ld know that most of the os itself are basically preloaded applications.

It would be logical to deduce that since symbian doesn't need a super processor to run, symbian apps won't be needing one either!

Nokia owns the largest share in the mobile market. Do you think they're stupid as to underpower their flagship? Be rational.

STUPID, 03 Jun 2010I really dont understand people saying Symbian OS is outdat... moreNo there have been xenon flash camera phones from Nokia before. However, that was a while ago and those owners now finally have an upgrade to buy!

OH MY GOD!!!, 03 Jun 2010What the heck of this spec., Symbian OS?? still in Jurassic... moreYou lost most of the people here when you mentioned TouchWiz as a benefit. The specs are great, they really are, but outside of the CPU, GPU and Screen, its not that great.

You see, its made of plastic, which I personally dislike. Next to that, it has no flash. Not even LED, let alone Xenon. Basically, you cannot use your camera half of the time because of that.

Then on to the CPU and GPU spec. Samsung says it does 90 million polygons a second. Thats a LOT. If it is true. You see, this is theoretical capacity with a barebones OS. Real life performance is markedly less usually, in the case of nexus one or the iphone I have seen reports of it being half.

Now, in contrast to those, lets say, slight exaggerations, Nokia doesnt even promote the GPU in this device. Even when it is clearly incredibly strong:

        http://www.blog-n8.fr/actualites/comparatif-des-capacites-graphiques-nokia-n8-vs-omnia-hd-vs-iphone-3gs-vs-apple-ipad-0669/

So even though I actually like the screen on the Galaxy S, I am not very impressed by the rest of the specs.

I would go so far as to say, it is intended for different people altogether, Android lovers who want a nice big SAMOLED screen, which is more of a niche.

In contrast, I think the N8 is the next 5800.

Anyway, OH MY GOD is not the right way to dismiss this phone. Its actually better in many use cases than the Galaxy S.

I really dont understand people saying Symbian OS is outdated juz bec of its spec. You see, Android and WM are power hungry OS which needs a lot of huge spec to compensate the its performance. While SymbianOS is not that power hungry except when you run lots of application at the same time (like 10 applications running at the background while playing music and surfing the web). That surely drains your batt. So SymbianOS doesnt nid Qualcomm or Snapdragon bec ARM itself can do the work. BEC SYMBIAN OS IS NOT A POWER HUNGRY OS! Get it?

Now, correct me if Im wrong. Does N8 will be first of Nokia's Xenon flash tag?

KSR, 03 Jun 2010I am really happy about Nokia after a long time.. Becos ... moreHi There,

Great post, lots of detail, no swearing. Looks like the thread is clean again! :)

Ill try to answer your questions, if you allow me:

                    1. How smooth the high resolution videos can be played with ARM 11 680MHz CPU?? Is GPU really gonna play crucial role in video playback??

The N8 was made to be good at exactly this. The GPU will play a central role in all things graphical, it being the rendering of effects, games, video, you name it. So, it is certain it will play a crucial role. The smoothness you will have to check for yourself when it comes out. I can tell you I find it very smooth, but it is subjective. Try it.

                    2. I had serious issues with N85 as it failed to deliver properly; its highly advertised TV-out by Nokia in those days. Need to see how good N8 behaves with HDMI output; given its slow processor (again subjective)

Good point. I think Nokia have learned from their mistakes. They are not overpromising I feel, and the HDMI works pretty well, even though as already mentioned below the video is not there anymore. The slow processor, is actually not so slow for S^3, and even better, the CPU is currently underclocked, and can be made faster through firmware, if necessary.

                    3. I really don't care if the loud speaker is dual or stereo or whatever.. It should give enough volume and clear sound with bass on par with 5800 XM. Can't jump to conclusion till it is released.

I have NO idea on how it will sound, I just know that the parts used for the sound system in the device are very high standard. Added to that, it has a seperate dolby surround system for HDMI out, but I dont know much about that. Class D is also what I read.

                    4. Need to see how much scratch and smudge resistant are the N8 camera lens, its screen and the body itself.

No worries, according to Damian Dinning, the lens is extremely scratch proof and has been tortured to test this in a device called the tumbler. Smudge proof I dont know, dont think anything is really smudge proof.

                    5. And the most important of all.. how much economic is the S^3 & N8's h/w in terms of power consumption; given the battery's relatively lower capacity.

Like the processor, I think the battery is a not too well understood choice for the N8. Spec indicate 50 (!) hours of playback with that battery.

Like processor speed & phone speed, battery capacity & battery life are not perfectly correlated.

