Carmencita, 10 May 2011I have a N8 for 1 mounth and the call register is only for ... more Goto Applications > Tools and press Log. There are two tabs at the top of the screen. The second one will display a full log of all activity including Wi-Fi connections and GPRS connections. Those will take up log space, hence you only seeing the last 12 hours for calls. As far as I know there isn't a fix for that, other than to turn off data conections when not needed. It is generally considered that the log on the N8 is pretty poor and in need of improvement.

If that were true, then all N8's would have the purple defect.
As it stands only some have the defect. Mine certainly doesn't.
Also, why would Samsung need to sabotage Nokia when the Galaxy S has outsold the N8 anyway, and Nokia are not really giving any serious competition to Samsungs market share in the smart phone industry?

Nokia Expert, 09 May 2011@ Ray Than answer this: How come the users of Galaxy ... more Nokia Expert wrote

              " Than answer this:

How come the users of Galaxy s, iPhone 4, C6-01, E7, Xperia X10 and many other phones have their screen brightness at maximum? "

The iPhone4 and Xperia X10 do not have AMOLED displays. The C6-01 and the E7 have the same displays and OS as the N8, so by default the brightness control is set to automatic and the light sensor cannot be disabled from within the OS, but can be disabled via the Brightness control app.
The Galaxy S has an AMOLED screen, and by default the brightness control is set to automatic. However, the OS does allow for the light sensor to be disabled if one wishes.
Now, the nature of AMOLED screens dictates that they already have a shorter life span than an LCD screen. So back to my original statement of " use the app with caution ". I did not tell people not to use the app at all, but with caution as setting the screens brightness at a high level for extended periods can reduce the life span of the display.

              All the best.

                  I will Tell U about Nokia N900
Firstly, this is the most powerful device. No
                  doubt...

Secondly, I myself used to have 5800 earlier and
when I saw N900 first time it was weird for me,
as its functionality is totally different than mobiles we have used by now. As the concept of working is different. Things like touching the non active area will hide the active/visible area etc...

I heavily depend on it and is very helpful whether its business or entertainment.

Business: Skype Video Calling(awesome), webbrowsing(you can even carry out bank transactions in its browser) etc..

Entertainment: I watch movies on it just need to dump the whole movie, no conversion required, Music(Very good quality), can access Facebook(see videos and even chat on its browsers), play PalmPre 3D games etc...

Other plus point is USB charging which is generally missing in lot of Nokias.
It will work only 18 hours of its back up if you are using all the widgets activated.
Disable them and you can easily get 2-3 days of backup in normal use.

Now, being higly techie, I have installed Android in it too and love to use Android Applications and 3D games which can be installed on SD card without effecting your main OS. Will be soon deploying Meegoo too.

The best feature of all: running multiple programs simultaneously... which cannot be carried out on Android/Iphone devices because of its Linux powered OS feels like mini-computer though many users are using this term, you actually feel it as its very helpful for your needs/requirements thats why they say...

I change so many devices but this is the only device that I'll treasure it, as simply saying, this is the masterpiece.

So, it depends on your interests, for me 5800 and N8 is crap and I don't like it after using it.
                  Thats all for today :)

I have been a Nokia user for over 10 years now but now i belive the company is actually dead.
My Nokia N8 has been giving me problems for the past 3 months and the Nokia customer care have been unable to solve the problem. The service and product (the phone) are absolutely useless. Please dont ever buy a nokia product. The company is OVER.

Nokia did everything to attend and address that purple tint issue on their Care centers. No other manufacturers would even care do that. But nothing more can be done about that since the fault is theirs anymore. Let's just wait Nokia file a lawsuit against Samsung just like Apple did. Samsung is the most unoriginal and cunning mobile phone company there is, They love to copy other companies' ideas, implement them on their products and take all the credits on them just like how they copy iPhone's design to their Galaxy series, iOS interface to their TouchWiz, and Android is not even their own OS. Yet they get all the credits for producing the deemed, "best smartphone of the year," Samsung Galaxy S II. They are a dirty player. I would never put my trust on Samsung.

personally i have seen both the n8 the one with purple tint and the one without.

to me the one without purple tint is the brightest screen....and the videos are crystal clear.

the one with purple tint is dull in brightness and also the videos show the dark areas with purple pixels.

there is no point in purchasing n8 now...better to wait until they release the new batch with rectified screens......

i would like to wait for such a beautiful mobile....

[deleted post]Are you suggesting that we should let Nokia get away with this and just hide the defect and move on? Hiding the defect and making it less noticeable is not the same as fixing the defect.

Getting the defect eliminated is Nokia's job. Nokia should start supplying the NCCs with defect free screens but sadly, they are not doing that. It has been 5 months since the news of this defect broke out and Nokia admitted the defect but there is still no fix to it. Nokia's first reaction to this issue was denial and they even banned the person who broke this news out for a few days on Nokia's official help forums.

The first person who broke this issue and brought it into the blogosphere has now moved on to a Galaxy S2. He went through a total of 10 N8 in less than 3 months and each one of them have the purple defect.

Nokia should be held accountable for this and the defect should be fixed and not hidden.

It is far from full brightness and there is no way the screen will be burned. Even at 75 or 80% of screen brightness still manages to hide the majority of the purple tint...
So, there is absolutely no risk to disable the light sensor, BECAUSE you don't have to put it on maximum level to hide out the tint.
Just adjust the brightness level 4 (80%) and it will hide the purple tint, + the screen will look a little more crisp...
