As it stands, the headphones have to be pushed in fairly hard for them to work correctly and given the fact I used the same amount of force to insert the 5800xm headphones led me and others to believe that the N8's headphones were faulty. Until that is, it was found to be necessary to use more force than is normally required when inserting headphones.

    Thanks for the input though.

    All the best.

Ray, come on, you should know better. That's not a fix; That's actually the proper way of inserting it; all the way in.
Of course the headset won't work when it's only half way in.

First you need to put the pin properly, cos there are two grids to catch the 3.5mm audio jet(which means there should be 2 *snaps sounds*)when you plug in,because it can stop the music when you unplug your headphone and better voice transmission to the phone. So,try those again or ask the phone store, they might be able to show you, moreover,I saw some guys like you juz didn't put properly and juz complaining. Juz helping you guys,cheers...
P.S-juz put the headphone pin to the phone properly, there should be two*same snap sounds*

N8, 11 May 2011@Ray Do you know why the headphones that came in the box do... more The headphone issue is well known about, so you're not alone.
When I first tried mine out the control buttons wouldn't work so I just reverted to using the ones that came with my old Nokia 5800XM.
However, I did find a fix and that is to push the headphones hard and quick until you hear the " snap ". That should get them working properly. Also, make sure Headphones are set as default by going to Settings > Phone > Accessories > and long press on Headphones until a pop-up appears which says set as default and tap on that.

                  All the best.

Regretted on its OS where Symbian is still slow and primitive. Nokia is stagnant...I have now switch to Samsung for good. LCD Screen is Brilliant and its capacitive ouh screen is responsive too!

                      my n8 died yesterday...

i was getting a lot of memory full errors on start up and i was lika having to rebbot the device 10 times a day bcs it can run anything. i installed netquin to see the apps running and even when nothing is open, running opera or a video would give me memory full error damn those 256mb! so i was sincing it last friday on ovi suite and it had an error i sucessfully unplugged the device, and it wouldnt do anything, so i rebooted, and the phone starts until it should get to the point to ask for the lock code, but its just the homescreen that is frozen shows time and date, but it cant do anything, this happened before, but if i woudl leave it, it would then ask for lock code and then say "memory full" (doesnt the ram clean itself after a reboot?) so my phone is dead..in addition to having the purple screen defect...
so my baby is going back to the carrier for an exchange of handset. wil elop killing symbian i have decided to go with android. i have a google acc with all of it integrated: youtube books maps etc and well im jumping on the bandwagon. ill take it to the carrier..theyll send it to the NCC so i can back my data, wait a bit, tell them that the screen is defective (i may even reconsider waiting), refresh my contrat to get the galaxy ace for free and ask for them to exchange my n8 for the sgs2 which will come in july (and its also the time i can renew my contract) the difference will only be like 50 euros... goodbye nokia! it was great, i had 500 apps installed most of them java 240*320 res less than 50kb in size.. im depressed by the lack of updates and high quality apps that symbian has, and add that the installation errors, the lags, and errors, yeah the camera is great, so is the hdmi and usbotg but sammy will offer that too..so until nokia makes a new n95 worth phone i will look to other manufacturers...

qwerty, 11 May 2011Do you know is it possible to change panels of nokia N8?@qwerty.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by " panels ", so I'll assume you mean the aluminium ( aluminum if you're from the U.S.A. ) case. The answer is to visit a Nokia Care Centre and ask them, but the cost of that service would be prohibitive.
There isn't any third party solution to changing the case, as doing so would involve taking it apart and therefore invalidating the warranty.