                    Go test one out!

                    As a bonus for everyone:

                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZLVoomj9pQ

A rally game. Not optimized for N8 at all but still runs decently. Later you see bounce evolution, and that runs better on the N8 than on my N900, which has an cortex A8 & 600 mhz.

Now, when optimized, the experience is much better, look at the screenshots in the article below:

                    http://mynokiablog.com/2010/05/28/pics-nokia-n8-spotted-again-at-openmobile-and-showing-off-3d-gaming-with-need-for-speed-shift-and-sims-3/

N8 will be, at the very least, the best gaming phone by far from Nokia ever.

KSR, 03 Jun 2010I am really happy about Nokia after a long time.. Becos ... moreAs the saying goes, actions speak louder than words, but unfortunately the videos I was going to post (http://dailymobile.se/2010/04/30/nokia-n8-tv-out-demo-hdmi/) showing real time usage of the HDMI feature on the Nokia N8 is no longer available. I assure you though, the playback on his HD television was very smooth and yes, the GPU really does make a difference.

Regarding the single mono speaker on the Nokia N8, it has a Class D Amplifier so you can expect loud and clear audio.

Nokia Symbian devices has a long record of being battery consumption friendly. The hardware/energy consumption ratio is maximized for the best performance possible. Of course it all boils down to you as the user and how much you use the device.

I am really happy about Nokia after a long time..

Becos they are now at least TRYING to give their beloved customers what they want exactly..

See N8 ::: An amazing gadget!! (Don't know whether to call it a phone anymore!! It has got ALMOST everything a funky electronic accessory need to have at reasonable price and real capabilities which are more than just a showoff toy .. sorry Apple)

But yes.. it is NOT what can be called THE ULTIMATE, as almost everybody seems to have missed at least one of their sweet feature and keep dreaming to have that as well just to jump into the bandwagon to buy this once the baby is out.

Anyways, it is not possible to satisfy everybody with everything they need in such a little (subjective) bar, Nokia is at least trying their best.

I am suggesting ""MY"" N8 below:

5 or 8MP cam is enough instead of 12MP
Dual LED flash for video rec
Better UI looks out of the box (especially with main menu)
Discard USB port as it is not a TRUE OTG
DIVX/XVID support out of the box
Strong and Clear loud Speaker even if it is a mono (no need of dual speakers)
                                1500mAh battery

I am excited about the following set of features:

                                Exotic looks
                                Big Cam lens
                                Xenon flash
                                GPU
                                AMOLED display
                                Multi touch support
                                720p vid rec

I am little skeptical with these:

                                1. How smooth the high resolution videos can be played with ARM 11 680MHz CPU?? Is GPU really gonna play crucial role in video playback??

                                2. I had serious issues with N85 as it failed to deliver properly; its highly advertised TV-out by Nokia in those days. Need to see how good N8 behaves with HDMI output; given its slow processor (again subjective)

                                3. I really don't care if the loud speaker is dual or stereo or whatever.. It should give enough volume and clear sound with bass on par with 5800 XM. Can't jump to conclusion till it is released.

                                4. Need to see how much scratch and smudge resistant are the N8 camera lens, its screen and the body itself.

                                5. And the most important of all.. how much economic is the S^3 & N8's h/w in terms of power consumption; given the battery's relatively lower capacity.

I also want to suggest Nokia (even though they can't listen and act on somebody's suggestion opinion from GSMArena)

U have got to make few std. devices with gr8 looks at all price ranges. I think N8 is first Nokia's creation I am loving for its looks rather than the feature hype surrounding it. I think these days tech. is changing faster than fashion ... ummm... ok ok .. at least in Mobile industry. There are companies that are coming up with optical zoom, projector and who knows may be even refrigerator as well in future) on mobiles. So cant believe the expiry date of any new technical innovation. But the first thing that comes is the looks of ur gadget which wouldn't be out dated so fast as technology.

Just see Sammy and their marketing strategy. In India (where I live), until few months back, people seldom believed any mobile company other than Nokia. For them Nokia == Mobile phone. But now Samsung have done magic with their marketing capabilities and Corby!! Yes, even though Corby scores less in terms of performance when compared to the other mobiles around.. the looks have made brand Corby a big success. Samsung then launched variants in Corby and tasted profits. So just hoping Nokia takes this (handset looks) seriously and work it out.

And one more thing, they just need to leave the obsession with their very own Symbian and think out-of-the-box. Either make the UI trendy or bow before Andriod to accept it (latter isn't a good alternative in my opinion).
